I know you have a lot of well paid people wearing suits and holding very smart degrees in their fields of study.
I want CCP to succeed. CCP's success is my success.
So, let's talk AURUM. How do we sell it? Who do we market to?
I understand all the logic behind the clothing store. That said, this seems to be a case of CCP patronizing the customers they want instead of the customers they have (and as many have so astutely pointed out, this is likely due to the development beside Emo Vampires)
We have an entire game already established where we can sell vanity (SHIPS!!!), however it seems the focus is on clothing and WiS.
I know we will have different types of ships that will be nothing but vanity paintjobs however the prices as they've been described will be cost prohibitive (think monocle).
If CCP wants to MAKE MORE MONEY why are they determined to go about it the worst way possible?
Would you rather sell 1 sprocket for $500? or Would you rather sell 500 sprockets for $10?
CCP seems to be choosing the first for the only vanity item most people I know would really like to have: a new paint job on their ship. Is this stupid or what? I get having a super high cost item, a status symbol for people to buy for lols and social recognition.... but why wouldn't you load this store up with other paint jobs that are cheap, attractive and would sell like hot cakes???
Give us Jet Black Hurricanes Give us Sport Yellow Rifters Give us a Crimson tempest with a skull and crossbones on the 'sails' Give us HotRod (flames on the front) Megathrons Give us EoM Amarr paintjobs
Sell these things for a reasonable cost ($10? $5?) and have them blow up with the ship and viola! I predict you will be rolling in the isk.... and your playerbase that embraces the FiS aspect of the game (most of us) will be more likely to embrace the AURUM market and the other products that can be found there.
(also, sell them by getting them on the market. What is the hold up on making new ingame items? Especially things that are strictly re-skins??? CCP has been absolutely terrible on efficiency of development for small changes. I remember the Naglfer discussion "it would take 2 years for us to put another gun turret on the ship".... you have a gold mine under your feet but you seem to have given the only pickaxe you have to the slow fat guy that sneaks off for naps when your not looking.)

The Noble Exchange was not designed to cater to your plebian needs.
It is for those of us who can afford the finer things in life and have the culture and breeding to fully enjoy them.
I quite enjoy perusing the Nex store with my magnificent monocle while drinking my $40 bottle of water from http://www.blingh2o.com/index.html.
CCP do not care about your paltry donations. They are providing a service to those that deserve it.

People buy a Lexus rather than a Toyota because its a Lexus. Knowing something you own is a expensive is pretty much the entire thrill of having it.
Know a Mac user? That pretty much.

But Toyota sells more Toyota brand vehicles than it does Lexus....
I know why people buy stupidly expensive stuff. The point of my post was, CCP should be cranking out lesser price/high demand stuff like sexy paintjobs that will gain them much more money in the long run.

They wanted to include this, but the mechanic to trade in hulls of standard ships in the NEX store to be painted (as to not generating these ships out of thin air, but rather actually paint them, at least on an economic level) was not ready upon NEX store launch. Players did not take kindly to thin air conjuring of painted ships and the feature was postponed until the trade-in feature was done. Afaik CCP still plans to introduce this when done.

No, it's not for you either. In fact, it's not for players at all.
The NeX is for CCP and CCP alone. They are in need of something that reduces the liabilities of the vast PLEX stockpiles that exist in the game, and the NeX is the vehicle to do that. If players get anything out of it in the process, then that's just a lucky coincidence/by-product. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡ you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki

Which this doesn't make sense to me.. Since their recent promotion of Plex for buddy invite completely contradicts that.

I actually think they'd make more money if they don't blow up, because:
1) More people would buy something they know they cant lose
2) If you lose a vanity item, you're probably going to decide that you've had your "fun" with it, and that there is no need to buy another.
Personally, I couldn't give a **** if a vanity item blows up or not. Just my two cents. |

I'll go a long way to argue in favour of CCP and what they are doing, and I share little if any of the drama we've seen since (and before) Incarna. But as far as I can tell, they took the concept of an in-game item store, stripped it of everything that made it interesting for the existing playerbase, and made the rest as unappealing as possible. As long as WiS is limited the solo-play captains quarters, the NeX store serves no other purpose than a 10,20,60-dollar wallpaper.
What would I like to see in the store? + full re-customizations for my character + neural remaps on top of the free one everyone gets each year + titles, second names, stuff that affects the name of my character without making him incognito + extra slots for saved fittings + a special camera drone that gives me more options for cool screenshots in space + new stuff to watch on my CQ-TV-screen, or even a remote and media-player to influence it directly + of course, everyone's favourite, ship paint jobs. Different colours, corp/alliance logo applications, etc. + and, yes, special stuff for my avatar. For those who care.
all of that, obviously, at micro-transaction prices, so at 2 dollars a pop, not 10, and definitely not 50. Especially not if stuff is destructible, which it probably should be because, well, this is EVE where things go 'splode. |

This defies the whole "It's Just ISK" mentality... that CCP is trying to push forward.
If it's just ISK, then people will expect it to be treated like all other ISK items.

Frankly, I don't care about what should be selling in the NeX.
I stick to the sandbox nature that everything should be created by players for players. Make things appear using real money breaks the most beautiful rule and feature of EVE Online.
All kind of industrials and scientist of this game build titanic ships, investigate ancient technology, extract resources from planets across the galaxy, why they wouldn't design a simple paintjob? Or weave a shirt?
Just pure greed.
