As the tittle, before I finish that text I hope you guys can give me some comments either agree or disagree is ok, with some logically valid reasons.
Is that good for EVE if CCP sells skill points? Will this attract more players that can reasonablly cover the rage quits? If the sale should be limited, how does the limit would be? by amount or by account?

If they sell SP that would be EVE's NGE moment and the servers would flip off within a year.

Selling SP would destroy the entire core of the gameplay. Gaining skills and getting experience while you fly your ship is one of the most fun and also one of the most important parts of the game. Having to train skills and also having to wait for the skills forces players to put some thoughts into their characters and how to apply the skills best they have now.
Selling SP just cheapens the experience, not to mention that it would attract more instant gratification kiddies like the OP to EVE.

I can see some sort of SP reallocation working, with limits i.e. no more than 6m/year, but anything whereby you buy SP you have not trained will kill this game dead. It would also kill the character bazaar, and any sense of being able to gauge the strength of an opponent by their characters age which is one of the key factors in whether you engage another character in combat or not (all other appearing equal).
There are no doubt plenty of other reasons but will leave for others to point out as I need to get some sleep... --

Selling SP would diminish the fun for new players. Why would they want to do that? Sure, everybody in Eve (except perhaps those who are playing since launch) wishes they could catch Dr. Caymus somehow, but the progression from nothing is part of the adventure. Removing it only makes for a worse game.
We all think the destination is the fun part, but really it's the journey.

I agree. But it would be mediated with proper limits, such as no more than 10M SPs per year
And the problem here is the sence of people: the advantages of old players are just overpowered from SP,experience and isk.

Paying to redistribute a set amount of SP on one account and only one character may work to a limited degree. Say only a few times a year, with a high cost increasing with the # of SP to be redistributed and a penalty as a percentage of the SP to be redistributed taken from the player permanently. But buying SP? No never. Not for any price.

$50 per skill point max 100 SP per month.
for the slow people on the forum, that would be thousands if not hundreds of thousands for a x1 skill, also it would probably take a year
i say put this in just to stop these threads, it wouldnt break the game at all. Eve online next expansion details |

Selling free skill points is beyond stupid.
However selling the amount of skill points you could have made with +3 implants since your birth shouldn't be so bad. Providing your account was active the entire time. You will see people with 74million skills points rising to maybe 80 million skill points. That would be the only way i would continue to play if skill points go up for sale.

You know it really wouldn't suprise me if CCP actually implemented this. I mean buy ISK for cash is already in place, buying characters is already in place.. skill points is the next logical place to go and frankly I'm not sure it would impact the game any more or less than being able to get insta ISK or insta Characters. I mean its all bull**** if you ask me and for all the *****ing and complaining people do on the forums their seems to be general support for both ISK for cash and Characters for cash and six years ago the mere mention of that would cause ragethreads all over the forum.
So I think the community would just come to accept it as they did ISK purchases and Character purchases, just new ways to legally cheat in the game.
For the record though, if they did sell skill points I would quit playing the game.

Buying SP would be a game breaker. atm it's the limiting factor. 20b in the bank (that you bought) does not turn you into a leetpvper. Being able to buy 50m in SP would.
Buying a char doesn't break the game because the SP was paid for and earned... the hard way.

Here's flame free answer:
Is that good for EVE if CCP sells skill points?
No, it is not good for EVE to sell skill points. EVE is a sandbox game with player run economy. That means that players are creating gameplay content for other players. The game itself is only here to provide the shell, not to provide the content. If players could buy skill points, it would eliminate many aspects of the game because no one would do them. Since all professions and aspect of this game are connected, often through the economy, the game would collapse as well as the in-game economy. That and it would be no fun at all to change the fundamental game mechanics that kept this game alive and in constant increase of subscriptions for the last 8 years.
Will this attract more players that can reasonablly cover the rage quits?
What you are referring to as "rage quits" are actually the players that run this game and create the content. New players would not have much fun on their own and the lifespan of those accounts would decrease dramatically to the point where it's no longer profitable to keep the game alive.
If the sale should be limited, how does the limit would be? by amount or by account?
It should not be implemented at all - ever.
While most of the people agree with the character trade, why would some people insistly against the sale of SP?
One of the reasons is that with character trades everyone wins. The player that sells the character wins because he got the ISK, the player that bought the character wins because he got the character he wanted, CCP wins because they got the transfer fee. The ISK that was transfered to the seller will be used to create additional gameplay content - he'll either invest it in production and boost the market, invest in PvP ships and provide PvP content to other players, set up some corp ship replacement program and gather other players around him making the gameplay content for them all, invest in a war declaration, etc. Give money for SP directly to CCP and you've eliminated all those endless possibilities to create real gameplay content.
People saying it will break the game, the question is : how? or why?
Read all of the above.
One more additional note: On top of all, I really hate the kids with rich parents or bored no-lifes with deep pockets that have no brain, knowledge and patience to even play the game like normal people and actually use their time or brain to get what they want. Yes, you can cash out whatever you want even now with PLEX, but at least you are providing gameplay content for other players while you do it. That's why I don't play any other MMO.
Cheers. |

"If players could buy skill points, it would eliminate many aspects of the game because no one would do them" I couldn't understand your point. For example? What professional will be eliminated if CCP sells SPs? Character farmer?
Originally by: The Offerer Her What you are referring to as "rage quits" are actually the players that run this game and create the content.New players would not have much fun on their own.
The first idea is based on one assumption: "Most of the current players will quit" And another question is, if "New players would not have much fun on their own", then how did EVE has so many players now? The game is always starts with purely new players. To let these make sense, it is good to know if or how to sell SPs would cause "most of the current players to quit".

PLEX for skill point boost, for example, New player gets skill point boost, new player wins;no mention CCP sells more PLEX/GTC; PLEX sellers gets more money, "he'll either invest it in production and boost the market, invest in PvP ships and provide PvP content to other players(.....)to create real gameplay content", everyone wins. As well as the last reason.
Maybe we can change the way: People can sell their skill points directly. The only difference from this to character trade is the character name.

Well after leaving EVE, and traveling back to my older mmo's, or mmo's I have played while in eve. Any progression that can be bought is the worst thing for a game. Along with content that has to be bought-that is not a major expantion.
Went back to AoC for a bit. Took one look at there MT store, and realized. Though I have bashed CCP for there Barbie doll cloths, they have not even touched the surface of game breaking MT.
But in that same sence, playing alot of WoT's I have also seen what a company can do to really balance there MT progression. Hard to explain, in EVE terms, but Aura was implamented wrong, but had a true solid Idea behind it. Just did not pan out, and it is time for its removal.

skill point redistribution I can agree with. Honestly its a fair trade no matter how you look at it so long as you can only respend the sp you spent on attributes that share a primary and a secondary. I can't see the down side of this. Giving up sp you put into mining would remove your ability to make isk if you lose everything in combat. And vice versus for any aspect of game play.
Time = skill points, ISK = skill points, and RMT = skill points, people are just to ignorant to see that huge character bazaar. Though I wouldn't mind if I got to keep my name and just redistribute every once in a while. Rather than be stuck specializing in things that get nerfed and buffed drastically and spontaneously.

What if not CCP would sell skillpoints but the PLAYERS would do it from their own characters?
This way, no 'new' skillpoints would enter EVE and for every gain there would be a loss somewhere.
Would that make it better, more balanced, more fair? |

New player joins EVE, looks at our 2003 toons, says "****, I will never ever catch up to those guys". Comes on the forums...
Classic story, what these noobs need to realize is that SP is not like levels in other MMOs, you can have 100mil SP but no specialization in any field and a 20mil SP guys will stomp all over you. There is only a limited amount of SP you can utilize when doing a certain activity or flying a certain race.
Im flying a harbinger f.ex, all my maxed up blaster skills, or all those science and industry skills are worthless, a new player will achieve the same performance from a harbinger in a few months. What a new player cant do is cross train, but then again you always have the character bazaar.
In my corp Im like a joker card, I could fit in any role, but once in that role Im no better than some 2009 toon.

I am a new player and if this was ever implemented I would not play anymore.
I like making the most of the things available to me now while planning ahead for new things and learning as i go.
PLEX and char bazaar already goes too far imo but I have accepted them Cash for SP i would not be able to swallow.
I do not care that players have hundreds of millions of SP more than me and that I can never have as many as them as they can only get so good at flying one particular type of ship so the advantage of <insert huge number here> of SP is adaptability and branching off into other things.
tl;dr: make the most of what you have, cash for SP is bad.
