Wahey! Afternoon all!
Well, simply put i've been taken absent from Eve by one of those evil cases of smittenness. However, i'm secretly trying to work my way back into the depth of nerdism and spaceships.
So, in essence, im trying to figure out what the fudge has happened over the past 4-5 months, and piece together all the changes, whines, nerfs, emos, and in essence, a TLDR of Eve.
Anyone fancy the task?!
(And no, I am actually being serious. And yes, I am actually being lazy).

All you really need to know is that everything is ruined forever because of items that can only be bought with real cash.
Whenever someone tells you these items can also be bought without real cash you are advised to put your fingers in your ears and begin screaming insults at them.

I can sum it up quickly if you'll let me paraphrase from the Forrest Gump movie. CCP has decided Eve players is as Eve players do.

FW hasnt been touched, CSM still anemic, ****e to buy for real money (if the free ones arnt good enough) um... 0.0 still sucks, empire is still boring and i think thats everything

Edited by: Magnus Veyr on 04/08/2011 12:05:39 Game wise nothing has changed (which is kinda the point of many of us raging, there should have been changes), the UI has more issues than before though. We got Incarna which boils down to the following:
- more lag when docked with incarna activated (many players report having issues with multiple accounts and overheating vidcards) - incarna itself being useless as it's just 1 room with WASD control predating Zork - loss of easy access to normal features like "open cargo hold" etc when docked - no more ship spinning
Then we get the NEX store where MT does not stand for micro transactions, CCP opted for the Macro version instead. The problem is that it's poorly implemented (per usual) with stuff no one wants for prices that are silly. More importantly; the fact that they stated not too long ago we wouldn't have a MT thing in EVE (and here it is) we don't exactly trust CCP when they promise us that there won't be any pay2win stuff coming up.
In general the game is still in it's ****ty state but now we have barbie dolls and can buy some crappy clothing nonsense for way too much money. There's a general feeling of "CCP has left us to rot in favour of WOD/DUST and now they're even trying to rip us off some more with the MT crap", many older players lost their trust in CCP to do "the right thing" and feel that they're being wilfully ignored in favour of a new breed of customers. Whether this is actually true is difficult to tell but perception is reality and as usual CCP sucks at communication.
TL;DR Game is still the exact same but now you can see your female alt char in full glory (if only the graphics weren't so ****ty).

Anyone fancy the task?!
(And no, I am actually being serious. And yes, I am actually being lazy).
1) Incarna a bit of a disappointment.
a) CQ is not an option from Hangar view as was promised, but is default. CQ also fries some peoples' computers. (A bit later we are offered the ability to opt out of CQ, but instead of opting out back into Hangar view, we have a .jpg of a door - hint hint.) Net loss of functionality = nerdrage.
That alone might not have been that big of a deal, we've had problematic expansions before, but then we had:-
b) Cash shop, bafflingly turns out to not follow the principles of what most people understand by "MT" - i.e. instead of containing lots of affordable bits and pieces that people can buy and shot support for CCP, it has ridiculously expensive (and rather unimaginative) offerings, including an item that costs the rl equivalent of $70. This is excused in a testy devblog as being some sort of elite showoff thing, and likened to $1,000 dollar jeans.
People start to wonder "wtf are CCP smoking (or rather putting up their noses, and can I have some)?" But again, the two above problems might have been get-overable, but then hot on their heels, came this:-
2) a) A Newsletter from May was leaked which showed CCP enthusiastically planning on going beyond vanity items in the cash shop, when they'd promised they wouldn't do that. Rumblings of discontent start, a GM tries to make a conciliatory post, asking for calm and reasoned discussion. A Threadnaught starts, demanding from CCP a clear statement that they won't be going beyond vanity items in the cash shop. Question is not answered. Threadnaught rumbles on.
b) In the middle of this, an email from Hilmar, CEO of CCP, is leaked showing, a) contempt for playerbase (paraphrased: "we will watch what they do, not what they say") and b) cheesy satisfaction with having sold 50 of the aforesaid $70 dollar items.
Threadnaught becomes Threadtitan. Lots of ragequitting. Mini threadnaught dedicated to ragequitters reaches 5,000-odd quitters. Several other mini threadnaughts bemoaning what's going on (with CCP being stoutly defended by fanbois, some even buying into the $70 dollar items).
CCP by now presumably sweating at least a little bit, calls an emergency meeting in Iceland with the CSM, CSM flown over armed with some of the more cogent posts from the forums. Then:-
3) After three days bashing it out, both CCP and CSM come up with a joint statement. CCP states that they have no plans for going beyond vanity goods. CSM is satisfied they mean it. Some sort of resolution is promised re. ship spinning, but it's not clear what it is or when it will be implemented, except we know that at some point it will be gone forever.
4) Rumblings of discontent continue on the forums due to the ambiguity of "no plans for now" (after all that's what they said before, and we might have remained blissfully ignorant that they were in fact planning non-vanity MT but for the leaked Newsletter) and other strange little fudges in the joint statements, and still-unanswered questions; but now the community is divided between people who want to keep the issues alive, and those who want to carry on business as usual.
Basically, the bulk of the game is still the same (mostly playable, somewhat buggy and unbalanced); the people who are upset are upset about what might happen, and the fanbois are pointing out that what might happen isn't actually happening at the moment.

TLDR;
MT = moar tears. People raged @ CCP's proposal to put MT in the game beyond cosmetic items. Some people raged at the cosmetic MT store that was introduced. CCP said they dont "plan" on "gold ammo" so look for it soonÖ. CQ is resource intensive so there were many people who can no longer multibox, some computers died from overheating. Others were upset with the "lack of content" of Incarna. You can turn CQ off for now. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

True enough, but they'd be able to get away with far more of it (and might even avoid some of it) if they managed to solve that communication problem. ùùù ôWe want to try this thing called micro-transactions, but we don't know what it is. The undock and shoot people bit works well right now, in a small gang context at least. Look out for hot drops.

Exactly.
Ship spinning was replaced by Door Staring. Also, "Double Click Anywhere in Station to Open Cargo" was removed. And a couple people bought Monocles.

Community tl;dr
- CCP: wanted to charge 3rd party developers $100 for the license. - Players: RAGE!!! - CCP: removed ship spinning, released one computer breaking/GPU melting room, forced many players to look at The DoorÖ, pushed in NeX MT store with $70 monocle,... - Players: RAGE!!! - Internal newsletter leak, "Fearless LeakÖ" happened at the same time - Players: Forget about rage... RIOTS!!! Burn Jita, Amar, Dodixie, Rens, shiptoast on forums and everywhere else on the Internet - Leaked Hilmar's e-mail to CCP employees - Players: MORE RIOTS!!! and yeah... RAGE!!! - CCP called CSM on emergency meeting and rage (mostly) settled down
In-game political landscape tl;dr
- IT imploded (internal drama). Some of their corps created a new alliance Raiden. - Drone Russians lead by White Noise and friends (DRF) + Raiden + NC. + PL invaded Geminate - NC say "meh..." - DRF and friends attacked Vale (Rage space) - NC: "We are going to destro....meh..." - AAA + others started to attack old WN space - DRF and friends invaded Majesta's part of Vale - NC: "We are waiting in Tribute" - DRF and friends launched attack on Tribute and Tenal - NC: "Where's that implode button?" - NC failscaded, WI. merged with Goons, R.A.G.E. disbanded, Majesta disbanded, Mostly Harmless imploded, Razor went to Querious (or at least tried), Morsus Mihi and Brick Squad went to Delve
How's that for a tl;dr?
