So what else are we expecting?
- ring mining(?) - new POS - new explosions - system lighting effects - new turret nozzle effects(?) - new drone control UI in HUD
The POS stuff has the potential to be the 'big thing', maybe? |

Err, crimewatch? That's a huge change. New bounty system? That's another huge change.
Maybe you should write to CCP and tell them what you want. |

that bounty system, i wonder what's stopping a vet from putting 1 mil bount on all the new players in a starter system and watch the chaos, or pirates putting one on miners? if you can really put a bounty on anyone, Jita undock will be a fun place to be :-). |

Well, I have read many interesting approaches to a new bounty system, but I think most of them will become exploitable sooner or later again. I don't know if this was suggested already, but here are my two cents:
- Bounty payout only on pod kills. - Bounty payout is less than the cost of the new clone.
Simple. Loss is always greater than reward.
Comments are welcome.

Crimewatch changes sound interesting, liked the idea of it when it was mentioned at Fanfest, hope it works out well.
As to the models. Minmatar and Amarr models? Did you sack all your concept artists? The Minmatar one looks plane bad and the Amarr one lacks any inspiration :/ Such a shame as I like the new Gallente destroyer and the Caldari one looks great! |

If I remember, it's not just can flipping or suicide ganking rookies in starter systems that's disallowed - I think I remember a GM posting that the guideline was 'don't **** with newbies', but I could be wrong. Even if it happens the bounty can only be claimed by suicide ganking the rookie (banned) or if you have kill rights, in which case the rookie's been naughty anyway.
Putting bounties on just anyone isn't going to cause too much shenanigans. The downside to putting a bounty on some random pilot is that you just lost money putting bounty on some random pilot. |

From my understanding this is exactly how it's going to work (except not being pod-only):
To get an assumed bounty of like 1 million, the loss mail has to be at least 1.2 million in value (as an example). This would making collecting your own bounty rather unattractive, while still allowing you to "pay" to get rid of it
Also I'm really looking forward to these changes. As for "low level" crimes I'd suggest waiting for more details. But at the same time think of civil courage in real life: people don't just watch others getting robbed. Some will try to help the victim without them going to jail (as long as it's reasonable). Is this new flagging going to be that different? Looking for more thoughts? Read http://aethlyn.blogspot.com/ or follow me on http://twitter.com/Aethlyn. |

EDIT......but as the POS update is art/industrial mechanics/smallholding/avatar related, it can't be a big factor in something called, Retribution ! I think the new crimewatch stuff will be a significant improvement to the game, could be fun
Ring mining comes after POS revamp and that may be arriving next year in the winter. If all things go well (and if I read that huge summer CSM transcript right). But don't expect the POS revamp this year, that's a huge overhaul.

Comments are welcome. Considering the average age of players and the average SP amount of characters, most bounties would amount to lower-single-digit millions of ISK. My oldest character uses a 150m SP clone and even that costs only 45 million ISK. It wouldn't be worth pursuing bounties at all in this case.
Tying bounty payments to a percentage (a high percentage, something like 90%) of the total value of the hull and destroyed modules would be a much more balanced approach. The only way to exploit this would be via the use of rare modules, the price of which could be temporarily manipulated on the market. Hard caps could prevent this from becoming an issue. We actually already did get a new session change icon. The old one was a spiny circle of lines akin to a buffering video. The current one is now a solid circle that works like a reverse module timer and actually reflects the time left. The old one spun arbitrarily. The Drake is a Lie |

My first thought was it's a remodeled coercer and not a new ship. It's certainly not a bad design, but not exciting either. I think the U-boat is my favorite with the minmatar scraping tool being the least favorite one. |

From the Massively article:
Quote:Here's how the new bounty system in Retribution works: Any player can, for any reason, create a bounty on another player.(...) There are no longer limitations on creating bounties; players do not have to be below a certain security rating to qualify.
Maybe the guys at Massively got it wrong, maybe i am getting it wrong, but that sounds as a gateway to CCP-sanctioned player harrassment.
Are there any Developer details on it yet? I play games for fun, evasion and reward.-áEVE is not fun, it sucks as much as reality and dismisses all my ways of playing it.

Haven't seen a thing, maybe next week?
But yeah, how about a big, very big alliance is going to put a bounty on everyone they see in local. Gone be... fun?

Manipulating the market - this is exactly what i was thinking of when stating pods only. However I admit payouts would be low, and this could be discouraging for bounty hunters.

No. Player harrassment is against the Terms of Service.
But then, as long as anyone could pick any random noob and put a bounty on his head, beat him on the spot with a PvP alt and suffer no consequence, and as far as that was a valid game mechanic, then CCP would be sanctioning a certain path to player harrassment.
This is why I wonder wether Massively has got it right and CCP really means what the article says. I play games for fun, evasion and reward.-áEVE is not fun, it sucks as much as reality and dismisses all my ways of playing it.

Doing this would cost you even more than just beating the guy without placing bounty. They'd suffer a sec status hit on the pvp guy.
Sure someone could go around putting bounty on people for no reason, but they'd need to put a bit of ISK on each guy to make them worth the shooting, and they're using their own ISK doing so. There's no reason for people to do it to random pilots. |
