I'm fitting out an old battlecruiser as a lowsec baitship. I'm planning on fitting it as a neut/tackle ships with ECM drones to best incapacitate the would-be pirate while my off-grid backup arrives. A few questions:
1) Is 65-70k EHP sufficient for this job?
2) Should I use a MWD, or AB? The goal is to be able to pace a scrammed, webbed, neuted cruiser that is trying to escape. Assuming he can get me equally tackled, am I right in thinking the AB is a better bet since I might be scrammed?
3) Is this just an insane idea? |

1) It depends on how far away your off grid help is and how many people are attacking you. In most scenarios it will be more than sufficient, even if you "help" is off D-Scan range, assuming 1-2 aggressors in BCs.
2) AB is better if you can assume that you will be close enough to also Scram/Web the target. However if you are being Kited...the target may just bugger off when he sees another ship landing, or on D-Scan...its a risk. I say you go for the AB.
3) This is a perfectly sane idea and done all the time. Just be careful how you use it. There are a lot of fleets out there that will bait your bait ship and jump in once your "help" is on grid and tackled along with your bait ship...have lots of scouts.
Enjoy being a D-Bag in space :)

70k EHP is not a lot for a baitship, but ships that can get more than that tend to be very recognizable as bait. Is it enough if your friends are offgrid? Yes, but you're not going to get many takers if your gang is on d-scan.

Just for the love of God don't use drakes or arazus. Everyone knows what a lone one of those with friends in local means.

A quick search on Battleclinic reveals a 102k EHP Bait 'Cane. Hope that helped.

I've got a few ideas on how to look less bait-like. I got the idea for this while using a BC for lowsec exploration in my early days and dying to a Loki. I'm thinking this ship plus one or two other cheap builds can easily take on the solo T3s and battlecruisers that are the primary nuisance in our part of lowsec.
We'll be testing some ideas this weekend on the best way to get backup into the fight quickly.

The same goes for Prophecies and Mallers etc. Check out which ships are normally used for bait and consider whether choosing obvious bait ships are too limiting to your target selection.

Navy Augurors can work pretty well as bait - they tank like Mallers but most people don't know that and just go "lol, low-tier faction cruiser, shiny killmail, wheeeee!" Signature removed. |

What makes a good bait ship is it's pilot not the ship.
That said, bait Rokh is the best bait.

If you are feeling very brave fit up a tempest with buffer armour tank double point web mwd and cap booster highs 800mm t2 acs 1 heavy nuet 1 cyno.
Ive used this and similar ships in low sec and always find 1 or 2 idiots who try killing you and land within 10k as soon as they fire web scram nuet and they're dead as have station guns on them aswell.
