That patch to improve performance of Incarna and solve overheating?
Did it burn out?

They decided to delay patching until you biomassed your characters and stopped your subscription of all of your accounts.
They may agree with you stopping to post on the forums, though.
Either works for me. --------

Just asking because it was scheduled to be deployed weeks and weeks ago then it disappeared with no news whatsoever.
What could be so bad that it was pulled and why was it not just fixed and redeployed?
Other bigger issues found or was it just given lower priority?

I suppose they found out they couldn't fix overheating so they just gave up rather than trying to rewrite the engine

Nothing happened to it. Just the same thing as with all other stuff promised to be fixed... it is promised. And missed. On the other hand may be they sit in their offices day and night trying to fix all things... that's why we have so many dev alts and marketing trolls around. Hmm.

It was CLEARLY stated on the NEWS page (you know the first one to load on www.eveonline.com) that the patch had caused various issues in QA and was pulled from deployment until the TROLL BAIT was worked out.
Reading ftw.

They figured out that the incarna engine is **** and are currently trying to decide if they want to rebuild it... again... before they can implement the promised optimisations. Or so it would seem.

The "Incarna engine" is just a testbed for the twilight mmo. They don't care about making it work right in EVE.

But Hilmar is still working on it right? Don't want those second rate kids working on it, I want the REAL Hilmar.

Learn to cool your computer. Any good build should be able to run indefinitely under full stress without breaking dangerous temp thresholds. One of the first things I do with a new build is benchmark exactly that.

You run your new builds indefinitely to make sure they don't break? Didn't think it was possible to benchmark something that was never ending, or am I just reading it wrong?

I run them until the temperature stabilizes. The rise in temperature is not never-ending.

Goodie for you. I don't think users should ever have to test a new release to ensure it won't torch their hardware. I expect that a new build may run really badly on existing hardware, and may necessitate a hardware upgrade. I would not expect that a new release would torch hardware. When in the name of God have you ever heard about a new release causing hardware to torch? Never before. Only in EvE. It's pathetic.

Ah I see.
My comp overheats like a mofo tbh, but that's more to do with the ambient furnace-like-even-with-windows-open temperature of my home rather than anything technical, hopefully in winter it will be better.

I have CQ disabled anyway though. Even though my pc doesn't overheat while running it, I don't have air conditioning and sometimes it can be ~30 degree C outside, which causes the fans to constantly spin fast to prevent it from overheating, turning my pc into a pretty effective heater...which I don't really need it to be while afking/alt-tabbing in a station.

Yup... but NVIDIA sux anyway! They've had numerous lawsuits over this not to mention a class action lawsuit in the U.S. over faulty chips. Also, NVIDIA/HP knew these chips were bad yet sold them anyway.
So... even though some crispy GPUs might have been directly related to Incarna, you also might consider that some of the crispy critters as a result of crappy cards with NVIDIA components.
P.S. Oh, where the hell is the yellow text?

The patch is ready but is being delayed awaiting a shiny new feature of NeX via which future patches can be purchased with AURUM :) This way patches will still be 'free' since plex can be purchased with isk and then converted into aurum requiring no real money whatsoever!!

Hooray for a month without any updates on this.
Not to mention the other three CQs, finishing the one we currently have, and Ship Spinning v2.
Glad to see CCP took it to heart when the CSM told them they need better communication with the playerbase.

Chips can generate heat faster than any heatsink can sink it. It's basic thermodynamics.
In a perfect world, chip makers would have their chips automatically slow down or stop when they get too hot. Maxim and Natsemi can do it, why can't nVidia?

What you just said made literally no sense. What law of thermodynamics are you referring to?

It's not just about heat, it's about ****ty coding. My I7 machine with dual 5870s sits around 30fps... I can run pretty much any other game, including crysis2, COD, all the modern stuff at max at a silky vsync'ed 60fps.
Should a single room with a poorly rendered character model be more intensive than those games? Forget building a good computer mate, sell your computer and go buy a clue.
