Hey guys
This is more or less a question on the Depletion system in PI.
Is there a way to keep the mining yield at a (lower, but) steady rate? And if so can I achieve this by: - mining 1-3 days then pausing 1-3 days - mining with long time settings (so that not so much stuff/hour is getting mined) - using less extractors
Did you make any good experience with that?

There are too many factors to give a blanket answer.
Where are you extracting? What are you extracting? How "hot" is the spot? How long is the abundance bar? How many are extracting on the planet?
The longer the cycle, the less you take, and the more quickly the planet should regenerate.
I also have seen that different materials seem to have different extraction curves. Some seem to peak early but deplete fast, while others don't peak as high, but are more level.

Planets regenerate at a set rate.
To answer the OP, longer extraction time means the hotspot will essentially last longer. Set the program for a few days, and you'll generally be fine. If nothing else, at least make sure you're on the 30 minute cycles, not 15.

Correct, regeneration is fixed. It would have been better to say the quicker the level would return to its original level.
So is there a big difference between extracting at 1d 45m on 15 increments and 1d 1h on 30 minute increments for depletion and extraction? I have not played around with the 15 minutes total cycle difference to see how that would effect total yield and depletion.

I had a setup using the 15 minute cycles, and couldn't keep my factories filled. I bumped the program up to a 36 hour program, which had 30 minute cycles, and everything evened out just fine. Even had some extra most days if I ever let it lapse. It seems to me that unless you get a really good planet all to yourself, it's always best to go with 30 minute cycles.
Remember you can always stop and restart the program early with no penalty. I went with 36 hours because I generally reset the program once a day, but the extra 12 hours gave me some leeway in case I logged in later than usual.

As an experiment I set up a high sec ice planet, 23 hour cycles, mining 2 R0 types and let it run 33 days without moving the extractor heads. The extraction was down to 26% and 29% (of the day one rate) for the two R0's by the end. The dropoff was getting quite slow, regeneration almost keeping up, by the end.
