Either shield or armor skills are about onpar. Still cant use t2 torp launchers but training in that direction.
Whats a better dps machine, Armor or Shield tanks?
I prefer armor resists over plates as it will be used for running lvl 4s. I will be dual boxing with a maxed skill tengu or a sicksauce Domi.
I would also prefer to use t2 instead of faction or deadspace modules, but if that cald navy ballistic is a better fit by all means post it up.

Have you done any research at all?
Torps are terrible for things smaller than a space station. And Torps don't go very far at all. The only reason the Golem can do Torps halfway decently is because of the laser pointer bonus.
Regarding highest DPS, shield vs armor. Shield modules go in mid slots. Armor modules go in low slots. Utility modules go in mid slots. Damage bonus modules go in the low slots. The answer here is obvious as to which one does more damage.
Your DPS will look nice, on paper. Your real DPS will be lackluster. I suggest that you not make a Torpedo Typhoon. . |

Yes ive done research but not with much luck. As you state it seems like its not a very good option. Everything ive seen is cruise phoons with armor tanks.
I asked about the shield vs armor because armor tank is low slots and the bcus are a low slot modules, if I were to load the lows with bcus I wouldnt have room for resist modules. Thats why i wonder if a armor tank or shield tank for a missile chucker phoon, which would be a better option. Ill just EFT it and see what happens with skills applied.
I just hate to see it on paper, just wondering if anyone had any experience with it. . .

Edited by: Exploited Engineer on 28/08/2011 06:59:48 If you really want to use torps and don't have another ship doing (bonused) target painting for you, I would suggest using an armor tank (you'll only need 3 BCUs, that leaves 4 slots for tanking modules) and at least two target painters in the mids (preferably Republic Fleet ones) and of course an afterburner or a MWD.
However, without a missile range bonus on the ship, you'll be stuck with an excruciatingly short range (<30km for regular torpedoes and ~40km for T2 javelins).
Torp typhoons are probably better for PvP than for PvE, where damage projection beats paper dps in many cases. 50% more paper DPS are worthless if a) you spend most of your time not firing since the target is out of range and b) if you do 100% of those paper dps only on select targets (slow-moving BSs) while you only do a fraction to everything else (cruisers, BCs, frigs, etc).

Kesshisan's answer to this is right there in the second to last paragraph. It's a good one too.
The typhoon on the whole is a challenge to compare with the other minmatar battleships for PVE - depends a lot of skills and the mission. A torp typhoon, as others have said, will have crappy damage in-game. Highly suggest you stick with a Pest or Mael for PVE unless you're just looking for something to play around with. Test server is a great place to prove a concept by the way.

typhoons are better for pvp, where their flexibility, high mobility and multiple possible good hislot combinations makes it a beast.
pve, get a tempest. it's better. ---

If you are really on using torps in pve, you might as well think about cross-training to caldari and jump into a Navy Scorpion. The hull is more expensive than a typhoon, and it's not a golem, but you can make a decent torp boat with all the midslots (enough for 2 target painters, and 4 BCUs in the lows). Granted torps are not the best choise in pve. But then again, I love their visual effect too
PS: Did I mention the scorp looks ace as well ?
