Edited by: Souverainiste on 26/08/2011 10:20:43 Edited by: Souverainiste on 26/08/2011 10:19:54 So I bought my TRACKIR 5 yesterday and played some Arma 2 with it, and I must say it is completely amazing while flying air vehicules.
What if we could do the same in eve? Looking left and right, up and down only by moving your head? Of course the HUD would not be moving, so you could still click buttong while having free look (as it is, you need to use your mouse to rotate camera and THEN activate your stuff, unless you can click and bash f1-8 like a boss). Of course you have the choice not to move the camera but its up to the player really.
So my suggestion wouldnt give TRACKIR players an advantage, but would make the game more immersive (same way as 3D does, for example) by allowing you to look around and zoom without having to click on any button. If it is too complex to implement in game, sorry for the suggestion.
If it IS possible, would it be worth investing some time? I think its a good first step for incarna, as you will be allowed to walk past spaceships and move your head freely while walking.
A video of the TRACKIR 5, greatly done: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wXx3vMy_AQ Ingame demo later in the video, just skip to it.
Best regards.

My thoughts are that TrackIR is really fine... for first person shooters, first person flight sims, first person anything...
But eve is with a 3rd person perspective, so I think trackIR is not really needed, and could be a pain instead.
I may be wrong, but I don't see the point in trackIR for eve online. It will not be more immersive, as you see your ship from a 3rd person point of view.

Yes Malcom, but all the axis are covered, you can Zoom with your head, and look in all directions. Any more thoughts?

Edited by: Malcolm Slayton on 26/08/2011 10:55:24 Oh just what I said is that I don't think it is useful ^^ A question about zooming, it also means that you have to push your head ahead to zoom, so you cannot be well put in your chair while playing? ;)
I guess it depends on the play style then... I'm a miner, so I relax in my chair while I mine, sometimes I read a book or look at the in game browser, and then I do not want my view to change when I move my head...
I understand how trackIR can be wonderful in a flight sim, for instance. Just that it is not my cup of tea for a third person slow paced space sim. But this is just me, I may be wrong, and perhaps some will love trackIR in eve.
Don't know if you played Jumpgate, but I guess trackIR would have been wonderful in a game like Jumpgate ;)
Perhaps this is because as well I play on a triple screen setup, so I still have a good FOV.
btw there are no tool on the internet to use trackIR for any game? I know that some games without trackIR support can be used with trackIR by using trackIR as the "mouse look" feature for instance...

Edited by: Ya Rayah Panala on 26/08/2011 11:05:03 Will look for the games as soon as I'm back from college.
BAsically, as soon as you take the sensor off (can be clipped to your headset or on a hat (will post pics tonight), the IR turns off, so if you dont have any point on reference on you (lightweight and you dont even feel it) it stops working, so when you mine you can turn it off anytime (the program works on the background while playing, so if you dont boot it, it wont turn on period. Also, it can be resetted anytime (the zoom setting), so you can be 2 or 5 feet from the screen and it will work. Only move your head a couple of inches and it will zoom according to how much you move your head.
Woops, posted with wrong toon, its Souv.

eve online once upon a time supported track ir. It's no longer the case however. It's great for fps's, flight sims, and driving games, but it would be (and was) worthless in eve.

Confirming that ArmA 2 is awesome! As is TrackIR. Using T-IR in EvE would be cool.
If you wanna hit me up for some ArmA on a good server then send me a mail in EvE. NO BOOBIES LEFT BEHIND! |

In space? Maybe it's possible to "attach" right-click drag to the TrackIR.
In CQ/Station, tho, it gets obvious. |

yea. Hold right-click down and drag. You can pan the camera like that.

Edited by: Vertisce Soritenshi on 29/08/2011 13:32:20 I have Track-IR and there is some software you can use to make it work in just about any game that has x,y,z axis. Unfortunately it just doesn't seem to work in EvE no matter how much I try. Frustrating...
BTW if you haven't tried the A.C.E. Mod in ArmA yet...you should...frankly I found it to be better than PR...at least based on the features alone. Complete verdict is still out waiting on the final release of PR for ArmA.
Oh and on that topic another must have for ArmA is SixUpdater. NO BOOBIES LEFT BEHIND! |

Yes well I heard about ACE, but with PR coming out, I dont really have the motivation to install both, stream is installed on my 150 gb HD to maximize performance so I can't afford to to download too many mods :p and am too lazy to swap steam to the 2TB HD.

ACE isn't all that big. None of the mods are for that matter. I run all my games on a 150 gb drive. You could easily use both ACE and PR and only load the mod you want when you want. Thats what SixUpdater is for. It will allow you to choose the server you want to play on and then automatically update your client with the exact mods that server is running with the exact versions and then launch the game into that server. It is a godsend for a game like ArmA where you have 10 million mods with 10 thousand servers and god knows how many combinations of mods on each one. NO BOOBIES LEFT BEHIND! |
