I know this has been suggested a longer time ago but I would like to bring this up again as I think It will increase the fun watching combat. I would like to see:
1. Shots at ships beeing absorbed by the shields with a flickering of the shield at the position where the shot landed.
2. If shot goes through shield to armor there should be a visible deflection of the shot by the armor with some debris created from the destroyed armor plates. There should be visible damage to the ship surface which will fade with the armor getting repaired.
3. The shot should go into the ship hull or through the ship with additional smaller explosions when the hull gets damaged. Just imagine your laser just burning straight through the rat ship leaving a big burning hole.
4. Destroyed wrecks models should be by the original ship model so the wreck locks somehow the the undestroyed ship or a part of it.
5. Shots should not hit the same spot on enemy ships and to be honest, the current impact animation of most weapons just look boring and cheap.
6. I hope rockets will get the same love in winter expansion 2011 as gun turrets got with incarna.

I'd rather my Eve still be remotely playable when 500-1000 people are on grid with me. Sarcasm - Because i'm too far away to strangle you. |

i suggested a missed animation for projectile/lazer shots so not all fired is a hit animation looks like ignored in the past but, still hope for it.

In Jita there is never a time when 100% of local is shooting at each other, or deploying max drones. Sarcasm - Because i'm too far away to strangle you. |

Visual effects don't have to be server side. They don't have impact on gameplay and therefore no impact on network traffic. When the effects are not synchronized between the player game clients, you will see the hits not at the same position on ships as other players, but that's not a problem I think.
If you have a weak client you can just disable those effects just like you can disable turret effects already.
I would really like to know what CPP thinks or plans about combat effects in the future. I think I'm not alone when I say that they need a rahter huge polish pass. The new turrets were the first step. I hope they don't spend too much development resources for the "walk in station" part of the game.

The least of what is wrong with Eve is how it looks. Sarcasm - Because i'm too far away to strangle you. |

Yes it would be cool however, seeing as how theres a lot of broken features and fixes that need implementing Id much rather they spent several years of man hours improving gameplay rather than improving the visuals that only serve to crash computers and make large scale battles impossible for anyone not running a supercomputer with 1gig fibre optic broadband.

Balance ships and weapons. Fix bugs. Then add new content.

What he said. To those who fear lag in big battles: Just turn the effects off. I agree on fixing other stuff first though.

would be cool if this was an option like the advanced camera menu option. would make making combat videos awesome if you have the computational horse power to keep track of it. or add this to the video replay thing from the thread about the eve combat recorder, so even if there are hundreds or thousands of people on the field you could chug through it at your own pace.

I'm not sure I like the idea.. but it's interesting to think about. What I find ironic about repair is that in a game where everything has a timer and takes real time, repairs are instantaneous. Why do they not take at least as long as it would to build an equivalent percentage of that ship and modules lol.

Well if you have shield damage, the shield booster doesnt "repair" but reinforce the shield. which isnt a complex thing to do. if you have armor damage, the armor gets reinforced too, by nano particles. (the repairer converts energy to mass) the structure of armor isnt a complex thing either. When you have structure damage, the hull repper has alot more work to do, to reconstruct the complex materials, modules etc. And yes, it still does this work quite fast, compared to the whole construction time for the ship. but it IS significantly slower then the other active reppers.
But i think this thought leads to nowhere, cause EvE isnt meant to be realistic (for the sake of gameplay) in the first place, and there are many other aspects which reflect this alot more.
edit: i just reread your post and am not sure if you meant the active reppers at all you were talking about the repair feature in stations i guess? well... good point, there could be at least a timer to wait till the ship gets overhauled, but then again...i think it could be an annoyance for some ppl too.

The game designers, graphic designers and programmers of CCP should be able to work in parallel. So while one team fixes bugs or balance problems, another team can work on new graphics and effects. Of course a stable well balanced game is always the highest priority.
