Its a nice thought but the thing about free markets like the one in Eve is that the participants are not all miners. In fact the only control over prices miners have is production (supply), the prices themselves are dictated by traders like me, the guys who buy resources in bulk at reduced costs through buy orders across larger areas of space and sell them on the market. If miners got together and started selling at higher prices it just strengthens the position of the traders who bulk purchase on buy orders by allowing them to resell resources at higher prices. The dumping of resources has less to do with miners and more to do with everyone else who can't be bothered to haul stuff around and sell it for appropriate prices. In the course of a month I make over a billion ISK simply buy and selling resources, even are the currently reduced margins, thanks to the general lazines of the eve community the buy orders continue to fill up. I often buy resources at 1sk per unit for core resources like Trit and Pyrite, an aspect of the game that has nto changed in 6 years.
If you want to affect prices you have to outright stop mining, affecting the supply and frankly I'm not sure how much that impact would be felt since the reduction in current prices has to do with the reduced demand. Only during expansions when resources become heavily sought after the supply is severly drained do the prices actually rise. To get that effect going on the economy you would have to have a pretty serious impact on supply and while I'm sure their are plenty of community members ready to get into a Miners Union per say, It would take a significantly sizable community to pull that off.
In conclusion I can only say that popping miners is practically a tradition in Eve as is clever miners finding solutions to that problem outside of whining and complaining about the "evil pvp criminals" that are doing it. Its just an aspect of the game you have to accept, Eve is a PvP game and you do not get a pass on it just cause your a miner. Their are no carebear solutions in Eve that cannot be exploited. What miners need to start doing is stop being wussies and start putting up a fight. The Eve PvP community is highly overated and feared unescessarly. For every PvP pilot that knows what he is doing their is a 100 that don't have a freaking clue. Most PvPers at even an inclining of an even fight run and simply appearing threatning is enough of a deterant. Pirates who hunt miners aren't looking for fights, they are looking for easy kills and as such all you have to do as a miner is simply not be an easy kill.
This problem is far easier to solve than most people realize. Treat PvPers like you treat rats and most of your problems will go away.

I have been told there are corps out there that actually organize large ops and keep some cloaked guards near by. if a ship is lost on these ops the corp replaces the ships.
Though the corp does take 50% of the cut. but boosts and hauling is provided by the corp. here we go again! |

But thats kind of the point I'm trying to make about self sufficiency and making your own solutions. I mean why does a mining corp only have miners? Why is that a standard? If you are going to run a proper mining op you have to have a well round group of people all in on the take and a small defense force is usually more than sufficient to deter the average pirates out their. No one warps into a asteroid belt, targets a miner and when he discovers their are 3 stealth bombers bearing down on them sticks around to blow up the miner. I mean people aren't stupid, they reckognize the difference between an easy kill and a high risk situation. It doesnt take that much to keep pirates out of asteroid belts.

problem isn't the trolling
it is expecting EVE to be all cuddly like WoW where you are protected and coddled(oh you hit 85, here's your free epics)
EVE is harsh when you die you lose stuff, in WoW you lose a few gold on repairs... people have been saying organize this/that/the other thing in EVE for ages, and it will never happen...
someminer trys to organize 'price fixing' mission runners under sell them someminer trys to organize a stand against hulkageddon, people still fit their hulks with no tank to maximize yield
you want to be suicide proof mining in high sec? fit something that noone will suicide, like a mining BS(omg it's slower per hour) or mine in low traffic systems, and not be afk, be aligned, be moving, be paranoid ---------------------------------------------------------- WTB Sig must include NOS Domi KILLING Ponies other details to be discussed, EVEmail me for details |

in high sec, it's pointless... you react AFTER the hulk has exploded and you are to slow, you react BEFORE and you are exploded in low/null/wh space it MIGHT work
you are better off tanking your hulks, putting shield links on an orca/BC/CS and adding to the buffer... maybe cross shield logistics drone eachother ---------------------------------------------------------- WTB Sig must include NOS Domi KILLING Ponies other details to be discussed, EVEmail me for details |

Well its a strategy game so every situation is unique and you have to think about that situation and respond appropriatly. What I'm toting here is self sufficiency, self reliance and the use of a little brain power. Its a game, their are strategies. Think up one and try it. Lots of stuff can work to resolve issues like this, the only one that doesn't is coming to the forum and complaining about it. Not to knock the OP, not trying to be rude, but frankly in Eve the only people you can truely rely on are people in your corp, thats why corps are such an intricale part of the game. If you think a dev is going to help you resolve a problem like this, I can tell you with 6+ years experiance its extremly rare. Some things are obviously exploits and griefing and I understand that some action occassionally by the devs is needed to ensure the tactics used are tactics which the game is intended to support. But simply getting poped in a miner is not an exploit or griefing. Its just one of the many activities that is part of the game. Their are pirates, their are anti-pirates and everything in between. Think, plan and execute.

Because most "leet pvpers" want nothing to do with miners, and miners want to delude themselves that they can be in a "PVE Only" corporation, doing "PVE Only" type things (insert "EVE is PVP, there is little/no PVE in the game" stuff here)

You know that, I know that, others know that. The trouble is the afore-mentioned thinking that "mining" and "combat" are diametrically opposed, and shouldn't be done in the same corp.
Granted, yeah, PVP Combat in hisec is usually ****... and there are a huge number of people who want to tell others what to do, regardless of whether or not the others think it's fun... =========================

Its unfortunate but your right of course. The problem is the thinking behind players less so the actual game which is why we get so many posts like this on the forum. The wide acceptance of the idea that a player and a corp can only be one thing is a pendemic in this game.

Give me a break
Hulkegeden is about ganking hulks. It is about a bunch of bored players looking for easy kills and the more tears the better.
There is no moral high ground about it. I have no idea why people try play the (it does lots of good) card.
The bit about about high-sec miners should lose there yield in favor of a tank is laughable as well. 99 % of 0.0 miners are fitted for max yield and have a tank that can deal with the rats.
Dealing with a player is a different story, it is possible. But as this is not about ISK, if they want to kill your hulk you are dead, if you are in the belt.
Say it the way it is, and stop with the games.

Well of course its about ganking hulks. I mean I understand getting blown up in Eve is rarely a pleasant experiance, but blowing stuff up on the other hand is always fun. The remedy for bordome is fun, so if you are bored and blowing up hulks is your fancy have at it!
Its just a presumption that blowing something up like a hulk is an automatic griefest, and I don't think its true. People blow stuff up because thats one of the many things that you do in Eve. You get an idea in your head, formulate a plan, get some friends together and execute your whacky idea. Sometimes its suicide ganking, sometimes its some wierd form of piracy. I for example have an idea of getting 5-6 of my friends together, getting together in stealth bombers and just nuking **** all over the place. I personally think its briliant.. It might work out, we might get dead... but its fun to come up with stuff like that.
I think miners need to get a bit more creative!

Thats just wrong. You can easily warp in, pop a hulk and be gone again with little or no damage even if your guards have lightning reflexes. All you can do is hope you've fitted enough hardeners (at the loss of mining ability) to survive.
Sometimes you get lucky and do survive but you're never lucky enough to operate in the black. If it was possible low sec would be full of miners with their guards.
If you don't believe me you're welcome to come guard me in low sec for 9 or so hours, my usual mining op length. I wont even mine, I'll just harden up as much as possible and be bait.
I can guarantee at least once every 5 minutes there'll be someone trying to pop me and most of the time they'll succeed.
Its not even cost effective to act as bait let alone actually mine.

Sure. But, you have to have somewhere to pod TO. And, you have to replace all that ISK you spent trying to brass it out as a tough guy. Some people never learn.

As you probably noticed you used a "trip" word, which I assume is an unfortunate choice of words. Luckily, the grizzled working-class denizens of an MMO (yeah, right) haven't totally submerged this good idea you have with their blustering about their extensive experience in the labor market. (Callous, to them, is how you politely respond to any post but their own.)
As Pok and many others have said, the right choice of words is "alliance". Since a lot of these naysayers...gee it'll never work posters gank miners for fun, take what they say with a grain of salt. (Pok has plenty of that. He once worked in a salt mine.)
If miners formed a massive alliance, they'd have the fundage to hire guns for warfare and general payback. I can see Hulkaggedon fans will have trouble with this, fear it, and will try to kill this idea using a form of informed logic that is as transparent as several of my favorite nighties.
Get it organized, or continue to be victims.

There is a very simple solution to your problem:
1. Stay aligned to a celestial object or station at 75% speed 2. Pay attention (in other words, don't AFK) 3. When a combat ship warps in close to your mining ship, warp out
You'll have at least a 5-10 second window where you can see the intruder, but he's still coming out of warp and can't target you. It takes you about a second to press the warp button.
YOU are the one with the advantage, not the ganker, unless you deliberately throw that advantage away by not taking these few simple precautions.
It really IS that simple!

Hi! 1. When mining you have to stay within a certain range of the object you are mining, so moving around is not prefferable since it may force you to switch rocks before the current one is finished. 2. This one is true 3. If this would be followed, one would actually spend more time warping around than one would spend mining
Lastly, the person with initiative is ALWAYS the one with the advantage, the ganker is the one with initiative, thus he/she is also at an advantage. There is also something called stealthbombers who would render your tactic completely useless.
Lastly, nothing is simple, EVER. And anyone telling you otherwise is only attempting to get the better of you...

Actually, if you want to insta-warp but stay still, you should group up and keep a web on each other (or web each other just after you have hit align then warp), stay always aligned but not moving.

I would have to say to go beyond creating just 1 corp and create an alliance.
less people and wardec corps attack alliances because it would cost them too much.
I think miners do need a bit of help I mean they are sitting ducks and the covy shields are paper thin...how people gank miners being the easiest of targets and still brag about it and set these event of ganking people who cant fight back is just too much.
might as well make an event about ganking hi-sec NPCs

How fast does a barge go at 75% speed? What is the range of strip miners? How long is the cycle? You have plenty of time to finish at least one cycle on a rock without having to change speed or course!
Oh.... I see!!!! You want to sit still and not sacrifice a little bit of your income to be safe... You deserve to be ganked then... Risk/Reward!

Who said you should mine in busy systems? You can also mine in mission pockets or in exploration sites for added security.

You have plenty of time to take the initiative to warp out. Game mechanics give it to you.
Originally by: Shazi Mavox There is also something called stealthbombers who would render your tactic completely useless.
Stealth bombers are rarely used for suicide ganks, and you still have a second or two to warp out... if you pay attention!
Your arguments reek of you wanting to get maximum profit without risk. People who do that deserve to get ganked!

People are confusing you with Bots, or they simply don't like carebears. I will occasionally kill a miner in highsec....because I can.
