Hi there. I would like an advise in regards of missioning. I can use both T2 large and medium projectiles.
I dont have standings for lvl 4 missions yet.
Is caldary navy a good faction to do missions in in a minmatar vessel?
Also, what would be better to do the missions in, a machariel or a sleipnir?
I'm more specialized in command ships with both proj spec at V and CS V, while T2 large proj is at IV.
Thank you

I love my Sleipnir, but the Mach does almost everything down the line better. There are the obvious things (range, damage, drone bay), the less obvious things (locking range, # of targets locked), and the absurd things (Mach is faster and more agile). Sleip wins on burst tank I guess. It also locks ever so slightly faster.
Bottom line, Mach wins for L4s. Sleip will rip L3s a new one though....
Personally I wouldn't mission in Caldari space. Guristas are a pain in the ass and are weakest to the one damage type projectiles can't specifically cater to (though PP still works fine and Barrage remains a viable option). But it's not a poor choice per se, just one I wouldn't make.

The Sleipnir is an amazing ship, but not for missioning. Missions will frequently have ships spawning anywhere from 40-80km out, and the Sleipnir gets only about 30km of falloff with its high damage ammunition (45km with Barrage).
The Machariel, on the other hand, is an amazing ship and I'm sure you'll find many happy pilots recommending it.
Caldari Navy is generally a poor missioning corporation. It has a bad LP store and there's a lot of competition in it from new players. Worse, many of their agents are in high (1.0, 0.9) security status systems, which degrades your mission payouts. Worse still, they tend to give missions against Guristas, which are weak to the only damage type that projectiles can't readily deal.
Both are good ships, Machariel is better suited for missioning, and you should look at another corporation.

Minmatar should be fine, but due to the kinetic hole in Minmatar T2 ships, the insane falloff and damage of the Machariel, as well as how easy it is to tank, I'm going to have to say it'd be better for Caldari missions.
Now, if you wanted to mission for Amarr Navy...

The Mach is a very, very good ship to grind lv4. Arguably the best.
To give you an idea, I kill things with my Mach about as fast as I did with my tengu. Only my mach has all related skills to 4, and scout guns, while my Tengu was maxed with T2 heavy launchers and T2 ammos. If I were to max the skills and use faction ammos, I'd probably be around 30% faster completing missions, compared to my Tengu.
Still, I'm currently retraining for a Nightmare. I figure that, since I mission in Amarr space, it will be less versatile, but even more effective. ------------------------------------------

I fly a Nightmare and a Tengu, Shadowsword, and I've had the same experience. Even against EoM (a kinetic-weak enemy), I prefer my nightmare simply because it has superior damage output, even at ranges where HMLs should excel.
I wish I had a Machariel for Angels and Mercs, but my Nightmare has been amazing on Bloods, Sanshas, Drones. I just have one question -- since we both agree that the Tengu isn't performing at the level of these faction battleships, what would you use against Guristas?

Against Guristas, I'll use my machariel, loaded with phased plasma. ------------------------------------------

Wouldn't the slightly lesser total damage of Titanium Sabot overcome the resistance to thermal with Phased Plasma? I mean, yes, it is second best, but still.

You would think so, except that all of the enemies weak to kinetic have a secondary thermal weakness, and phased plasma's secondary damage type is kinetic anyway.

Resists on guristas ships aren't streamlined. On some, there's 15 or 20% difference between primary and secondary resist, and on others, they're the same.
But there's still a huge diffference in base damage between phased plasma and titanium (48 vs 32, so 50%), and it more than compensate the damage type even on the worst guristas. ------------------------------------------

You know, it's still probably better than the Tengu but I can't help but feel there's a better option. Guristas tend to stay at range, which mitigates autocannon damage somewhat, and you're forced to use a suboptimal damage type.
I'll probably end up training for the Machariel anyway. I guess I'm just looking for context on how it compares on Guristas vs. (for example) Angels.

There is, and that's the Kronos. That ship will probably receive a boost Soon(tm) when CCP will buff railguns, too. ------------------------------------------

Edited by: Aamrr on 29/08/2011 21:09:42 Maybe, but who wants to salvage guristas? Eww.
Edit: The Vindicator is also an option. It loses the Kronos's active armor tank bonus but does about 10% more DPS. I'd probably end up shield tanking it.

I know the t1 is lackluster, but you'll never catch me leaving a Dread Guristas spawn untouched. Mmmm... Intact Shield Emitters...
Edit for Edit: Yeah, but who wants to buy a Vindicator for missions? That's like buying a sledgehammer to hammer in nails with.
