Edited by: lythos miralbar on 13/03/2005 20:27:17 As you have probably noticed there has been an increasing trend towards sniping BS at 150km from gates as a standard tactic. This has become extremely common place now and it sucks..
At the moment there only a few ways to counter them, two of them being..
1) An opposing force with a larger number of sniping BS's 2) An EW ship with a load of sensor boosters and dampners..
These changes will screw over the second option severely.. meaning fighting is going to come down to fleets of long rang BS's as it does on many occasions now.
If things are left as they are without the EW changes, once more people realise they can put 3 sensor boosters and 3 sensor dampners on a Blackbird and tie up 3 BS's in a long range sniper battle and start using that tactic, long range sniping is going to become less and less popular.
If the EW changes go through, only in very small scale engagements will frigs and cruisers be any use..
This detracts from the game MASSIVELY.
Leave EW as it is for the time being please CCP. Or bring in the random effect you are looking for, but remove the range limits on EW (target jammming + sensor dampning)

a Blackbird with the ew changes and the new bonus (+10% to ew optimal/lv) has on optimal of about 140km easily on the ew modules. even a griffin has that(but that doesn't have the targeting range i think), then again to me sensor dampeners don't make a lot of sense anyway, how in the world do they work ? I can see remote sensor boosters working through triangulation or something but damps?? IMHO ew will become better(better as in more fun) than it is now instead of useless. ------------------------------------------ The ammatar are not the enemy, they are the smoke and mirrors of the amarr. |

People have been sniping for 150km for the better part of a year and half, or more.
New EW changes aren't going to change that one bit.

You are missing out the best option of these.
3) A covert ops ship and a small group of short range ships. Hmmmm, sniper barbecue.

Edited by: lythos miralbar on 14/03/2005 00:05:49 The optimal for dampners is apparently going to be 25km..
BB bonus = +20% per level to optimal Electronic optimal skill = +10% to optimal
Assuming caldari cruiser at lvl4 and electronic optimal at level 4, even if the bonus's stack properly thats.
(25km /100)*180 = 45km optimal with BB bonus (45km /100)*140 = 63km optimal with Electronic optimal skill..
So with skills at level 4, even if the two bonus's stack, you'll have an optimal of 63km with sensor dampners..
That makes even a dedicated EW cruiser completely useless in fleet battles..
Hell, even on a Scorp EW is limited to the same sort of numbers.. I dont know where you got 140km from. Either im doing the math VERY wrong or the numbers suck..
If im doing it wrong someone please correct me and put my mind at rest..
EDIT :- ok.. yeah. .there is opton 3 too

Actually the problem is it will make combat random and based on luck. Dice > Skills and tactics. This is wrong! The more random factors that are added to pvp the less interesting it will be.

I have to agree with you. I wonder if CCP didnt loose one of their top original architechs?
I like Eve because the skill thing is different and better than the hack n slash to gain experience. Plus you train offline sorta as well. And the combat was not too random.
But to add randomness to EW is just going to be frustrating. ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

You tend to hear a lot of moaning that all engagements happen at 15km or less ... and that you want more varied range yada yada
And now your moaning that ppl are using long range setups..
meh ... figures

im all for long range setups. long-range sniping means lower damage, meaning more time to react, meaning more fun for me.
tired of this 10 shot kill BS we see now.
I'm all for the EW changes, BUT I'll admit I've never really been into EW.. nor have I tried the EW changes. So my opinion means nothing and you should ignore it :D ________
