Bhaalgorn or Vindicator. Although it depends which system we're talking about here so if you could give us that information maybe

For T1 ships I'd go with a Dominix, a Hurricane or a Harbinger. Perhaps a tripplerep Myrmidon if you have epic cap skills.
T2: Ishkur, Ishtar, Claymore, Absolution or Taranis - these are the only ones I've tried tho.
T3: Proteus.
Faction: Dramiel, Vindicator, Ashimmu aka Aw****mycapmu or Machariel.

Assuming you have a way of getting fights: Cost a factor: Drake, cane, rep myrm, t1 frigs. Not a factor: Tengu, Cynabal, Bhaalgorn, Daredevil, Dramiel + plenty of other things that are good pimped
Assuming you don't have a way of getting gudfites you better fly something that can, aka a suboptimal ship that is not one of the above.

rupture is excellent value, and the stabber can offer faster dual prop anti frig antics.
my faves are tengu and cyna, but ma ny of the fights i get in could have been done with a ruppy tbh, its just finding the fight that costs the extra in most cases :P

Everything these days is blobs, so to solo effectively you have to be able to engage and disengage at will. It also helps if you can fight several ships at once. As such, EW, speed and range are what you want to go for rather than tank and dps. So my recommendations are: Curse (nano), vagabond, cynabal (nano), fleet stabber (nano), arazu (rails/shield), rapier (arty), cerb (HAM's, nano) and similar ships. The key is keeping range and those ships do that pretty well. I haven't found t3's very good for solo but I only fly the legion and loki. The tengu seems pretty solid but I can't say from experience. Obviously it helps a lot to have a loki ganglink alt for greater speed and point range.

t3 with a large afterburner and proper pimped out is by far the best for solo work.

Sleipnir > Claymore
Nope. With similar skillsets the Claymore will beat a Sleipnir. Sleip is more fun but its not a better solo ship - I agree that logically it should be, but its not.

Prime example of why true solo pvp is slowly dying off...why not throw in a few logis while your at it. Just because you have 1 dps ship, does not mean it's solo.
Rant aside, I'd say which ever battlecruiser you can fly best will always provide you with tons of fun, as long as you can actually get fair fights.

Wanna justify this? Tengu is a damned good ship, it has fantastic agility, speed, DPS, range, and tank. Only downside is it's pricey and likely to be blobbed (it is shiny after all). ---------------------------------------- Commanding Officer of the Treacle Tart Federation |

No, T3 ships are not the best solo ships. Unless you have a bottomless well of isk and don't mind your kill board isk losses figure running into the billions after a few losses.
Don't listen to these people.
Most of the ships they're suggesting will get you blobbed, or are over-powered, FOTM-mobiles that will not get you fights.
Pick a frigate class ship. Solo combat is VERY easy to find in frigates, and people don't tend to bait or blob frigates. You can also traverse low-sec without fear of gate camps. And they're cheap. And frigate pilots are just better than other pilots.

Frigate pvp is only pvp!
I disagree with "frigate pilots are just better than other pilots" though; that's just disrespecting your enemies and disrespecting other ship classes.

anything active tanked or nano. examples - brutix cyclone ferox myrmidon prophecy, Any t1 bs...... frigs. etc. Solo/active tanking = win. Leave the t2 ships to the idiots who fly them, and prey they come near you.
In terms of nano - cane HML drake harbinger rupture thorax(yes, i did) etc. Protip, put more then 1 nano in ur nano ship. "something quirky here" |

He's actually not far off. Tengu with a tengu booster or legion with legion booster will do just fine. Falcon is just overkill. Just look at garmon's handy work with either. (El tar) 100mn ab is more than enough gtfo ability. Keep solo alive!

Start with something relatively cheap till you get the hang of it , like a rifter, rupture.
fraps your fight and see later what you did right, wrong and can improve.
When you have more experience, use a vaga, its a very good hit and run ship
Don t take something that fly like a brick, you have to be able to engage and disengage at will.
Dont use T3 , its a gank magnet

In today's Eve, solo means being prepared to fight gangs, unless all you want to do is gank mission runners/ratters. In that case, go for a Pilgrim. Otherwise, read below:
Battlecruisers are probably the best things to solo in - they blend in quite well since they are common thus won't attract larger gangs (unless they are bored). Small gangs will happily go for you. A decent pilot in one can do some great things, pick either active (Myrmidon >> Cyclone unless you are willing to invest in Crystals) or nano (Shield Harbinger/Drake/Arty Cane/AC Cane).
Recons for the most part lack enough DPS to really solo well, with the exception of the Huginn which even then, draws a fair bit of attention.

There are two principle issues you need to deal with if you decide to be an active solo pvp'er.
First is cost. To some people ' Blob ' might mean 20 to another 200. A Velator and a Falcon is a blob when you're solo'ing. You WILL loose ALOT of ships. Get used to it and plan accordingly.
The second bigger issue is actually finding action. For whatever reason the last few months have seen a dramatic downturn in low sec solo roamers so good fights are getting very hard to come by. That said, this is one of the biggest influencers in ship choice imo. Not many people run from a solo incursus, tristan, riffter, merlin, vexor, arbi, rupture. If you decide to run an ishtar, vengeance, dram, curse, vaga, t3 ... dont expect as many people to stick around. Fly T1 junk and you're more likely to have a fight come to you ( like it or not ) than flying fancy.
Frigs: Riffter, incursus, tristan, merlin, punisher Cruisers: Vexor, thorax, stabber, rupture, caracal, arbi, omen BC: Vaga-cane, myrm, nano-drake

Imo the best line of ships for solo PVP are t3 cruisers. That is, if you either already are very pro at solo PVP or if you have a nearly bottomless wallet (so you can afford many losses while learning).
If you're still learning solo PVP (or, like me, can't afford 1+bil ISK for a fairly high-risk ship) then I'd go with battle cruisers (for example Hurricane). They are both cheap to lose, don't require that many skills to fly and are still strong enough to hold your own against a few decent-sized targets.
If you're really poor or inexperienced then I'd even go further down and fly only with t1 cruisers for the beginning. You won't be winning many fights with this but it will allow you to develop a feeling for PVP (when is it a trap for example) without losing billions of ISK.
If you're starting out with solo PVP then I'd fly a ship you can replace at least 50 times without running out of ISK.

You need to chose the ship that will get you a fight, means you need to know your target
Every ship has advantages and draw backs, Eve is a simple accounting program with credits/debits
If you chose the wrong ship for the situation... say a rifter to fight a neut double webbed cane you will typically lose even if the cane is a 30 day old noob
1st you wanna fight, so showing up in a Vindi or t3 may not get you that unless ofc you wanna fight a small fleet, then you need to counter the counter counter, perhaps not what you're looking for... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "You got LUCKY, luck is when opportunity and preparation meet." |
