Honestly, the Gallente don't strike me as a race that would even be capable of Space-Flight, let alone Space-Combat. Everything the Gallente have sucks! Hybrids??? Railguns??? Blasters and super-slow ships??? The Proteus??? Oh god, could the Proteus have been more disappointing???
For the longest I've heard all this talk about how great T3 ships were, how they were great for lvl 4 missions, and how they do lvl 4 missions so quickly. After 4 months of training, and 500mil isk, I get a Proteus and ... its worthless! Its equiped with t2 railguns that do so little damage (except against frigates) that the rats completely rep the damage instantly! If it weren't for my drones I'd never get through a lvl 4 mission at all!
Really, shouldn't it have been the Gallente and not the Minmatar that were subjugated and lived in slavery? If the Amarr were a real people that's what they'd be saying to themselves; "We Should have enslaved the Gallente!" Seriously, the Gallente are so weak that if this were a real universe every faction with ships would have a sector of Gallente space.
Realistically, every other faction would have made ships with a bonus to Smartbombs and the Gallente would have been wiped out.

The Amarr didn't bother enslaving Gallente because they knew they sucked ;)

As a Gallente pilot, I have to respond to this slander. I won't engage in hyperbole or personal attacks. Instead, I have created (posted at the bottom of this post) a comprehensive list of all the things that are great about Gallente and their ships. Deal with the FACTS if you choose to respond!!!
Complete list of Pro-Gallente truths: 1. The Iteron, when trained to level five can haul a lot for an industrial. End of List
Now that all the good stuff about Gallente is out there we can continue this discussion.

The Proteus can be used for lvl4 missions, fit it with blasters and mwd and you're good to go. Just dont compare it to a Tengu.
Proteus shines in pvp, imo. The EHP of this t3 cruiser can go up to crazy levels with the right fit. High EHP, blasters, ecm drones...not to mention the ability to cloak...makes this ship really effective in low sec and null sec adventures.
Gallente ships can be effective. As long as you know its strengths and weaknesses. I agree that they do need some love from CCP, but what can you do? heh.
You can start training for a tengu...or learn to live with the proteus...=) "Right here, right now." |

I think you have to add the Ishtar as an excellent L4 AFK mission-runner (get all aggro in a room, fire up an a/b, orbit something, release the hounds and have a nap) and even better null sec plexer (2 high utility slots for a scan probe launcher and cloak).
The passive shield tank Myrm is also the best BC in the game for L3's and L4's, and a great boat for newer players to grind mission ISK in.
After that, yeah, we Gallente pretty much do suck.

Edited by: Thornat on 01/09/2011 12:03:09 It wasn't always the case, their was a time when Gallente was quite good, but through various patches, expansions and buffs but mostly neglect the gallente race in general has been becoming less and less valid. Great ships like the Daemos for example used to be exceptional. Dominix was once a viable battleship, not so much anymore. You still have some great ships though, its not a complete loss. The Nemesis is still i think one of the best stealth bombers. The intercepters are quite good despite their reliance on hybrid weapons. You have some of the faction ships like the comet that is quite good. Generally though most of the ships are outclassed by their counter parts from other races.
Just wanted to add that the Proetus is not on the list of bad Gallente ships. You might want to read up on proper fittings but thats actually one of Gallantes saving graces in my opinion.

Proteus is a BLASTERboat, and it REALLY sucks for missioning. It¦s fairly good for PvP with said configuration and can tank like hell. If you want to mission, thinking of L4¦s:
Get Ishtar, or get Domi, or get Navy Domi, or start crosstraining Caldari (Tengu, CNR), or Minnie (Maelstrom), or basically every other ship than gallente BS.
For further improvement, post your opinion in the "buff blasters and rails" threadnought.

The Proteus has very specific uses where it excels. PVE is not it. I fly a Proteus with cov-ops subsystem with 620DPS and 110Kehp tank with high resists. If I wanted to complex fit it I could get more still. You'll not find another T3 capable of that kind of damage and tank while utilizing the cov-ops subsystem. Fit correctly with cov-ops subsystem and in the right circumstances the Proteus is like a crocodile laying in wait. You never know its there until you're mauled by it and then it's too late.

Amarr didnt enslave gallente as they didnt want to dilute the slave genepool to the point that the slaves needs nurses to tend to them.

It's kinda odd that I fly around with a cap stable mwd proteus going 1400m/s with 600+ dps and 700+dps omni tank(a rainbow tank that works in every L4) ripping through missions easily and without risk then because I'd swear that's a Gallente ship.

LOL... Really?? There isn't a level 4 mission in the game I can't own in a PVE fit Proteus. And the Megathron is a great CR battleship for fleet combat. They just aren't in vogue anymore, what with Hellcat Abaddons and Tengu fleets being all the rage. For PVP, Minm is still where it's at. That's why I crosstrained into Minm cruiser the first chance I got...

The missiles my Tengu fire travel at >8,000m/s and do ~750 DPS. I can also select damage types if the target resists make it worth lowering that raw DPS by 20%
However, I do salute your willingness to make the best of a bad job.

Yeah Gallente are far from perfect and Hybrids need a little love but they are far from useless. I mean come on they could have it worse they could be Caldari.
