I am a new player (about a month old) and I am currently planing to start using a Domi as soon as T2 sentries + hull5 are ready so that I can finally move to lvl4 missions (atm doing lvl3 in a myr). But since I am mostly doing mission running and combat exploration sites in highsec, I kinda need something with a smaller hull. That is why after Domi I was planing to get skills to fly an Ishtar and maybe later a Proteus (which then I heard that they aren't that good because of the currently sucky hybrids). But now this week a dilemma came in when in 2-3 combat sites that I was doing came a Tengu and WTFPWNED the place in few minutes, while I need usually +30min to do em with a vexor for 3/10 and myr for 4/10 sites. So I am currently bashing my head if I should jump on the other side and cross train to fly a Tengu or just keep the previously planned path and go for an ishtar (and after that maybe a proteus). So any advices would be welcomed.

You're comparing a 5 million isk vexor with somewhat limited skills to a more than likely maxed out tengu worth typically around a billion. Yes, the tengu is great, however the ishtar is far from terrible, a much lower pricetag and most likely far closer to your current skillplan.
Thing is, you can with no issues at all sink another 20-30 mil worth of SP into the domi and still not have it perfected. Being great at one thing is normally far better than being useless at lots of things. Not to mention by the time you can fly a proteus decently there's nothing saying it's not top of the line. Parrots, commence!

Needing 30 mins to clear a site means you're seriously lacking in dps.
Moving to another ship won't fix that, skill training will.
I'd focus on the Myrmidon for now. Look up a good mission fit, find out what skills you need to fit the modules listed, and train those skills at least to IV (V if it's a prerequisite for other skills needed); T2 Armor Tank, T2 Medium Guns, fitting skills, Drone skills for T2 Lights and Mediums...

Just as a quick word on the myrmid aside from 4/10's there's virtually nothing it will do better than an equally skilled domi. The main difference is that the domi is no dead end in terms of pve evolution. |

Fair enough.
Although spending 4-5 hours in a lvl 4 mission with one (because of insufficient skills) is not recommended. I should know, I've been there.

In short I should keep it on the planned path :). Ye I guess my dps suck since is more or less only from the drones and it gets hurt when I can't just grab the whole room agro and have to recall them. I guess then an ishtar is the next stop for me while I focus on improving my currently lacking hybrids weapons skill.

You can use a Myrm for the places your Domi can't go.Damn thing can put up a monster passive shield tank and you can get decent dps out of 3 sentries and have a flight of lights and mediums to deal with anything that gets in too close.
try something like
[Myrmidon, sheild myrm arty] Power Diagnostic System II Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Damage Control II
Heat Dissipation Field II Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive Ballistic Deflection Field II Ballistic Deflection Field II Large Shield Extender II
650mm Artillery Cannon II, Republic Fleet Fusion M 650mm Artillery Cannon II, Republic Fleet Fusion M 650mm Artillery Cannon II, Republic Fleet Fusion M 650mm Artillery Cannon II, Republic Fleet Fusion M 650mm Artillery Cannon II, Republic Fleet Fusion M 650mm Artillery Cannon II, Republic Fleet Fusion M
Medium Core Defence Field Purger I Medium Core Defence Field Purger I Medium Core Defence Field Purger I
Hammerhead II x5 Hobgoblin II x5 Garde II x3
Tad light on the DPS but it has a tank that would put most BS's to shame ranges from 512 vs Sansha at the low end up to 870 dps tank vs Gurista's at the high with appropriate hardeners. DPS with all 5s around 424 the 270 of which comes from Gardes obviously that will lower for lower skills but that should give you an idea of what it's capable of.
As far as a dead end a Myrm isn't a dead end since the BC skill is portable to other races ships(just train racial cruiser to 4 and you've got their BC at what ever level you have BC trained too).
Domi is kind of a PVE dead end since there isn't really a drone boat that will beat it out. The Ishtar can work close in some situations but in the end a gun/drone Domi will still out mission it. Particularly if you get some shield skills and do a the 425mm shield-gank Navy Domi so it's a pretty awesome dead end to be at.
The Domi is also one of those really handy PVP ships that can fill a wide range of roles well thanks to it's high level of utility. No lost SP on this train IMO. Cross train Mini and AC's for ultimate win factor with Angel ships.
what guns you put on it doesn't matter too much since they're going

Thank you for the lengthy reply. Anyway I would have another question. I read many threads/whines about how bad hybrids are and I even saw quite many fits that ignore the ship bonuses and put in projectile weapons instead of hybrids. So question is should I still keep with the hybrids and hope they will get "fixed" or should I rather go with the projectiles and ignore the ship bonuses I might have. In the end I will eventually master them both, but I am looking for suggestion on what I should rather focus first.

crosstrain to winmatar and fly a hurricane imo. then, when your gunnery skills are top notch and you've earned a couple billions, go for maelstrom and then directly for machariel.
