EVE should go free to play... A lot of companies have successfully pulled it off, and they could keep MT's without much complaint. Then they can make a complete and finished expansion or two each year and charge for those individually. For example, if someone wants to opt out of Incarna they simply don't have to purchase it.
It makes sense to me, although they would need to work out the unlimited alts situation that would inevitably arise...

Do we really want an inbred ****** post like this to be archived on the front page forever when these forums get frozen in carbonite? Do everyone a favor and keep your stupid mouth shut until the new forums come out. Your opinions are WRONG.

[tinfoil] Kinda wondering if the NeX store and them not giving a real **** if ppl leave wasnt their way of softening up the player base of the people that would ***** if the game DID to F2P [/tinfoil] -------- CCP knows better than the players whats good for their game. SOE knew what was best for SWG too. Better than all those players that left too. |

There should be f2p. And its already prepared. Trial account. There is only need to remove 14 day limitation and its done. f2p would have limitation in skill books, just like trial today.

an you pay real money to get non trial nooks... what? They do something like that in DDO and the quest buy system
and in case youre gonna accuse me of the tinfoil thing, I heard of this idea first in the "greed is good" memo ------------------------- "The voice of the player has always been an integral and driving force in the maturation of EVE Online" Petur Oskarsson - naivety of youth or is he no longer with "us"? |

Obviously you dont understand this whole "f2p mania". look at the WOW. They presenting F2P as "free". But its not free. Its just demoversion/trial, without time limitation. They just gave players a good feeling that they can play "for free". But its still only a demo full of limits. So i dont see a problem if CCP give us this "f2p" by the removing 14 day limit.

Because $15 a month is obviously too expensive.... Or buy a PLEX, EVE probably has one of the best subscription systems ive seen in any MMO so gtfo with F2P bull.
Right now someone can PLEX their whole way through EVE, not pay for anything ever, not even expansions. Your suggestion is sub par, and im sure would make NO sense to the rest of the community, kthx.

EVE is already a disguised F2P. Everyone with any economic understanding can make 300m+ a day without any problems to get PLEX.

FTP would kill the PLEX market for CCP. The NEX store cannot replace the demand of all the accounts running on PLEX.
I suspect you won't see it for those reasons. CCP wants it to be viable to purchase PLEX from them and then resell to other players for ISK.

I agree with everyone else - OP's suggestion is a bad idea.
We want a steady income stream for CCP so that thay can further improve Eve.
An excessive item store means an unbalenced game.

EVE should be F2P. For example in game there are skils that canot be trained on trial accounts.CCP should put something like neverending trial, where you will for better skils pay with ARUM or something like that ------------------------------------------------ Plocasti materijali |

DING DING DING.. Give the guy with the big lips a donut!
Ya generally speaking games that have failed miserably bail themsleves out by going free to play and hoping it will attract enough new cheap sk.. I mean players to play their game and sign up(pay) for the "extra stuff". Oddly enough this works, which is often quite confusing to me that a person is unwilling to pay 15 bucks a month for all the content the game has to offer but is happy paying 20 bucks a few times a month to get bits and pieces of the same game. Everquest 2 is one of the silliest examples. Free to play yet after you get done upgrading the game to the "full game" you get when you pay 15 bucks a month you end up spending hundreds of dollars for it. Yet its wildly popular and has literly revitalized the game to the point that the free to play servers are way more fun to play on than the subscription fee servers.
Never understood it, but it is a fact that it works.
Some examples
Dungeons and Dragons Online Everquest 2 Guild Wars Lord of The Rings
just to name a few that have been saved from definitive deaths and revitalized by free to play.
Wether these games can claim to be successful however is another story, since their is like zero information about figuires (except for EQ2 which I have experianced first hand) for all we know they are wildly successful, or horrific failures. Who knows... but if the trend is an indication than I would say, ya it seems to be very successful, otherwise no one would be doing it.

See DDO if you werent just trolling. It was dying, no doubt, then they went F2P, and now the DDO model is turbine's basic f2p strategy

It all depends on what you consider to be successful.
As a founder of Lotro I can tell you that yes, maybe financially in the short term it has been a success for Warner Brothers.
In regards to the game itself it has been a total failure.
Since Lotro went to F2P a massive amount of "I win items" have been introduced, content releases have been poor to say in the least.
At the moment a small number of players are now demanding refunds for the up and coming Isengaurd expansion as more and more features seem to be disspearing and that number is growing, especially since WB have to refund EU players by law.
A number of there servers are damn near enough empty as most people expect a number of server merges in the coming 12 months.
So yes, whilst in the short term WB might of made a some extra money, very little littel of it has gone back into the game and players are still leaving.

Edited by: Gemberslaafje on 05/09/2011 13:24:22 Edited by: Gemberslaafje on 05/09/2011 13:22:12 Umm, if you get 400 mil ISK a month per account, the game IS free to play already (I am aware it doesn't work like that entirely, but in effect, that's what it's achieving)
Also,
Quote: Guild Wars
has been 'free 2 play' from the creation of the game, and is simply using a different profit model. It's success had NOTHING to do with it GOING free 2 play, as it never WAS pay 2 play to begin with. ---

Nope.
If it requires 400m isk per month, its not free to play. If the big coalitions curbstomping pretty much everyone in the search for more vital space has taugh us anything, is that ISK has real life value. ____________

Very well. BUT, my point still stands that you don't strictly need Euro's/Dollars/Pounds/Crones to play the game. ---
