I tasted some nija salvager tears yesterday and they were very sweet. When I mission I do so in a nicely fit/rigged sentry domi. Things usually get no closer than 35km unless frigs (they don't count). I complete missions in good time unless I have to actually move that ship's big ass to a gate. I also have a noctis IV salvaging V alt that flies with my missioner.
So there I was doing Assault when a ninja salvager pulls up in a probe while in pocket 2. He convos me and informs me he will salvage my mission but won't steal my loot so there is nothing I can do about it. At this point my salvaging alt was returning from station unload (a full cargo load since this was 3rd mission in a row). I think the ninja thought I was salvaging with the domi.
I told him to try if he thought he could and he burned towards a Grand Admiral wreck. My noc pulls in and I lock the wrecks around him. When he gets within 4km I activate 4 tractors and bring all the wrecks around him blazing to me. Ninja is not to be detoured and he follows!
Of course the wrecks get to and I immediately activate salvager II's on them and I see him lock and activate on the Grand Admiral wreck. Poof I get salvage then proceed to the remaining wrecks in front of me. He burns towards another group of BS wrecks and I again start pulling wrecks, but good Ninja follows and tries his hardest to salvage something. He did this for 5 mins before finally leaving with some very choice/naughty words for me and my noctis.

Splendid.
Srsly, at this point, we're just happy to find an actual human-being running a mission. As a bonus, you even participated in a .... conversation. Not sure what that amateur was QQ about, maybe he's never seen a Noctis before. This just in, Notcis=Good. Who knew. LOLz. _____________________________________ Join our public channel "Ninja Dojo" Recruiting is now: INVITE ONLY Visit our Forum |

Edited by: Borun Tal on 31/08/2011 15:29:01 Once again, wtf is "ninja" about flying up to a missioner, TELLING them that you're going to salvage their wrecks, and the FAILING to salvage/loot?!?!
Seriously, guys, you need to think if of a new word for salvaging someone else's stuff: gabarge man, thief, Eve Custodial Engineer, Hall Pass Monitor... There's nothing "ninja" about it.

It's really amazing how many of these fools I run into that never think of this.
Granted it still wouldn't help much, since the noctis has a faster cycle time.

Loser seems like a good choice. Can only imagine how pathetic these people are in real life if this kind of activity is what they have to do for some semblence of happiness.

If they exist purely on the backs of the efforts of others then they're clearly either tax accountants, middle management or my ex-spouse.

True. It was a successful tactic prior to the Noctis though not necessary cept for the tears it extracted. A fast frigate used to be able to salvage a room faster than a cormorant could tractor the wrecks in.
It's why I say ninjaing is more or less a dead business for all but the most noob of noobs. The loot nerfs were the first nail. Depressed salvage prices the second. The Noctis the third. The probing changes with Incarna are more or less the fourth because it's now more difficult to probe so I'm guessing unconventional probing techniques for ninjas pre-Incarna are probably more difficult to make successful, if at all possible.
But, I still use my ninja salvager as a salvaging boat in w-space. It's a really fun ship to fly while salvaging. It gives that ole Noctis a run for his money. Can even beat him in C4's where the wrecks are spread out +80km apart.

Nice story and gratz to you. Not everyone is dual boxing.
A true Ninja Salvager would never have been seen. They would have warped in, maybe cloaked, bookmark the area if mission runner was still fighting NPC's and continue scans for other mission ships. After mission runner has gone into another room they would then start working on the wrecks. By the time the mission runner comes back all the wrecks and the Ninja Salvager would be gone.

No decent ninja salvager would warp to the MR in his scanship
If he was using a probe, then he is doing it wrong. If he doesn't bookmark when he 100% scans, he is doing it wrong. If he warps out when all the NPC aggro is on the MR, he is doing it wrong.

I think the real question is: why are you salvaging in Assault?
Maybe you should post your fit so we can improve it, because it has to be pretty darn slow to make it worth the effort to salvage? ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡ you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki

I can't see the relevance. He has 2 accounts, the faster he kills stuff, the busier and more profitable the noctis is. The noctis is probably piloted by an indy character who isn't that helpful as an assist dps, and he may not have a combat character on the second acct.

The relevance is that the faster you kill stuff, the less benefit you get from a Noctis because the same time could be spent killing more stuffà fastà
Getting the Noctis to perform at high speed requires a lot of attention, and that level of attention is better put towards a second ship killing more stuff (or, even better, blitzing though) a second mission. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡ you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki

Which is 3 billion worth of purchased alt, or months worth of training, where as the noctis is a few days skills and about 47mil fitted. ie there would be for most 2 account owners a period of time where running a noctis is the optimal thing to do with the second account.
I personally produce sufficient dps that any additional ships in my mission only produce straight line time improvements anyway, and running a second mission at the same time is more effort than the noctis. Your noctis doesn't explode because you salvaged a trigger.

Being able to play two accounts while doing that is quite remarkable imho.

you can priorize your attention to the mission ship and only salvage while your mission runner is in warp or docking/undocking. that way you increase your income per mission without increasing your time per mission.

Guess you missed this opening statement - A true Ninja Salvager would never have been seen.
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninja:
A ninja (忍者?) or shinobi (忍び?) was a covert agent or mercenary of feudal Japan specializing in unorthodox arts of war. The functions of the ninja included espionage, sabotage, infiltration, and assassination, as well as open combat in certain situations.
The ninja, using covert methods of waging war, were contrasted with the samurai, who had strict rules about honor and combat.
In his Buke Myōmokushō, military historian Hanawa Hokinoichi writes of the ninja: ôThey travelled in disguise to other territories to judge the situation of the enemy, they would inveigle their way into the midst of the enemy to discover gaps, and enter enemy castles to set them on fire, and carried out assassinations, arriving in secret.ö

Srsly, forget wikipedia, forever.
During the Tokugawa Shogunate, the family that did the gardening were also responsible for special ops. They were a samurai family, with all the 'honor' and so on. You know there's a lot of Japanese' indeed asian people in general who love the whole Euro knights-in-shining-armor thing right? Reason being the bushido stuff that westerners like for it's savagery doesn't have the same emphasis on chivalry or fair play that the euro version had, mostly from the church. The ninja has a very special place in the Japanese mind as they are special people whose strength lies in looking unremarkable.
I fly around a few mission hubs in my cheetah and a win for me is salvaging a pocket full of BS wrecks as you are in the next pocket plinking rats. i never steal loot or try to start a fight. An epic win is salvaging the last wreck, cloaking up and seeing a noctis warp to grid. i make rigs. never talk in local. sometimes i've taught new players how to do this well. my dream is for noctis pilots arriving at empty wreck fields to be a common thing. Salvage alts will become common, then small gangs of ninja-salvagers will take the field. Let the age of douchebaggery fade. Ninja salvaging can become fun and profitable all at once, let's make it happen.
