I am training and acquiring skills and weapons for my new ship (Incursus) and in the meantime have been hauling an imicus (on day 4 here - Intaki) with a few expanded cargo holds.
In my region, I did a spreadsheet and found spirits the best item to haul. 5 hops - buying for 437 selling for 467. I think electronic parts might be slightly more profitable for me.
I will start checking out prices in adjacent regions. I wish it was easier to find what these other prices are. Anyway, if you have any tips for finding lucrative routes, let meknow. Thanks.

I should say, rather that the buy price is more like 430 - but it fluxiates. the market seems to get better as the day goes on.

The first goal should be to get to know the market fluctuations in your region, and where the profitable routes run.
The next goal after that is to check neighboring regions to compare the prices there, and see if there is an interregional play.
The key, of course, is not just the gross profit margin per unit, but the volume per unit to determine how many units you can fit in your cargo hold and how many you can haul in one run. When you do those calculations, you'll have a good sense of what is profitable and what is not.
I think it's very hard to trade for a good amount of profit in a frigate unless you are trading very high margin items, which may be hard to afford. But in any case, the same general principles apply. ---------------------------

Thanks. That is actually what I intend to do - learn my region, check the neighboring ones. I have a spreadsheet I enter buy/sells in and do a calc based on my volume.
For about 8 hops total (4 each way), I get about 60-100k+. I will probably grab a shuttle and peak into some neighboring regions later on today.
Right now, though, spirits are the best in terms of availability, demand, and price spread. Antibiotics would be better if I could sell more than 150 at a time.

Except that trade in illegals is flawed. Check many other threads to find out why. Spreadsheet though, good plan, helps while you wait for your memory to absorb all that data.

Price ranges are the same everywhere. Really. Prices change when players trade, then drift back to a standard value. There are no permanently good trade routes, the pattern shifts constantly.
First, you need to find out what those standard values are. Then you need a map of some regions in your head along with what sells where. Look at the market screens and try to work out why player X is offering to buy Widgets for 0.01 ISK, surely no one sells at that price?
Then you should consider the totality of the player economy. Why is the Minerals market different from Trade Goods? Why are the Equipment and Ammunition and Ship and Component Markets all different?

Well, it sounds like you are off to a good start if you are using a spreadsheet. Successful traders are the ones with the good records. Keep building up your knowledgebase and the money will roll in. Remember: trading is about knowledge.
