So im minmatar and ive also cross skilled into flying gallentee ships, and my rupture is good but lately has been risky in flying missions, i think its time i upgrade to a new ship, iv saved up nearly 30mil and i cant choose between a hurricane or a myrmidon. Which is better for rats, pvp, etc.

Rule of Thumb for missions and ship sizes:
1 - frigate 2 - cruiser 3 - battle cruiser 4 - battle ship
These are all t1 by the way.
Now for choosing between a cane and a myrm, I'd say that would be more skill dependent. Both do well in pvp/pve, with the myrm being more flexible with set-up, and cane with higher damage.

Depends on your skills.
Do your medium projectile skills out match your drone skills? The go with the Cane.
Vice Versa? The go with the Myrm.
Also look at the bonuses of the ships (this is a standard rule of thumb to apply to flying all ships in Eve), and play to their strengths. If your higher skills compliment one of the ships' bonuses more than the other, then use it. |

I should also point out that there's a big skillpoint difference in what's required of medium projectiles on a battlecruiser in a level 3 and large projectiles on a battleship in a level 4. The difference between a level 3 and level 4 is much bigger than the difference between a level 2 and 3, so don't be caught unawares.
Gunnery support skills for things like tracking, falloff, etc are as or more important than the core gun skill itself in a level 4, since most of the enemies are still BC size or smaller and you now have to hit them with large weapons (your drones cannot do all the work on a non-bonused ship in this regard.)

Where are you running your missions?
If you are in Minmatar space you can use Explosive Projectiles against the Angels whereas if you are in Gallente space they're more vulnerable to Thermal and Kinetic. Rails only do Thermal & Kinetic.
Here's the Players Guide on Missions - look under Know Your Enemy to see which damage to tank and which to deal.
For the most part - a factions ships tend to be good at dealing with the rats in their area, which are mostly like themselves.
This isn't to say that you can't kill rats from one area with other weapons - just that the weapons for their area have been designed to kill them.
Of course - if you want to engage Angels in a Myrmidon you can fly such as Warriors - or whatever larger size Minmatar Drone you want.
Missiles provide the same flexibility.

There's no point in mounting hybrid guns on a Myrm. It doesn't have a bonus on them and hybrid guns suck compared to projectiles. . |

A lot of Gallente pilots have hybrid guns already trained - but don't have any training in projectile weapons. That would be the point in putting Hybrids on a Myrmidon.
If, however, a pilot already has alternate turret types trained, as the OP (who is Minmatar) probably does and his ship gets no bonus for any particular turret type - then they could of course put any turret they wanted on there (as long as it fits).
And - yes - this would make the area you were going to mission in matter less - as long as you stuck to the Myrmidon rather than going to the Brutix.
As to how badly Rails suck ... Hybrids are considered the suck of the moment but that's usually exaggerated and ... often changes when a weapons system gets buffed. The real problem with Hybrids - was Blasters - which were dependent on getting very close to the enemy to be effective. When warp disruptors started turning off MWD's and CCP changed the dynamics of ship combat because of it, specifically wanting to increase the importance of after burners - Blasters took a hit as it became more difficult for ships equipped with then to close and keep to very short ranges.
Rails may also have their problems in comparison to other turret types but I don't believe they've been effected as much as the Blasters were. Essentially - Rails never changed in the way they were used - whereas Blasters did.
The impression I have - is that Lasers used to be the suck of the moment - but then they got buffed and are much more effective now.
I don't remember if Projectile weapons were buffed or not.

i agree, without alot od drone skills i would say you need to go wtih the hurricane. The myrm is very drone skill dependant, i'd say take a look decide how you want to do your missions and then use that ship which fits your play style

Altho not mentioned, I vote Drake, because you can even do L4's with it with better tanking skills. ________________________ CCP: Where fixing bugs is a luxury, not an obligation. |

Cane :) Fast, Mega DPS, and only takes 10 seconds to optimise projectile turrets for any damage type.
