Can someone explain why CCP seems to have gone to the totalitarian state management book for EVE?
1. Trying to force the population(s) to do things 1 new way over the old "free choice" mode of operation? 2. Thinks that the main or perhaps only motivation of players is ISK and status amoung the player base? 3. Add as many other versions/observations you noted...
I don't get how CCP could simply abandon every principle of their own operational motto and mission plan...
The operative thing seems to be "in the name of promoting X in the game we will change Y to Z" - then Y becomes Z and Z nerfs the hell out of X and kills it dead...

Money rules the world, they reckon they'll make more of it this way.
Does CCP give more of a damn about their subscribers than most MMO providers? Absolutely Are we more important than money? Of course not.

You know not to have to rehash it but to have a discussion like this you have to give specific facts rather than generalization based on perceptions and opinion. I mean "Trying to force the population(s) to do things 1 new way over the old "free choice" mode of operation?" ... What facts do you have to support that conclusion? What specific thing are they doing that indicates this being true.
I'm not saying your wrong, I've been around for a long time and understand many of the underlyning issues, but if your going to pose a question for discussion, make a detailed one or you will get replies that are just as general and based on perception as the question.
So the question is, what are we actually talking about here? NEX store? Incursions (if so what aspect of incursions)? Proposed changes in the Null Sec Development Design Goals blog?
Replying the style of generalization and perception. My personal perception is that CCP is basically designing the game to expand what you can do in it, but at the same time creating more incentive for players to expand what they do in the game. The idea being, their is a lot of content in this game, far more than any two MMO's put together on the market today, but activities of players in the game are centralized around very small portions of this content. The large majority of the population for example lives in High Sec and a good chunk of it never even leaves Jita and the surrounding systems. Their are players here that have done nothing but mine or run missions for years and despite the existance of the incalculable amount of things you can actually do in this game, they continue to go to the same minefield year in year out and do nothing but mining. CCP is basically creating new content and giving trying to come up with a way to make that content something a stagnat player that has been doing the same thing and nothing but in Eve to go out and try it.
I find that perception that CCP has to be quite true. I know a lot of people in game and I can't think of a single person that does anything other than what they have always done.
If the question is, is it a good idea to change game mechanics to push people in new direction? Specifically is it good for the game as a whole. I believe the answer is no, sadly. Its an unfortunate aspect of Eve gameplay but people do what they find they enjoy the most and are unwillingly to try new things and when changes are proposed that affect what they already do in a negative way they see it as an attack on "their way to play Eve", as oppossed to what the intent is, which is to motivate people to try other things.
Particularly things like mining in High sec are practically an epidemic in terms of stagnation of activity in the game. But again, you can't really do much about a player who enjoys that aspect and the success that comes from it (becoming rich or whatever their motivation is) by making it a less profitable for example in an effort to get them out mining in low sec .. as an example. It just doesn't work, people rather quit than consider actually trying something new and that has always been so throughout Eve's lifespan.
Personally I support most of the Null sec proposed changes, but in terms of response to the blog and the changes I'm not suprised to see outrage. People just don't want to participate in certain types of activites in the game and in a way they would be forced to unless they are ready to be less successful in the game doing things they have always done.
More specifics on the question would be good though if for no other reason than to give us some direction for the discussion.

Yea I observed the same, this all started with the "bizdevs" and a new marketing guy I think..
If money ppl get involved in content development this is the **** we get I guess.. Creative ppl create the content then marketing sells it, at CCP it seems marketing makes the content and then CCP-dev alts try to market this to us.. wierd really!

Success drives people mad.
They begin to believe their success results solely from their own smart decisions.
They see customers not as a valuable asset and driving force in their success, but solely as unthinking stupid cash cows.
But truth is customers arent that way, they want to have a choice and only stick with a company that treats them as equal and as adults.
CCP is making a very dumb mistake here.
But alas its not the first and not the last attempt to wake them up. Maybe its really game over. Next patch might tell.
