I'm looking for a list of ammo that are good at L1-L3 missions for low sp players (i.e. no T2 ammo).
I'm curious if Antimatter is the only hybrid ammo of any use or if other ammos seem to hit a good enough range to make up for their lack in dps.
I've been told that faction ammo is best for L4 missions, though I think if you're running in groups (and therefore more dps and ammo costs generally aren't split) that normal ammo is best. Faction seems better for running solo as long as you're not wasting it with a ton of misses.
Anyhow, I'm basically looking for a list of good ammo types to use with the ships/builds that are typically available to low SP pilots for L1-L3 missions.
We typically fight drones, Serp, and Angels in Gallente space, but any ammo types for more exotic locations and factions would be noteworthy. I've selected bloodclaw due to the ship boni associated with it, and EM missiles due to how poorly bloodclaw seem to perform against drones. The following seem to be the only ones that I use, but I'm sure more advanced players use more ammo types:
Antimatter
Phased Plasma EMP
Gremlin Thorn
Sabertooth Bloodclaw

AFAIK, Faction ammo is considered to be too expensive per shot to be used on missions.
Anti-matter is the highest DPS hybrid ammo, but has the disadvantage of being the shortest range. Some mission runners will probably occasionally use longer range weapon types. Which ones? I don't know. The thing is that hybrids are probably the worst weapon system to use on missions - rail guns do **** poor damage, while blasters can't shoot any further than you can throw your ammo.
For level 1-3 missions, though, anti-matter might be the most popular ammo type, as it is easier to get into range in a cruiser or frigate than in a battleship.
Here's the best part though - you don't have to guess about any of this! Go to a few mission hubs, and check the price history tab on a few different types of hybrid ammo. Any ammo type which is in high demand will have a significant amount of volume traded.
You may also want to check out cruise missiles and large projectile ammunition. Both of these weapon types allow you to choose your damage type, which makes them popular for missions. T1 laser crystals don't break, so I would advise against those. ----------

That's a really smart idea (checking vol) thanks!

Actually I'm pretty disappointed in this. If you were to try to interpret what the most popular ammo is based on the market (i.e. not best, which is really what I'm after), it seems pretty hard:
You can only get regional vol, which is going to have a lot of variance in it. You can look at number of local sellers and amount of supply but that doesn't tell you much because stuff can sell out, etc.
I guess you could look at the margin and conclude that the smallest is the most popular?
Meh, any ideas are appreciated. Checking failheap/BC would be fine too I guess.

The volume tells you everything you need to know.
The most popular ammo is very easy to see. Antimatter stands out a mile for example. I also use the table to look at no. units sold per day, and avg price, which tells you whether its going to buy or sell orders.

Well, do you want to know which ammo is good to bring for a particular mission or site; or which ammo is profitable to build or trade? Those are two completely unrelated questions - and you already know the answer to the second one by looking at the market data. ---
