So I'll be able to fly a stealth bomber in a few days. In the mean time, I'm reading up on tactics etc so I can be as ready to go as possible once my training finishes.
So far I've not seen much by way of a comparison between the 4 options though. I'll be starting off in a Manticore because I only have Caldari frigate trained to V right now. It would be a quick train to get into any of the others, but that's time I can put towards something else if its not really necessary.
So, can anyone give a quick rundown on the differences between the different bombers? |

There are two specific points and one general understanding that outline the prowess and popularity of the bombers: damage type, slot allocation and (by relation) invididual fitting issues.
While all ships may not fall into the generalization, it is commonly accepted that EM is the weakest overall resist for a shield fleet, while EX is the weakest overall resist for an armor fleet (usually referred to the amount of ships in a composition with a resistance hole low enough to demand attention).
Secondly, among the four ships, there are two different slot layouts. Considering the overall plentiful amount of midslots in the class, coupled with the inherent fitting issues of the frigate size, the favourable slot layout is the one with the most low slots; allowing a better control over fitting issues - exacerbated by invidivual PG and CPU levels.
Taking all these into account you begin to see some trend to the choice of ship for most common application.
Luckily these things are overshadowed by the specialized nature of the class and the ability of all it's ships to carry out the basic roles - so while there are better choices, there is no distinct good and bad - as seen in some other ship classes.

The Purifier and the Hound have a 5/3/3 slot configuration. They're generally preferred for solo work because of this. The Nemesis and the Manticore have a 5/4/2 configuration. This lets them field additional ewar and generally makes them preferred for fleet environments.
Each bomber gets a 15%/level bonus to their racial damage torpedoes. You always want to use that type of torpedo. They also get a 5% bonus to their racial damage bombs. You want to ignore this and match your bombs to whatever your gang is using.
Regarding damage type: The Hound and Purifier are generally preferred, since both kinetic and thermal are resisted by 3/4 of T2 ships. Thermal and Kinetic are generally interchangeable and will perform adequately on most T1 targets.
Beyond that, there are small variations in mobility and fitting resources. The Nemesis is widely criticized for being too CPU constrained, for example.

More importantly you must decide between an epic shield tank and an afterburner or no tank and a MWD. Personally I love the shield extender version as so:
[Hound, New Setup 1] Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Co-Processor II
Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction 1MN Afterburner II Faint Warp Disruptor I
Siege Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Bane Torpedo [empty high slot] Siege Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Bane Torpedo Covert Ops Cloaking Device II Siege Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Bane Torpedo
Small Bay Loading Accelerator II Small Ancillary Current Router I
Small Bay Loading Accelerator II Small Ancillary Current Router I
[Nemesis, AB shields] Damage Control II Ballistic Control System II
Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters Warp Disruptor II Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Extron
'Arbalest' Siege Missile Launcher, Caldari Navy Inferno Torpedo Covert Ops Cloaking Device II 'Arbalest' Siege Missile Launcher, Caldari Navy Inferno Torpedo [empty high slot] 'Arbalest' Siege Missile Launcher, Caldari Navy Inferno Torpedo

Agree with the weakness against T2 ships but most fleets aren't composed of T2 ships anyway. T2s are generally specialty ships. "Mors certa, hora incerta." |
