In an interview Biowares CEO mentioned that although Mass Effect 3 will finish Shepard's story Bioware have "ambitious" plans for more games based on the series.
I wonder how ambitious they plan to be, the ME world is so huge you could make just about any type of game. More RPGs or 3rd shooters would be cool, being a bounty hunter in the Terminus systems could make an interesting plot. New games could maybe even be something a little out of the box like making one based on the Urban Combat Championship sport mentioned in the back story (its a bit like paint balling), or Wipeout style contra gravity racing.
The most obvious thing would be to make an MMO, If Star Wars: The Old Republic is a success I think they will definatly make an ME MMO.

Given the huge amount of related storyline in the books, I'm curious as to whether they will make a game based on Jacob Taylor or Miranda Lawson? It would be pretty interesting if in the next game one could also select SPECIES as well as gender, and make some species-specific powers and stuff?
In other news, I can't wait for ME3. It's gonna be gooooood. Supposedly we'll be able to see the homeworlds of the Asari and Turians as well as what Earth is gonna look like in 2183.

So... am I the only one who, after playing ME1 and ME2, really has no desire to play ME3?

Not like DA:O was too much to my liking at all in the first place. I started it at least 4 times with different character choices (with a few weeks or months in between), played a bit more after getting Sten and the other chick, but not very much longer, bored, dropped, eventually said "screw it" and killed the game off. But yeah, DA2 was utter tripe in comparison, I'll give you that. Also, NEVER PREORDER ANYTHING. The more enticing the pre-order bonuses, the crappier the actual product. Just wait until after it gets some actual peer reviews. Besides, it's not like you can't quite easily unlock ALL preorder bonuses afterwards (not just the ones from whichever retailer hoops you might have bothered to jump through) and revert to the "official" version if you're paranoid about it as soon as you realize they're not really good for much anyway.

Granted, ME2 did feel like one step forwards, two steps sideways and three steps back overall, but from what I understand, ME3 is (allegedly) supposed to be somewhere in bewteen ME1 and ME2 in terms of gameplay//mechanics, and ME2 wasn't *that* bad, plus I liked ME1 (and the game universe in general, the books certainly helped too) enough to not completely dismiss ME2 and soldier through the more unpleasant parts to get to the better ones (of which there were enough). I'm not exactly ecstatic about ME3, if you catch my drift, but I'm pretty sure I'll end up playing it eventually, when//if I'll get some free gaming time later on next year (most likely only after all the DLCs have come out).

You are not alone, my friend. ME1 was alright...ME2, not so alright (more directly, ME2 plane sucked imo)

I've been expecting an MMO since this comment.
They're just practicing with SWTOR. Whether it's a giant hit or not, they'll use what they've learned from it.
