Money that is better spent on a Harby or Cane.

I already have it and want to use them to train some pvp or die trying....but with a good fitting at least.

Ferox benefits from Neutrons - optimal range bonuses really do help when you're using blasters, and so too, fitting the longest range ones.
Likewise - and I daresay I might pick up some flaming for suggesting this - void ammo. You see, void has a longer optimal than antimatter - which doesn't help much, as it loses falloff, but I'm of the opinion that's a solid tradeoff when you've an optimal bonus.
Like so: [Ferox, Berox] Reactor Control Unit II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive Warp Scrambler II Stasis Webifier II Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Large Shield Extender II

Medium Core Defence Field Extender I Medium Core Defence Field Extender I Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
Warrior II x5
5.3 + 3.1km optimal with your void, quite nicely dovetails with your scramble range. And for 617dps, which really isn't too sloppy, on a ship that 'everyone' assumes is a turkey.
EHP isn't particularly amazing, granted, but it's tough enough to be a nasty surprise, with that regen at least.

Edited by: Koronos on 29/08/2011 06:12:08 Sell it and buy a drake. Seriously. There's a reason why 95% of eve flies or has flown a drake at some point. It's not because they are the greatest thing ever, it's just because they are better than everything else at there level/pricepoint/role on average... harbingers and hurricanes excepted for narrower roles.
The ferox used to rock before tier 2 bcs and before they changed it. And certainly there is an endearing quality for the hopeless hybrid-gun pilot who either came back to the game from when blastathrons owned or just wants to be a little bit different, but hybrid guns suck all kinds of ass now.
Believe it or not, there are many ships, in fact entire classes of ships, that are effectively irrelevant due to being outclassed in every conceivable role by something else. Ferox is one of them.
If anything, if you have to fly it you want to take the neutron blaster suggestion to eke every last bit out of that range but it will still be terrible.
And believe me I am not happy to be the bearer of these tidings given that my alliance name's history originated from a pilot flying a ferox like 5+ years ago.
edit: I take it back, there is one role for the ferox, which is similar to the role for the cyclone - namely owning people in low sec who underestimate you. James Lyrus' (who knows what he is talking about) setup will work for that role.

Well, yes. The Ferox is pretty much in all ways outclassed by the Drake. It's sole redeeming feature is that it's not as bad as 'everyone' tends to assume - which can be used to your advantage, when picking fights.
Once upon a time, this was true of the Drake - it's a ship that's not really changed since it was first introduced, but it had a rep as a 'lol noobs, flying drakes'. So it meant lots of people would pick fights and then be really horribly surprised when you scrammed, webbed and put 600dps up their tailpipe.
Ferox is a similar sort of situation. Except it's reputation as 'not very good' is deserved. It's just not _as_ 'not very good' as most pilots assume.
This is surprisingly useful in Pvp - face a Drake, and nowadays at least, everyone knows what they're facing, and will tend to make their fight or flight decision accordingly. Face a Ferox, and more people will assume that you're a 'lol-noob' and go for the kill anyway.

LAZ0R FEROX! I have flow it because I <3 laz0rs and shields and sansha ships are expensive. Its ok (just like most ferox fits) it EAT cap though...HAM/Neut ferox is also fun and unexpected...AC ferox probably works best. DPS Blaster ferox can make good use of the optimal with Null but ... meh

450 (on paper) DPS, damage type selection, 58k EHP, and once you're in scram range and your MWD is off, the medium neut permaruns. If you're being kited then Barrage might help drive off an attacker. It's a bit slow and clunky but so are all Caldari boats. You can swap one LSE for an Invuln for a tiny bit more EHP.

or
in a gang with Shield RR as it has plenty of cpu to fit it without nerfing its already so so dmg as well as fitting a mean local tank...
a gang of 5-6 feroxes really attract a whole lota fights because they are 'easy targets' but who suspects the mean ass spider tank when it activates?
wait a second wait a second...wtf just happened my new clone? AM I FREAKIN MIDGET? |
