Edited by: Khosi on 28/08/2011 22:36:07 Edited by: Khosi on 28/08/2011 22:35:56 Hello, Me and some buddies are trying to start running lvl 5's. I've gotten tasked with being 'the tank', and so I chose a Rattlesnake (because it can do it, and it looks better than everything else that can ;) ) I was wondering if my current fit could be altered to do lvl 4's, when I'm playing by myself.
Currently I have:
4x Caldari Navy Cruise Missile Launcher 2x Drone Link Augmentor
1x Large Shield Extender II 1x Shield Recharger II 2x Pithum A-Type Hardeners (missions specific primary) 2x Pithum A-Type Hardeners (missions specific secondary) 1x Omni-Directional Tracking Link
6x Shield Power Relay II
3x Large Core defence field purger II
As you can see, it's pretty cookie-cutter for a lvl5 rattler. I may swap the tracking link for another hardener if I need it. My question is, how can I change this fit for doing lvl 4's without changing the rigs? It doesn't need to be massive dps, but I don't want to be sitting there all day one mission, obviously.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hmmm, I'll take a crack at it...

Ballistic Deflection Field II Ballistic Deflection Field II Large Shield Extender II Parallel Weapon Navigation Transmitter Parallel Weapon Navigation Transmitter Omnidirectional Tracking Link I Omnidirectional Tracking Link I

Large Core Defence Field Purger II Large Core Defence Field Purger II Large Core Defence Field Purger II
Garde II x5
As with any good mission ship, gank is stressed far more than tank. At all lvl 5 - tanks 601 vs Guristas (more than enough for pretty much any level 4) and pulls 709 fairly applicable dps. Options - drop one of the painters for a third hardener or drop the T2 BCS for a third SPR (would recommend the second option before the first). There's really only a rare level 4 that will require you to do either of these, though.
One last thought - if you don't have high drone skills, I'd just suggest you grab a CNR and call it a day. Otherwise this thing really isn't going to produce.

Edited by: Sader Rykane on 28/08/2011 23:14:56 You do realize that the main reasoning for using a Rattlesnake in level 5's is that the tank is Passive right?
Good luck running those hardeners when you're nueted to death.

That was actually a typo on my part. Meant to put amplifiers instead of hardeners, the tank is fully passive. Sorry about that.

I may end up doing that, actually. My drones skills are actually pretty decent. I'm gonna try your fit out, and if isn't cutting quite cutting it, I'll look into a CNR.
Thanks for the advice.

No worries, and best of luck.

since avoiding sentry drone augmenter rig....
open to skillwires? One of the few tweaks you have as an option is missile implants. Cruise damage, rof (all systems, real useful out of the rattler), round out rest of slots with boosts to say explosion velocity and such to taste. Since for your level 4's in empire....make a jc and put them in that one. You and your boys go out to lol sec for 5's....run the cheaper non-skillwired clone if worried about implants going boom in poddings on level 5 runs.
Some good boosts in those missile skill wires. My tengu pilot has em, almost night and day between the pimp clone and a "normal" clone.
Except for the cruise missile implant (in my case HML damage implant) rest of them hardwires are universal (well universal for guided, not sure about torps/rockets for some tbh, read before you buy as always). I get the idea to hawk or kestrel a lower level mission string for standings grind...makes for fun times.

Edited by: Aamrr on 29/08/2011 01:01:33 Shield rechargers are really trash. Even on a buffer as large as a rattlesnake, a second LSE2 will give you a slightly stronger passive tank. The added buffer is just gravy.
That said, you really should consider a sentry damage augmentor rig. A rattlesnake has 350 calibration -- just enough for a T1 sentry augmentor and two purgers. 20% more DPS is nothing to sneeze at, even if it is only your drone damage. It actually adds more DPS than your first ballistic control, much less your third. The fact that it'll save you about 300 million isk on a T2 purger rig is, again, gravy.
Edit: There's also a faction omnidirectional tracking link you might consider looking into.

I appreciate your advice, but I'm not quite sure I agree with you. recharger II's give a 15% bonus to recharge time, and since a second LSE will increase my overall shield HP by <15%, you actually gain more hp/s by having the recharger. EFT can confirm this, unless there is something I don't understand.
Thanks for telling me about the rigs, I don't want to get rid of them though. Like I said, the goal was to not change them.
I've actually decided to take Captain Hindsite's advice and just look into getting a CNR or some other lvl4 ship, and keep the rattler in the hangar for lvl5's only. My research throughout the day has lead me to believe that's probably the smartest thing to do in the long run.

Excuse me, I was mistaken. The shield recharger will regenerate 0.5% more hp/s*, at the cost of about 15% of your shield hit points. I'm personally of the opinion that in any event where this would actually be significant, the extra hit points would serve you better -- if only to prevent you from getting volleyed past peak recharge.
Regarding rigs: Fair enough. You could try selling your rattlesnake on contract and get some of the price back for that third rig, but it might be more trouble than it's worth. If it were me, I'd probably just rip it out. No point in spending 270 mil for a set of ballistic controls when I could get ~8% more DPS by swapping a rig.
*For how this number was derived: Base Rattlesnake Shield HP = 12750 Large Shield Extender II HP Bonus = 2625 Shield Extender Bonus = (12750+2625*2)/(12750+2625) Shield Recharger Bonus = 1/.85 Marginal gain = recharger/extender = (12750+2625)/(.85*(12750+2625*2))

IGNORE THIS GUY^^^
you have the fit pretty well but be aware that a rattle still cant solo tank most missions and it is always good to have a backup plan you will almost certainly need it ... also for some missions nighthawk works as well and is cheap to throw one together and t2 rigged and properly fit it can tank like a madman cuz of its natural resists so id advice getting one of each

Was anything I said above inaccurate? If you want to contest a specific point I can reply to that, but there's not much I can say when you just tell people to ignore me.
