I started out learning Perl so I could make tools for my industry toon. I will never share that stuff, as it would be extremely counter-productive. However, I started messing around making ISK/hour calculators and I must say, they are quite simple and quite helpful.
However not many people use Perl in Windows, or for anything Eve related. My question is, should I even bother posting Perl scripts in this forum or should I just continue to keep it under my hat? . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

So you say you will never share your scripts then ask if they would be used if you post them, which is it?

No, I'm sorry for being ambiguous. I wont share the Industry ones. I will share the missioning ones and wormhole ones, possibly complexes if people ask for it, and eventually incursions. Only the industry/market related stuff shall I horde. There are already a gazillion apps for that stuff. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

Edited by: Callean Drevus on 28/08/2011 01:09:41 True enough :) There are already a gazillion apps for industry. At least you won't hear me complaining if there's less competition (if you'd want to call it that).
I have to admit I probably wouldn't use anything in Perl though.
Oh, and: Horde n. A large group or crowd; a swarm: a horde of mosquitoes. See synonyms at crowd1. A nomadic Mongol tribe. A nomadic tribe or group.
Hoard n. A hidden fund or supply stored for future use; a cache.
v.tr. To accumulate a hoard of. To keep hidden or private.
You probably know already and just have misspelled it, but in this context I somehow found it extremely funny :) --- "A fool flatters himself, a wise man flatters the fool."

I'd suggest learning something like PHP, Java, or even Python as Perl is largely being replaced by all of them because they are all easier too understand and maintain for several reasons. Most Perl examples seem to have the authors trying to show off how many cryptic things they can use vs most of the others were most are written to be very clear clean code that is easy to reuse and modify. Perl just doesn't seem to work as well for OO designs which if you're doing much more than a couple simple web pages you'll want to use. Those are just a couple things I found when using Perl that turned me off of it but your experience might be different. -- Finds camping stations from the inside much easier. Perl isn't really for non unix based applications. it is used heavily in industry. I don't know why people use it at all (outside of that) tbh? I just got familiar with it at my job a while ago. Eventually I will learn python for AV, but for now i was just seeing if anyone used/needed some perl scripts. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.
