Ok I am trying to learn how these two mods work and am getting a little frustrated so could use some help from you Vets out there.
First of all the different cloaking devices. I keep getting killed and want to know some facts about them.
For example I have a mammoth I do PI with in Low sec and I have lost two Mammoths already with my T1 cloaking device activated. So my question is this.
Do Cloaking devices fail? Do they randomely turn off or are people able to see you with good equipment? I can't afford to keep loosing ships and buying this mod if it is useless. Or is it just that the T1 is worthless and I should train for the T2?
Do they fail? Does T1 Fail but T2 is good When cloaked can a pilot still find you? If you are targeted before being cloaked but then cloak can they shoot you? Why can't I recloak mid attack (was not letting me with my T1)? Any info on cloaking devices and how they work vs an opponent would help.
No my Warp Core Stabilizers.
I put them on my ship and still get frozen by pilots in low sec. I have trained T2 basic stab and have one on my ship but still get trapped. Can you guys give me a 101 on how to stab my ship good?
Any help on these topics would be appreciated. I am just venturing out of High sec for different things and am getting ripped appart and my finances can't take it. I am willing to learn but need help. "Peace Through Fear" Pax Emunio Director of Personnel Pax Gaming Rector www.paxgaming.com

A t1 cloak is pretty much useless on a hauler. You can't warp cloaked, or even align when cloaked. Unless it's a t2 cloak with a t2 MWD and you know the cloak+MWD trick it won't help.
On a T1 hauler hauling P1 products in low sec I just fit a full rack of stabilizers on a t1 hauler and cross my fingers that I don't run across a heavy interdictor or a full gate camp.
The loss of a t1 fitted t1 hauler is negligible anyway. A t2 fit can be expensive, and it doesn't guarantee success, so you have to ask if it is worth it just to haul PI products?

If you are within 2000m of any object the cloak will drop.
Originally by: Malaiit PerVida When cloaked can a pilot still find you?
If he can get himself or a drone within 2000m of you, yes. Otherwise, no.
Originally by: Malaiit PerVida If you are targeted before being cloaked but then cloak can they shoot you?
You cannot cloak while targeted, so yes. Note that this applies both to players and NPCs.

See above. A cloak only works as a preventative measure, not a get out of jail free card.
Originally by: Malaiit PerVida Any info on cloaking devices and how they work vs an opponent would help.
You are undetectable while cloaked. You decloak if anything comes within 2000m meters of your whip. You cannot recloak for 2 seconds, you cannot recloak if something is within 2000m, and you cannot recloak while targeted. While cloaked, you cannot activate any modules, but any module activated before the cloak will finish its duration before deactivating. While cloaked, your speed is cut by 90% (prototype) or 75% (improved).
These last two points lead to the so-called mwd + cloak trick, which you can read about here or many, many other places at your leisure.
Only specialized ships can fit covert ops cloaking devices, and only covert ops cloaking devices allow you to warp while cloaked (which more or less amounts to impunity of travel in low sec). In your case, you might want to look at training towards a Prowler (or really any racial Transport Ship) if you want this ability.
Note that the whole "you cannot cloak while being targeted" caveat also leads many to use an ECM burst module to attempt to get away/cloak up; ymmv.

Heavy Interdictors will cut through any number of stabs. Long points will be defeated by a single stab. Short points require two.

Thanks so much that helps a ton. I really appreciate the responses guys. I did not understand the end of your post though about the stabs. what do you mean long or short points? "Peace Through Fear" Pax Emunio Director of Personnel Pax Gaming Rector www.paxgaming.com

warp scramblers = -2 warp strenght , but a lower range of action . To counter a ship who scrambled you , you need 2 warp core stabs .
disruptor = -1 warp strenght but a bigger range of action .

Edited by: Tasha Manjir on 02/09/2011 13:04:32 Warp scramblers require you to fit 2 stabs, but it requires the guy scrambling you to be within 9,000m, while the warp disruptor require you to fit 1 stab, but the guy has to be within 24 km.
This is because of the "warp scramble strength" - check the description of "warp scrambler" and "warp disruptor".

Edited by: Thorian Baalnorn on 02/09/2011 15:02:13 * The cloak + MWD trick works best on covert ships. * You should triple stab or better a ship. It adds up all points of scram against you and all points of stab. If yours is higher or = you can warp if yours is lower you cant warp. Some pvpers use 3 points( a long range and a short range). Many that work in groups will have multiple. * Fit the rest of your lows with T2 inertial stabilizers they make you warp faster. *Dont try to do PI in pipelines. You will die often. A (lowsec)pipeline is a route from hi sec to 0.0. *Park your indy in the closest high sec station ( to low sec) and then either use a shuttle or your pod to scout the route. 90% of lowsec pvpers wont waste sec stat on a shuttle or pod. Some will though, so make sure your clone is upgraded. *Warning: Be weary of HICs( Heavy Interdictors)they have infinite scrams. No amount of stabs will save you.
Otherwise train for a t2 covert transport( can warped while cloaked and no movement penalty while cloaked). They cost about 60-70 mil and hold less but if you learn/know how to fly one they are nearly impossible to catch in low sec. Make sure you learn and practice the cloak/MWD trick before venturing into low sec in it.

^^ That right there would solve most, if not all your problems. Spend the training time in training for a prowler or one of its racial cousins and you will never look back. A viator equipped with expanded cargo rigs can hold up to 10k of crap, I think a prowler might be a little smaller.
These ships were given the Cov Ops cloaks to run through and around blockades (gatecamps). They are very effective at that role to the point most folks dont even try to catch them. In low sec..They are called ghost...you see them for a flash and poof gone. Without the bubbles of nullsec , you have to be extremely lucky or hope that the pilot make a mistake when aligning and cloaking.
