Thank you A solid proof. Did you notice player numbers drop since Incarna release from 47000 to 39000 at best? Already see an argument that it might be alts taken offline since impossibility to run multiple Incarna clients. Sound statistics. You made a very good bulletproof point Cipher. lol look at the steady decline from the "all time" graph -------- CCP knows better than the players whats good for their game. SOE knew what was best for SWG too. Better than all those players that left too. |

I wasn't even aware of EVE Online existence two years ago.
What point did you make? That EVE numbers actually increase despite all the concerns to the contrary. Why so? We can theorize until tomorrow. Not enough data to argue with facts. You can't deny that after Incarna release these numbers made a nose dive. What caused these number to steadily increase since then? May be "instant grat" players influx, may be interest from these who ceased to play years ago, may be advertisement campaign. I don't know in which time zone you live but i live in EU time zone. So we either continue this discussion tomorrow or simply agree that pushing the limits turned your gracious victory into bleak statistic variation.
Have a nice time of EVE.

But yes eve has taken a hit from it's all time high...neglect of eve is often sited as a reason.

Eve has many.many alts
I know chars that have eight alts
So, I feel that the drop in numbers is caused thro ppl having problems running multiple accounts
This should be a worry for CCP in two ways,
1. Incarna has effected its revenue as the software restricts multiple accounts
2. Its main revenue is made up from its playerbase having alts and if they are unhappy with the game, they drop the alts and CCP lose revenue
So has the playerbase actually grown over the last few years or is it that the existing playerbase have got alts and falsely inflated the true game numbers

Remember kids, all graphs on eve offline are read from right to left.
Also, don't forget we have quite a few people unable to play because they didnt save up their real life cash for a new video card that supports shader 3.0, even though CCP gave them 6 months of preparation.
Next - how many of them are bots?
How many of them left because they have no money irl, due to bad economy.
If you look at the statistics from eve offline, you will see eve has 1 year of huge growth and 1 year of decline then another year of growth, but overall a steady increase.
Also there are a lot of people waiting till december to come back waiting to see if 0.0 and stuff really gets fixed.
Finally, sometimes people just want a break from the whining and complaining. Seriously not even my friends toddlers complain as much as the eve community.

Eve is dying.
On August 24, 2010, the concurrent capsuleers whom logged into the server was 37,229. On August 24, 2011, the maximum number of capsuleers whom logged into the server was 38,025.
I guess EVE grew by 4,000 players in that one day, right? Or are we showing a sustained growth with your troll numbers?
Better yet, let's assume that the number of players did indeed rise after that day, and are subsequently going down again.
On August 24, 2009, the concurrent capsuleers whom logged into the server was 29,106.
Growth from 2009 - 2010 = 7,877 Growth from 2010 - 2011 = 796
You picked a good day to support your point. I picked the day before that.

When people talk about "EVE dying" they don't really mean subscription numbers, they usually refer to the spirit of the game - the original idea of hardcore game design.
CCP could look at WoW and use it as a great example on how to get lots more people, by making the game more PvE oriented and much more carebear friendly. But by doing so, they would be killing EVE as a game. The player base changes just as the game changes, old people leave, new people come - different type of people. The spirit of EVE will be dead long before subscription numbers dwindle.

Um, you do realize that with increasing hardware requirements that stress most players' components, many cannot multi-box as efficiently as before? You do realize the average number of alts per player?
No, obviously you don't with such disregard of statistical analysis. Sadly for you, pilot, the world is still flat and the sun revolves around the earth.

The real point was that people say EvE is dying all the time. They said it long before we hit the current record. And the one before that also. All numbers are troll numbers when you can just look at the chart and see that its obvious that the number of pilots online have declined but not nearly enough to kill the game. Or its spirit for that matter. Or in a manner contradictory to other downturns. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

Eve is dying.
Confirming that 2 data points on a line of hundreds indicates a trend.
And while we're at it, confirming that one bad day of invention means the invention mechanic is broken and one bad loot drop from a plex means plex loot tables are broken.
I'm not going to claim that Eve is dying, but please, this is absurd. The online numbers have declined. The 60 day moving average based on Chribba's all time data peaked at about 35,000 in February and is now under 30,000. Compared to the 60 day moving average at 7/1 last year (32,500 or so) the moving average at the same point this year (29,500) is down by 9%.
Also note that the decline from February to today (16%) is a larger decline in percentage than even Unholy Rage (13.6%).
Year over year Eve is down. Eve has also suffered a larger percentage decline in online users since February than it has ever suffered in its history. I could publish pretty graphs and all, but I cba. The data is available by viewing the source of the tranquility stats page on eve-offline.net. There's a chart builder with all of the data in XML format right in the source of the page. Copy > paste > parse > excel > chart.
Also of interest is that the decline started in February and didn't seem to be accelerated by Incarna in the slightest. I've done the quant. If someone wants to do the qualitative research and figure out why it declined, they're more than welcome to do so.
