Edited by: Barbelo Valentinian on 05/08/2011 20:16:37 Following on from the Sentry drone thread, somebody mentioned some Ishtar pilots use them, but in a different way from you might use them with a Domi.
That set me off wondering about the Ishtar in general. I just recently skilled up for the little beauty - anybody care to share tips and tricks? PvE/PvP, solo, small gang, anything really.
I guess this subject partly crosses over into Ships and Modules (fitting), but the Sentry drone thread here is the one that got me wondering about the subject, so ... *****

the only way it is effective is with golden drones from aurum shop and HAC 5... so buy some SP boosters.

I use mine for pve. First thing I noticed when I skilled for it was the tight pg/cpu it has. In my current l4 setup I'm at about 98% pg and 96% cpu, with an empty high. The tank is solid, especially if you need kin/therm resist.
As far as sentries, I can't add much really, don't use them. Tried them when I was back in my Domi and wasn't too impressed, probably because I've got T2 Ogs tho . I'd imagine though that managing them would be a lot easier with a mobile ship like a hac.

Great Solo pvp ship, I fit mine up with speed n the lows and shield , mwd, long point, and medium cap booster in mids, Nuets n autocannons in highs, Get around 3k speed. Just launch drones and set orbit to about 19km target . Throw on a 30km point if u want and set orbit to about 24km.

But what exactly can you engage in this setup? I feel as if a really good BC such as a cane, drake, or harby would abo****ely melt you. I just can see the advantages of flying this ship over flying the Myrm.
Can you post your fit?
thanks. :D

The advantage is pretty obvious, speed.
Being twice as fast, in fact faster than all the battlecruiser hulls and the large majority of standard cruiser fittings means you arent always gonna die 20 seconds after local spikes.
HACs arent meant to go toe-to-toe with battlecruisers, in order to do that well they require recon support to soften and control the targets.

Then what are some targets that Ishtars can go after? I find that people have been flying BCs more than anything else anymore. HACs arent meant to go toe-to-toe with battlecruisers, in order to do that well they require recon support to soften and control the targets.

Most of the folks I know that fly the Ishtar do so for PvE in nulsec. Warp into a sanctum or plex, pull aggro, speed tank the dps, then drop sentries. So long as you stay closer to the spawns than your sentries, the rats will usually go after you instead of your sentry drones.

Great ship for PVE.
Use 2x sentry dmg rigs and 3x Omnidirectional tracking links/as many fit and watch the Garde IIs rip everything a new one. Has epic resists, especially against Guristas.
The dual repper setup with the appropriate rigs will run most plex's in New Eden. Even if you're in Blood Raider space, merely swapping to Ogre IIs gives you almost as much DPS.
It has more mids than most HACs making it quite viable for PVP. A nano shield Ishtar can still be a versatile addition to a shield fleet.
To make the most of an Ishtar, you need to train Drones Rigging (if using Sentry dmg rigs) at least to 4, and at some point, 5. This is usually the cause for lack of CPU.
Get HAC and Sentry 5, you'll never regret it.
