Some of my clan have recently moved to eve and I'm looking for some advice.
3 of us have rolled Amarr, 2 have rolled Caldari. (I am Amarr 3 days played)
I hear Amarr are good fleet ships (What numbers make a fleet?) and I've been reading Minmatar make good small gang/solo ships. Due to different play times, the majority of time I will be solo/duo/3 man
Is it worth re rolling Minmatar? I like the idea of having a fast ship to dictate orbit range and really like the idea of playing a cloaked ship to scout/bomb along side my team mates. (I understand the Amarr Purifier is good)
Should I stick to Amarr and cross train? Will I end up having to spend more time that way to level up Amarr+Minmatar ship specific skills?
Thanks for reading/any advice!

You have created characters. You did not roll them.
Your race has virtually no impact on anything in the game. You can train whatever you want.
Cross training is usually beneficial only after you have a bit of core skills trained. For example all the basic core certificates, the basic weaponry certificates for the selected race.
Exception to this is if you want to try everything out. Then train the frigates of all races to III (takes quite little time), and give them all a try to see which style you prefer. _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

Yes, you should.

Training another races ships and waepons has no effect on training times at all.
You should stick to skilling one races ships at a time since skilling both obviously takes longer.

There are very few reasons that Race matters and those are mostly very minor considerations.
The only really major reason your Race makes a difference - is if you're into Role Playing. There are some Role Playing Corporations in EVE and ... if they're playing Amarr Defenders of the Faith! ... then being a Minmatar might be a little difficult to explain ... but - mostly - nobody else cares.
I'm not sure how much the Faction Militias care if you're from an enemy race. It doesn't matter in your ability to join that militia. The only thing that matters there is having a .5 standing with that faction or a certificate from the Advanced Military Career Agent.
The only thing you start out with that makes any difference at all is Level II for your factions frigate and maybe something for their weapon. All of which is trivial.
Other things to consider would be ... the price and availability of ammunition and such in your area ... but that's also a minor consideration. You can usually find pretty much anything anywhere though it might not be as cheap as some of the things more commonly used in that area ... Of course ... sometimes it's actually cheaper ... if the guy who made it can't find buyers ...
Some of your less common items might be a little hard to come buy though.
What really counts is what you do.
The Amarr & Caldari are allies - as are the Minmatar and Gallente.
If you run missions where you blow up a lot of some factions ships - then that will hurt your standings with that faction. Blow up enough of them - and you can have a problem entering their space.
Another consideration - is that if all your friends are up in Amarr/Caldari space and you create a Minmatar character - you're going to have to fly up there if you want to play with them.
Now ... also ... if you cross train other ships than they do - you guys won't be able to share stuff as well. Amarr ships shoot Lasers that use crystals - Minmatar ships shoot Cannon that use Projectiles. If you form a corporation - then you can create a pool of stuff you can all use, including ships but if you can't all fly the same ships or use the same weapons ... that becomes less effective. Not that that should stop you if you really want to use a different set of ships than your mates. You'll just be on your own for your stuff.
Also - if you do the Career Agent Missions for one faction - and then fly off to the other factions space - the standings you gained with the faction you did the career agent missions for - will not help you with the Agents in the other factions space - if they are one of the two enemy factions. If you just make a character in Minmatar space - then fly off to Amarr space to be with your buddies ... what have you gained? Pretty much nothing.
