15 minutes later, I saw my first combat. In my rookie ship heading for my first jump gate. A guy in a real frigate locked me, so I locked him right back. I turned towards him and full power to engines. He fired, oh flashy red, what the heck is going on!! I fired my little starter gun and he exploded!!! I remembered thinking, wow weapons are really powerful in this game he must have missed. LOL, took me a couple of days to realize Concord got him. But I was hooked on EVE from that moment.
I remember my first Corp War. Outnumbered 3 to 1, out gunned, out skilled but I singly handed ended the war with out firing a shot. All of my Corp mates were in the euro time zone so I used my solo time to book mark the snoot out of the hostile corp home system. Next day just my mere presence, and I guess the Geddon helped a bit too, I locked them in the station and prevented them from mining, traveling, having fun. Next day I log on and the war is over. But I was hooked on EVE from that moment.
I remember the first time I lost a ship to another player. Birdog was his name in a Caldari Battleship in low sec space. He locked me, I figured I could take a torp hit or two and make it to the station. I was wrong!!! I remember being so mad, I used all my isk and put a bounty on him!!!! I was so stupid!!! But I was hooked on EVE from that moment.
I remember seeing the 3 year old players in Battleships doing missions, back in the day all missions happened right out in the open by jump gates, stations, etc., and deciding in 2 years I was going to be just like them and trained my heart out. I made a commitment to EVE and was hooked from that moment.
I remember going on 0.0 roams in interceptors, blowing through the gate camps, trying to decided what loot to take back. I was so hooked on EVE.
Over 5 years later, today the game I once so loved has became a stranger to me. With the coming of the latest update and the nex store, I made a commitment to vote with my feet and cancel my accounts, 2 accounts 209 million experience. That time comes in a little over 5 days.
I would like to thank the following:
Sergio Montoya my mentor and friend who so helped me learn the game mechanics and profit. Maric Abair the CEO of my first corp and friend who gave me a home for 1.5 years. Zippy Pinno friend and I am still sorry about the testing weapons incident. BrotherGrim who pushed me out into 0.0 living for a time.
Good bye all, Friends, Enemies, and the occasional in the wrong place at the wrong time, I salute you all.

Its sad to see veteran players leave the game, its even sadder to see them leave over something meaningless like the vanity store given it has zero actual impact on the game. Of all the reasons to leave thats not a very good one. That said I stand by my **** NEX salute. Shut the **** down already.

I remember eve back in the day. What fun times.
All the cool stuff the devs kept talking about like faction war and all the other pvp goodies to come.
Then fast forward to 2011 and the new microtransaction based carebearification of eve and your prison cell captains quarters.

Oh you're SO wrong, the vanity store has had a huge impact. It's a costly investment that represents a massive lost opportunity to invest in things that matter in EVE.

Your point will be valid when they start letting you buy in-game advantage through the Nex store. Until then it hasn't impacted the way I play my game whatsoever and to that end, I have to disagree with you.
If the point you're making is that they could have done more with the time they spent on it, then fair-do's but it hasn't sent the gameplay backwards, it has just prevented it from going forwards.
(I don't see the CQ as affecting my gameplay in any way that bothers me too much, it's just a nuisance, the same as many other aspects of the game - that's just my opinion and I know many disagree).
To the OP. I've come close to quitting many times, but while I can still make enough isk to get PLEX, I'll stay in the game - too much time invested and too many friends made to quit because of a bad phase in game development. Hope it changes enough to make you want to come back. |

Sounds like you had a lot of good beginners luck. :) I guess it was not always so though. Getting dreams shot or upgraded out from under you over and over kinda sucks. I understand your frustration and sense of loss my friend. I myself feel very similarly.
I feel as if the game has become all about ccp and their profit. To be fair, a company must be profitable, but not at the expense of belittling their player base. Do you see a beer company selling a brew that is 2$ a can and telling you will enjoy it better if you open it with a 50$ opener?
This is so sad. From one pilot to another i will miss you. Good luck. And I hope one day we will see you again. |

I agree with the OP, I canceled 2 of my accounts over this. One interesting flip-side to a game where having multiple accounts is so prevalent is that it's pretty easy to scale back the number of accounts one has if you aren't quite ready to quit completely.

Yep, it was awesome when you could ninja loot without scanning.
There was one insane mission that was about 150km off a gate - and if you pulled the npcs then they'd lock and pop any player in range.
Was pretty "wtf" first time you saw it, but an ancient char of mine pulled the BS npcs to within 50km of the gate
I sort of suspect that's really why they stopped it
Edit - and that was about two hops from Yulai when that was "Jita". NPC suicide ganking 4tw?
Edit2 - admittedly the little sods (npcs) never shot the "right" target as far as loot went but meh was fun anyway. I don't think you could recyle that mission in the same spot though.

I think its less to do with the NEX store itself than the direction EVE's devs are taking it, everyone who has quit an alt or all their accounts each have their own unique reason or twist of reason in why they did it imho. Theres no real way of summing up every single 'nex quitter' due to the unique shift of perspective from each player.
Personally, i'm less worried than I was to start with about the last patch contents or 'lack of' as it were, and even the direction or tactics of CCP, and more preoccupied with finding a replacement electronic hobby. EVE will do until something better comes along. :)

Eve still has the biggest potential of all (space)MMORPG's, they way they keep updating their game keeps amazing me. Just look at eve 7years ago, the game massively changed for the better. It's weird to see that people loose trust in CCP all out of sudden just because they add some NEX store. (They think that the general direction is going the wrong way)
Still, all of that doesn't remove ANYTHING from the game that I love, I just don't understand how it does for all those angry people.
Sure, CQ is a bit of a disapointment as is, but I'm sure it'll be awesome when they release the full thing. And I personally think that it will be great for eve in the future, it will just apeal to a larger public. Which is good, it'll bring more people to the game for me to blow up. (Or for 'carebears' to compete with/sell stuff to)
Also, the cross-platform thing that's coming up is quite revolutionary. I'm just really exited about what the future holds. And I don't find myself a CCP fanboy, I see damn well what they can do better and aprove on etc. -----------------------------------------------

My subscription expires Sunday, Aug 28, at 2:54. This game was such a rush at the beginning, and I was fascinated in the extreme. I would play so long transfixed to what I was doing I'd later wake up with my eyelids literally stuck to my eyes as they dried out staring at the screen.
My eyes would burn terribly but I would slowly heal and be back at it. I learned to get expensive eyedrops and protect my peepers from laser/explosion overexposure.
I, too, feel Eve and CCP is changed for the worse and I, too, vote with my wallet to leave. The forums have been invaluable in providing wisdom and information, and I give my heartfelt thanks to all who have answered my queries and endured some of my more sarcastic moments.
Goodbye all, and I recommend Refresh Liquigel for those late nights missioning.

This is a really good post. No vitriol. No demands. No insults, but the truth of it is an indictment to which game developers who have gone corporate can only pretend to be oblivious, and they will.
In a sense it's a farewell to an era when true gamers and true game designers engaged in an intellectual clash of historic proportions. Alas and alack, only to be rained upon by the profiteering logic of the inscrutable corporate mentality.
The passing of purity. It's worth a moment to shed a tear and recall...those who are old enough to remember...
Please wait as this sig- nature finishes loading

not if he leaves "because of NEX". I really not believe people with 6 years of game experience left just because of 1 so little thing. He simply got bored and found "nice and loud reason to leave".
I can make thread "2 years old account is unsubbing because of jump bridge nerf". Will you say that this is good reason?
