I am going to be running some missions on my main character and will be tagging my alt along for salvage and collect loot. I was also thinking of training my alt in datacore skills and thus I have a few questions around this.
1. Can I run 'combat' missions (security departments) with my main and my alt fleeted (and tagging along) to improve my alts standing with the R&D chaps of the same Corp? 2. Can I store Research Points whilst I am learning all the relevant skills? 3. Assuming I can do no.1 is there anything to be gained by training social skills on my alt or will those skills only be beneficial to the pilot that takes the mission?
*edit*
Can't work this damn numbering thing out.

1) Yes, but if the alt isn't going to actively help you then just leave them in the station. 2) Store them, no.... But you can start researching with an agent as soon as they let you and as your skills get better so does the reward/day. 3) The isk and lp skills are only for the person that actually gets the mission but the standing % skills are for anyone receiving standing gains.
As a tip, once your alt can access a certain level of agents - use said alt to get the missions. Stick them in as squad commander and then just warp your main to the mission, after 16 missions the alt gets a nice storyline and a very nice standings boost. This way the alt can also not share the mission rewards and so gain standings a bit faster. |

Thanks for the reply Sphynix,
May I ask a question on the quote above.
The 16 missions you refer to, are these the courier ones that I am reading about or are these combat missions that I will be doing in order to boost standings for my alt?
ALso. I want to make sure I am readging this correctly. By using the alt to get the missions but only sending the main, the alt ONLY gets the standings?
If that is the case, aren't i doing something opposite to gain him standings in the first place? ie, using main to take combat missions to boost alt standing.......
God.......... I know what I wanted to ask and I have confused myself.

Any mission. Combat. Courier. Mining. They all add to the storyline counter for that faction.

Yes, unless the alt chooses to split the standings when turning-in the mission.

Use the main to get missions and split the reward until the alt has enough standing to speak to the agent himself.

the social skill lvl only counts for the toon taking the mission. social lvl of the alt who gets shared rewards doesn't matter

He will also get the LP and the actual mission reward (iskies). This (and the standings gain) can be split up with other members of the fleet at the moment of turning in the mission.
The pilot doing the shooting will get the bounties, if applicable.

Thank you all for the great responses..... its really helped me understand!
Though...... and I am sure you knew this was coming..... I have a few more questions.
A) Bearing in mind that I really dont want to run 'courier' missions, will/should I collect missions with my alt when he is ready in the COMBAT department until his level is sufficient to work with teh R&D chaps?
B) I assume that I am offered a choice when completing missions with my alt that my main carried out?
C) If it works out well, I plan to drag my alt along on the missions to salvage (though I think farming missions will be better). Assuming I do this, does it mess with anything?

For sake of clarity
Combat pilot - Can run lvl 4 combat missions Rookie pilot - wants the corp standing. Goal is 5.0 corp standing to get them juicy datacores.
Can combat pilot run lvl 4 combat missions with target corp? If yes - you do that and share standing increase. Note that by the time your Rookie pilot can accept lvl 4 combat missions he will no longer need a corp standing increase as he already accesses the research agents as well.
As an alternative - you can have your rookie pilot grind up standing up to 3.0 which gives access to lvl 3 agents and switch to accepting lvl 3 missions with the rookie pilot. Some claim this is more efficient, but the fact that you are managing two pilots in a fleet (your rookie pilot will need to at least initiate warp to the combat zone for your combat pilot) makes it a bit less interesting than when you have a single pilot raising standings and blitzing lvl 3 missions.
The other alternative is courier missions but since those got nerfed I don't particularly recommend them for corp standings (still pretty good for faction standings though).
Whatever you do with your Rookie pilot during or after your combat pilot runs the actual combat site has no bearing on the mission outcome, just check how much time it takes you and see if it's worth your while.
TL;DR; - time to stop chatting and get on with it

Negotiation skill will increase RP per day, so there's a social skill worth training on the alt.

Keep in mind that the alt will be getting Agent standing as well as corp standing. This will allow him to access an agent faster than you might think, if the mission runner sticks with one agent.

And agent standing seems to increase faster than corp standing. I just noticed that after 5 missions, the alts standing with the research corp went from 2.09 to 2.45 while the standing with agent went from 1.52 to 2.51.
So if you grind one agent, the alt will get access to the L4 security agent prior to getting access to the rest of the L4 agents, e. g. research agents
