Hey'a!
In your own experience, what is the cutoff (Level-wise)for using just one BC to head-off the enemies in a security mission?
I'm just heading off to do some solo-level 2's in Rens to prepare for the level 3's, and I want to know if a BC is able to handle it alone.

A properly fitted drake can tank lvl 4s.

Any battle cruiser will get you through lvl3's easily.

Level 5 wouldn't be possible anymore solo. Anything below that is fair game.

Some of the level 4 epic arc missions may be quite hard in a Battlecruiser, but they can do level 4 missions even if it may take some time.
While you will see people in this forum constantly talk about DPS, the fact of the matter is that it doesn't take much DPS to do a level 4 mission, merely that it takes a long time to do a level 4 mission without much DPS therefore it is less efficient.
To put things into perspective; lacking a jump freighter or carrier, when I first started doing True Power missions, the only ship I had was a reaper, after doing more level 1 missions than I care to admit with the help of a single warrior II, I built an arbitrator from my loot and that did level 2,3, & 4 missions just fine till I built a dominix. Yes, some missions like The Blockade DED l4 require a long time beat and careful spawn management to tank, but in the end, they aren't too hard, even for a t1 cruiser.
Remember though, doing a mission and doing one efficiently are two different things. That and skills for the ship in question and it's support skills are going to be very important.

Drake can do lvl4's rather well, in fact VERY well if you blitz.
All other BC's should stay with l3's.

The whole fit costs something like 50m after insurance, and does.. 400 dps If you had a hurricane behind it, you could probably actually clear a l5.
Like, that hurricane: [Hurricane, New Setup 1] Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II Tracking Enhancer II Tracking Enhancer II

Moving around at 1300m/s, doing 800 dps (albeit in a very short range) or 550 (in a more-than-decent one) And again, a sub-50m fit. You could lose both every L5 out of two and still be isk-positive The drake doesn't fare as well against Amarr / Sansha / Blood Raiders / MOAR LAZORS, but will be ok against any other.

Level 3s are reasonbly straight forward in a BC - even for a low skilled pilot, altough I would get t2 drones as soon as possible as a scrambling frigate under the guns of a arti cane could be fatal.
BCs can probably do most if not all level 4s but some would be risky and most would probably be very slow unless the pilot has very good skills

Any BC can do its own races level 4's decently. Drake can do them all.
You should be fine in any level 3 in any BC fit relative to the mission. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

With respect to AureoLion's fits, the drake as tank makes sense, but a bomber makes a bit more sense usually as a dps ship (I used one on a few l5s and I use them extensively on my FW missions). However, if one is using such a combo an AML drake actually makes more sense so that it can concentrate on the frigates where a bomber can then concentrate on the stuff torpedos actually work on.
However, this is all a bit OT as th OP clearly stated solo. A better question would be though, not what level can a battlecruiser do, but what level should it stop at to make maximum profit. I would be tempted to say to that question level 4s would pay out less than level 3 missions given the longer time in a battlecruiser, but I don't actually have any real data to back that up, it would be interesting if anyone has actually studied it.

Using the logic that one should be min/maxing, why make suggestions on mission running at all?
Just wondering.

The answer would depend on play-style and both player and character skill. Cleaning out lvl4 missions with a Drake or 'cane was painfully slow when I started doing it, but my overall income was still higher than what I made finishing lvl3 missions as fast as I could. Now, with more experience, standings, and SP, cherry picking lvl4 missions to blitz with a BC would probably be more profitable for me than my current preferred way of running missions in a Maelstrom.

I'm a bit late to respond, but thanks for all the input!
I'll stick with level 3's then, I'd rather not lose a ship I won't be able to replace easily (inb4flywhatucanafford2lose) to scrambler frigates.

I did level 1 and level 2 combat missions in a Hulk.

The Hail is there to make a number point. And since you're a BC with a MWD, shooting BSs with medium ACs while being fitted with negligible tank, hail will actually work. Proven you're pointblank. The ISK efficiency peak of BCs is L3s. You need to gimp your DPS to do 4s. That said, you CAN do up to 5. That doesn't mean you should. Please play the game, both on eft and pratically, before spouting sentences derived from abitude "omg hail is crap", hail is crap only on 99.5% of the cases

MWDs work in deadspace for the most part and have from some time. Very few missions actually make it where you can't use your MWD anymore.

Nice, good to know - I will have to refit my ships & give it a try, but I still don't think a no tank cane with 425 mm s could survive most level 4 missions.

It's probably fortunate that it has a drake tanking the level 5 for it then
