Everybody knows Dust 514 is coming and that people will be buying "gold" items in it. But in Eve there aren't going to be any game changing "gold" items in the near future.
Here lies the problem when Eve and Dust become one universe.(one war)
If planetary control and/or Sov control lies within the taking of planets. Won't all the rich people in eve be able to fund Gold plated armies to take what they want, control sov, monoplolize markets? This will be making super sov holding coalitions and alliances that much harder to compete with.
Please CCP clarify if I'm wrong, but even though "gold" items won't be in Eve, a universe containing "gold" items that messes with Eve mechanics will still break the game.

True, and I am sure some enterprising and affluent person(s) will entertain notions of or even dabble in just that, but the ability to actually conquer space based solely or more predominantly on controlling planets instead of fleets is probably pretty far fetched based on their relatively minimal worth and over abundance in 0.0 space.
If plasma planets were the only source of crystals maybe... but the cat is out of the bag on planetary goo, so it is highly unlikely CCP will change compositions now.

According to the information we have so far, items that are originally for sale for cash only will still end up resold for ISK on the secondary player market... thus becoming available for purchase by those that are ISK rich but cash poor.

I share the OPs concern to a certain degree. However I'm not that worried because I'm pretty sure Dust will flopp badly. At best people will play it for a few months and then throw it away once the next FOTM console shooter is puked out onto the market.
CCP expects a lot from Dust but then again they also thought dressdolls in space would be great so meh.
I wouldn't worry. Worst case you unsub for 3 months until Dust has blown over.

Because both ISS and ASCN proved that being rich guarantees world dominance (hint: it doesn't).
You better stop using that crystal ball before you hurt yourself. ----------

Edited by: Valari Nala Zena on 05/08/2011 14:29:07 People who don't want to spend real money will spend isk on "gold items" and let other spend the real money.
People who think the isk payout is enough to warrant spending real money for it will keep the supply for plex balanced isk price wise.
So no, in the end CCP will have some moaning and whining but thats it.
Eventually people will use their isk to buy plex and extend their account. In return other people will keep buying more plex with real money because the demand makes the isk return for selling plex interesting.

How can rich people not do that now by purchasing tons of plex and sellig it, providing them and their corp with nearly unlimited isk?
I don't see this as being different at all. People can already do that if they shell out the RL cash.

Edit: And if by 'gold' items you mean more powerful, my understanding is the EvE ones will be skins only.
His concern is that while "gold" items will not exist in EVE, they will exist in DUST and DUST will have a direct affect on SOV in EVE.
However:
1: Gold items mean useful/powerful items not available at any point for purchase with in game currency, (only cash). This will not be the case.
2: DUST will not be the only method of effecting SOV, nor even the primary method. Indications are that DUST players would tend to be used if you wish to keep existing infrastructure intact, but not necessary if you simply want to burn it to the ground.
As in all things, time will tell.

Actually, you're just speculating by saying that's what people will be doing in Dust...

I was not aware DUST would have any impact on eve. I thought it was a totally separate project. Seems I've got some reading to do, thanks.
