Hey guys, ive been succesfully starting running missions with my Gila which is every penny worth it. I was wondering as im soon to step up to lvl 3 missions if my Gila would have enough dps. Currently im taking down cruisers "okay" but im worried it will be a problem at lvl 3.
Here is my current fit:
[Gila, New Setup 1] Damage Control II Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I
Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II Heat Dissipation Amplifier II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Omnidirectional Tracking Link I 10MN Afterburner II
Assault Missile Launcher II, Sabretooth Fury Light Missile Assault Missile Launcher II, Sabretooth Fury Light Missile Assault Missile Launcher II, Sabretooth Fury Light Missile Small Tractor Beam I [empty high slot]
Medium Core Defence Field Purger I Medium Core Defence Field Purger I Medium Core Defence Field Purger I
Garde I x5 Hammerhead I x5
Im worried that my drone skills will be the troublemaker (only about 1.5mill sp atm), do you suggest i wait until i get T2 drones or can i cut it with t1 gardes and hammerheads? my tank is about 300dps

The most tank you will need for any level three is ~150-200 dps.
Probably even less.

Alright, thank you for the response. I guess once my drone training start for real i'll be shipping out lots more dps :)

Edited by: Nikita LaFem on 17/08/2011 12:12:54 Once your skills are solid you will find the Gila is really too much boat for most (if not all) level 3 missions. I am starting to use it in Level 4 missions along with my Drake. Got rid of the BS' and focused on mor speed and less tank. Works better in my mind. You NEED to keep an AB on and be able to run it constantly. If I start running low on cap I tend to turn something else off.
Also, a little tip, Republic Fleet 10nm afterburners are well worth their price (IMO).
Also,I still use T1 sentrys. Yea, T2's are a lot better but have had other training interest. Typically I only use sentries on L4's anyhow.

I would actually trade 1-3 of the SPRs for BCUs for more damage. You really don't need insane tank for lvl 3s, especially if you have an AB to keep your speed up. If you just drop your Gardes and orbit one of them at 1km (or, if you're using drones that move, just orbit some piece of space junk at 10km), you should have plenty of tank for any lvl 3 mission, and the increased missile DPS will help take stuff down sooner.

I transferred my Gila to my well specĘd drone alt recently so I could play with. IĘve gone for a lazy omni fit and simply drop a can to orbit it with the AB on as made it cap stable for this very thing. Easily cope with lvl 3Ęs and a few lvl 4Ęs
I would suggest working on your drone skills as a priority, getting T1 heavies to start with for flexibility in missions. Once done and interfacing to IV, must have T2 scout drones and then decide which you want to take from sentry or heavy to V first. IĘd go sentry to use bouncer and garde for range control and instant damage, but you may be more of an AFK player where heavies may suite your style better. Interfacing to V, ship drone bonus and good support skills really makes them shine

gila with good drone skills gives you like 500DPS from drones. quite enough for lvl3

5 hammerheads should be enough for any level 3 mission. Get your Gallente cruiser to at least 4 (for the ship bonus to drone DPS), and train drone interfacing.

with the right skills, the gila is an extremely capable L4 mission ship. i used to deploy T2 sentries and orbit them while they blew everything up until i got bored with that. i don't think you'll have too many issues with L3s, but you should work on getting T2 drone skills. otherwise, you'll take forever to complete missions.

I actually thought about that aswell but i remember reading somewhere on another gila thread that this would not be worth it having only 3 launches. But if my tank holds together fine on lvl 3 missions i maybe swap one SPR out for one definitely.
Cheers for the input btw guys, learning alot.

Gila has an insane tank, he can more than easily just throw in several BCU's and still never have it broken in a lv3. Heck I use mine for AFK lv4's and the lowest I've had my tank drop was 49% so far and I tried to get it to drop, and that was with full room aggro.
As a side note you should probably work on getting T2 scout drones right away, they are quite handy. BCU's do only add a few DPS, not much so it's debattable weither or not you want to use it. Actually I probably keep the SPRs if I were you and throw in my omni links instead while still keeping your tank and just start removing the large shield extenders or hardeners. 2-3 omni links would work out quite nicely for your sentry drones when your trying to pick enimies off at range. Than we they get close just scoop them up and release your hammerheads or hobgoblins and go afk and come back to a finished mission.

Drake will pwn Gila in lvl3's anyday... About 200dps tank is enough for lvl3s... 70km range in heavies...missions done in flash... AB makes you move fast..

Edited by: Jak Silverheart on 18/08/2011 11:06:56 Fill in that last high slot, put in a drone navigation link I believe it's called off memory that will extend the range of your drone control range. Or if your fitting skill aren't perfect and since the Gila is such a tight fit, just put in a Auto Targeter I. It req is CPU 1 and I think PG 1 or 0, and you can enjoy having more max locks on your ship as it doesn't need to be on to get that.
And if you ever have a lot of issues fitting your ship, drop your T2 assault missiles for arabalest assault missiles, in general I would avoid this but for this ship you can only field 3 launchers and it's damage is unbounused so your only losing a max of a few DPS. Which is not that big of a deal. I actually had to do this for my Gila ship build, was quite a tight fit as well.
And to the person who mentioned the Drake, yes the drake will do it better. But this isn't about the Drake. Not to mention this pilot already has this ship and skills to fly it, reskiling to be a bit more effecient when you have a ship that they are using in lv2's and is more than capable of running lv4's seems counter productive. And for the record I wouldn't exactly call the Drake fast just because it has an AB on it, I've flown that one that way it's slow. Heck the Nighthawk is my primary ship with an AB, it's slow. The Gila I use to fully AFK missions with an AB is significantly faster in terms of top speed and getting up to said speed.

Sorry to hijack the thread - but my question is relevant, I think;
So Jak, the Auto Targeter does not have to be "activated" to get the additional target bonus? You sure about that?
I wanted to fit one but did not because I did not want it auto targeting a group I did not want aggro'ed yet.
On this point, toward the OP's use of the Gila: often dealing with the more difficult missions that are high incoming DPS is all about room/aggro management. I am not an AFK'er, so I run through the missions pretty fast.
It may have been mentioned, but 2 Omni's, 2 Drone Controll links and (when you have skills) a sentry rig or two make the Gila shine. I have not found a decent use for the Drone Nav Control unit not taken care of with the others. |

The auto targeter does not need to be turned on to get the increase in max locks (doesn't work if it's offline I believe). When it is turned on it will only target the targets actively engaging you, and it won't target anything if no one is engaging you even if there are hostiles within range. And yes I am quite sure about this, I use these on my mission ships quite often as I can't always fit other modules due to fitting constraints.
You can also go into your options and set auto target back up to 12. Most people find that this works better for them as it doesn't require a module and helps with getting targets quite a bit. Press ESC and this is under one of the options, forgot where exactly though, but it's easy enough to find. |

Drake? Really? Sentry Gila is much better than the drake. It's about twice as fast, has plenty of room for an AB, can tank comparable amounts, and does much more damage to battleship sized targets.
I've used the Gila in Lvl 4's, and the dps is fine. Drake, not so much.

Gila with active tank and an ABII can easily do level 4 missions. I've yet to try it with sentries, but ogres work quite well.
To the OP: IMHO go for an active tank, much smaller signature on an active tank Gila than a passive one, and you can easily get it more or less cap stable.

I did actually start out with an active shield tank, but found it difficult to run the afterburner stable aswell with my current skills, so maybe later when i get them sorted i will go active tank again, but for now i am loving the passive fit :)
