Hey gang,
So I am on a tight budget; and my last PC finally got taken out to pasture. I would really this time like to experience EVE on the high graphics settings for once. I do not multi-client and have no desire to. Excuse me for being a little naive here; but I could really use some help on what I have in my shopping cart so far since my last build was in 2007. Thanks for taking the time to read through this. I can maybe drop another 100 bucks or so into it to make some more tweaks. Arrrghh this is way OCD :)

Why ? There's nothing inherently wrong with his build. Not necessarily optimal, but not bad either (at least compared to some half-assed attempts at so-called "budget" PCs I've seen in the past couple of weeks, it's downright good).

I may be an elitist prick regarding SOME particular things (gameplay and game economy issues mainly), but when it comes down to PC building I'm a penny-pinching minimalist with a taste for budget/mid-range builds. If you would have bothered to actually read the linked thread you might have noticed that.

The post graphics card in the op is extreme overkill. I have a HD 4830 512mb and I can run two clients in two different monitors easily. I think any brand video card in the $50 range sold today would easily work. Two years ago the card I have cost $90 (Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16)I am sure you can save $50 finding another graphics card

Oh, and do not install the drivers that come with the card, just get the latest one from the chip manufacturer.

The Power unit may be overkilling. I would double check it, I don't think you need 520W. Eve does not rely on the graphics card for its work, so it will not be stepping up the watts.

I have an interest in this topic as I am looking for a computer option for my parents home that I can use when I visit and take care of their animals.
But - this is the motherboard you really want: its just $35 more than your spec - but look what it gives you! One - its full size. You might need a bigger case for it than your spec, but building a full size atx is much more easier than a micro case. Its fits more goodies, or the goodies are spread out father apart. Video card fans easily block a slot unless you have a slim card meant media streaming. (Slim one could work for Eve too). It has no video card, but you are buying one anyway;

Comparison of my suggestions (in ATX and Micro ATX) and your spec: . You get more slots, and USB 3.0! The micro atx has an onboard video card because one would be insane to try to use all the slots and install a video card. The video card might be able to do dual monitor - talk to gigabyte about that. The upgrades also give you an optical audio built in - so you can run nice audio from movies from the pc. If you have estata external drives, just get a sata to estata card for the atx board. USB 3.0 is much, much better than esata because you can actually bend the cable in the direction you want it.
So - if you save money on the video card, you can upgrade your motherboard and case to full atx, and have a much more comfortable pc to build and maintain, which will have better non-Eve functions. It will be harder to upgrade a motherboard than a video card. Sometimes a motherboard upgrade will require a whole new window reinstall (maybe not for Win 7 - I only have Win XP).
Antec Cases You can get a full atx case for $20 more and its built buy the same supplier as your spec (it almost has to be they look almost exactly the same with almost identical interior parts), except the antec cases mount the power supply on the bottom. I have an Antec 300, and its a charm. Comes with 2 fans installed, so you won't need the fan or connector in your spec - saves $15 right there. It has a top mounted fan, be just be aware. But air flows in from the front and side (cover it with tape to increase airflow from the top) and fans draw it out the back, and the top fan draws air across the motherboard also. If that is not enough, you can mount two fans in front of the Antec 300.

Do not go with Benny's recommendation when it comes to video cards. The 6790 is better than what he's recommending, unless you really have little to spend, otherwise you're wasting your money.
