Hi everyone.
As you all know, putting a bounty on someone's head isn't going to do much. If the bounty is very small, it will be ignored. If the bounty is large, the pirate/suicide ganker/whatever is going to kill himself with an alt, or with his friends, and the agressor just got rewarded for his trouble. Unless said pirate see that as some sort of honor badge and try to get the biggest bounty possible.
So the bounty system needs to be reworked into something that allow you to pay to make life more difficult to someone else, but without directly rewarding other players for it. Or you can be sure that it will be abused the same way.
So far the best answer I've come up with would be to have player A put X isks on player B's head, and a fraction of that money (50%?) would be removed from the next ship insurances player B should have received. The other 50% would be a money sink, as well as a way to prevent a rich angry carebear from making a poor pirate broke for an excessive time.
If you have other ideas that would also work, I'm all ears.
Disclaimer: I never put a bounty on someone's head, nor do ever plan to. When I lose a ship, I don't care much about who did it, I just replace it. I just don't like broken features. ------------------------------------------

You must be mistaken. Bounties have nothing to do with 0.0

1. I never bother to insure my ships (any of them, even battleships, I'm lazy and they hardly ever die anyway) 2. Can't wait to put me some bounties on people I'm about to grief/suicide gank Signature needs to be more EVE related. Zymurgist |

I actually thought about OP's Idea until I read this. Then I lol'd I'd totally do that.

But you still get the basic insurance.

Can be avoided fairly easily by refining the concept. For exemple, "can be done only if the avatar you want to put a bounty on destroyed your ship within 30 minutes". And you'd still pay much more that it would cost the guy. ------------------------------------------

Shadow, the basic insurance is next to nothing, if someone doesn't insure their ship, it means they just don't care about insurance. You're basicly making no impact and also, with your system, there is no incentive to bounty hunt. I currently have a 70m bounty on my head, and I can't pod that away because every jump clone I own is packed with valuabe pimplants.
As for your second point, that's limiting eve to a simpler game than it is. What if you were scammed? Or someone stole your loot? Or if you don't have the money atm but want to save up?
Your ideas would just remove the bounty system entirely.
The best idea I heard, was that when you put a bounty on someone, you'd get a percentage of that bounty in relation to the value of the ship destroyed whenever you blew that players ship up. Signature needs to be more EVE related. Zymurgist |

I believe the simplest solution would be to tie the bounty payout to the value of the destroyed ship, rather than the destruction of the pod.
For example: "Pirate X" has a one billion ISK bounty on his head when he is cornered and destroyed in his command ship . . . the value of the command ship is then subtracted from the bounty pool and paid to his killer.
Lets see pirates self-destruct their supercaps to collect the bounty now!

In my shallow, poorly considered opinion, bounties mean nothing because they are meaningless in high sec. You can't work to collect a bounty in high sec without Concord intervention. I never "got" that....

You're right, your opinion is both shallow and poorly considered.
1. You can (if you use your noggin) 2. You're insinuating basicly, the removal of concord protection which I for one would love, but would set griefing to spiral completely out of control Signature needs to be more EVE related. Zymurgist |

I tought about that already, but full insurance could make it beneficial for the pirate to destroy his own empty T1 ship. ------------------------------------------
