I downloaded the 14 day trial from Steam, played it a little bit and then eventually my PC started to lock up. It would essentially seem like I was going to DC and then it would run for 5-20 seconds and seize again.
Even once I was able to get out of the EVE client my computer would continue to act up, even a restart doesn't work a full shut down is required.
Prior to actually purchasing the game I ran the "repair" tool. After running this I was prompted that I needed to download files (about 4 gb worth) I did so (it just duplicated files I had)... deleted the original files and started using the game without steam. That was about a week ago and I hadn't had any issues. I have since purchased the game, probably played for 10 or so hours and 20 minutes ago I had the same problem.
I have since deleted all the EVE files and am now downloading the client from the official EVE website. Can anyone tell me if they've had or heard of similar issues? I don't have any hardware issues with any other games so unlikely it's hardware. And I know EVE can be somewhat demanding but I'm using an Intel 2600K, 4 gb of DDR3 memory and an ATI 5870 GPU, I shouldn't be having any issues.

Sounds like your cpu is entering failsafe mode. Check the fan is rotating freely and is able to get some decent rpms. Also check that the heatsink is clear from dust.
Most new processors do not "overheat" above working limits. However they do throttle their speed all the way down to full stop if cooling fails.
Malfunctioned fan or dust blocking the heatsink are most common causes, but sometimes entire heatsink can be loose or installed wrong way.
Temperature monitoring programs won't tell you much, unless you've been monitoring the fan speeds before and know pretty well how fast they should be rotating on idle and on full load. I recommend opening the case and doing visual check. --- This is one of the moments where we look at what CCP does and less of what they say. Innovation takes time to set in and the predictable reaction is always to resist change |

Thank you for the response but I'm going to say heat is not the issue or the fans or whatever. I'm running a Corsair H70 (water cooling) I haven't specifically checked if the fans are going when I have this issue but my CPU temp is like 32 - 35 degrees, it won't throttle until around 90.
Also Once this issue occurs even after I restart my computer if I log back into EVE my computer will lock up, doesn't matter if I've had my PC on for 5 minutes or 5 hours it will lock up within 30 seconds. And again this issue only occurs with Eve. .... I would say it sounds like the files get corrupted but was hoping for some other input.

One thing you might find useful is, that EvE seems to somewhat "lock" when it loses network connection. There is rather long delay before client restarts or closes.
Some people (in austalia I believe) have been experiencing some EvE's network trafic blocking by their isp, but these kinds of issues could be caused by some local sources too.
Most commonly, network card drivers, firewalls or/and av-softwares with network protection, routers... EvE could be the trigger to activate some "block".
It is unlikely that files could get corrupted from 2 installations so fast, unless your storage device is failing horribly. I would check that the eve's cache folder was cleared during the steam/official conversion tho. Clearing it as your first action now would do no harm and that is good thing to try also.
Hopefully you figure the source of the problem out. Good luck :)

Just some more information on this 'issue'
This happened to me again the other day, I decided to run an error check on my hard drive and it came back error free. I noticed I had the option to run the game in 'safe mode' I tried that and so far it seems to be working. Also every time I log in it asks if I want to download Incarna update 5 and I keep saying no.
Hopefully continuing this way will avoid my problem.
