I love oversized afterburner fits.
When they work they are spectacular, and the 'WTF' moment when your opponent lands a scam to no avail are priceless. The amount of damage they can mitigate is incredible when they work and being able to burn right though a web and have enough momentum to come out the other side is something that will never get old. Of course taking 15 seconds to align and struggling to maintain an orbit are occupational hazards. They are tricky to fit, harder to fly and often easy to counter, but there must be some other pioneers out there.
Now everyone and their mum flies a 100mn Tengu and its often expected I prefer more unexpected and unorthadox fits. So I was wondering what are your other favourite oversized AB fits/ships? I'd particularly like to see what people think in the cruiser environment as I've struggled to find anything I really enjoy flying there.
To kick off here are a few of my favourites
The Hawk is one of my favourites, with light missiles and an ASB, very survivable as long as you pick your fights.
The Manticore as inspired by this video although not quite as expensive.
The Gila and Stabber Fleet Issue are workable as cruisers, but I have never been truely fond of them
The Oracle has to be one of my all-time favourites with a 100mn AB and Mega Pulse IIs (for gangs), unscrammable, untrackable by hostile T3s and faster than a MWD fit. |

No. Pretty much all oversized AB fits are bad except for those tengu/legion fits which only work because those ships get a bonus to AB speed and don't use tracking dependent weapons. (and loki links).
Only reason 100mn AB fits have some degree of place is becuase faction/deadspace AB's have a bonus to speed increase over T2 whereas MWD's do not. This makes pimped fits able to get MWD speeds with oversized AB's. MWD is much better though, a pimped out AB fit offers a marginal advantage in certain scenarios where agility doesn't matter as much (read, you're in a blob), at the cost of either fitting or isk. |

10MN rifter is fun, but yeah, not particularly useful. Life is short and dinner time is chancy Eat desert first! |

Have to contest that, many fits are happy with a named or faction AB (30-50m) and a T2 fit. Often a named AB will achieve similar speeds to a mwd, although I agree there is more room for pimping due to better ABs having more speed. Agree tracking is an issue so generally missile ships work better, the oracle being the exception due to it's long range.
To dismiss the fitting type entirely is difficult to support. 'Pretty much all' still leaves a fair bit of room for a few very workable fits.
Pros: Unscrammable 6X Lower sig than MWD Longer cycle time
Cons: High PG use Agility |

The 100mn Talos is one of the best solo BCs I've ever flown. The tracking on those blasters is out of this world and the 25m^3 drone bay is simply amazing. I have 5 ready to go right now. :)
This video features a lot of 100mn Talos action and the intro fight is against a frig fleet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYPnV1sUt3Y

While the comment about tracking-independent weapons is true, don't forget the other reason the Tengu is popular: 100mn work well with range, where your actions and movement is not as intensive. The 10mn Bomber video that came out a couple of months ago was a creative example, but there are other classes that stand alot to gain as their tasks do not require them to shoehorn fit-demanding modules to perform their role or reinforce it with staying power from 100mn.

Posting with the caveat that I haven't tried it yet, I'm slowly training up my skills with a sacrilege and have been interested to see if an oversized AB might work with it. If anyone has experience with that, I'd love to hear about it.
Tracking wouldn't be an issue, but I'm not sure how well range control would go considering the lack of agility and if giving up dual-MAR is just too big of a loss to make it worth it. |

I kept trying the talos but got annoyed about being unable to get neutrons on with the 100mn, so I guess Ions could be a fair compromise, just falloff might suffer a bit. Nice video though.
The Oracle is a similar situation to the talos except you don't have a point and you are sitting at 60-70ish (T2 locus) where you track very will against most targets, harder to fight frigs in although I have sig-tanked some frigates waiting for friends to come in from 3 jumps away in the oracle, I'm not sure if that says more about rockets or oversized ABs though |

I don't think I'd run a 100mn AB turret ship without a web. I tried it for a while with an invuln, but I didn't like it nearly as much as having the ability to web/counterweb someone that manages to close with me.

Ed: Also, Ions work fine. I think I'd run them even if I could squeeze Neutrons on. Normally on 5:00 -> 9-10:00 Eve (Aus TZ?) Blog: http://liangnuren.wordpress.com PVP Videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/LiangNuren/videos Twitter: http://twitter.com/LiangNuren

I have been thinking about flying an ashimmu for a while now then i read this thread and efted it... and i don't think so lol. I shall leave that to the ships that can fit a good shield tank+speed lol. Want some pvp help? Like to fly small and fast frigates? Then join the in game channel Tenori_Tigers! I wanted a 100mn Ashimmu to catch things like tenugs, but its a horribly slow ship and just doesn't work with 100mn AB unfortunately. |

Yup, too slow for its own good lol, and such a shame. It has the perfect power grid for 100mn afterburner D: .
On another note I have seen successful 10mn thrashers and i know a guy who flies a 10mn Firetail. I say the firetail might now be the best for solo pvp cause the damage application isn't that good, but a firetail/slasher 10mn for tackle must be nice. Want some pvp help?
