Hi there, I am at the point now of buying the skill book for a carrier, I am closest to Nid has i have the battleship 5 on minmitar already...
Currently I live in a C4 with c3 static and i wanted to have a carrier in the c4 to defend the POS, however i have longer term plans of getting into c5's which I understand the Archon is best! but how well would a Nid work in a C5? am i really doing to have to train for both?.. id rather not! |

For general POS defence/maintenance the nid is useful to have with its remote rep bonus however for most PVP situations no other carrier is in the same league as the archon. Pretty much any of the carriers will do for sites but the archon with its energy rep range bonus makes its a bit easier.
You don't really need a carrier in a C4 for POS defence tho as a well setup ****/death star will put most people off bashing it unless you actually give them a reason to and you'd have to build a carrier inside the C4 which is a ton of work for something that most of the time will just sit there. |

Good point, the nid will just be sitting there in the c4 doing little/nothing else! well maybe I should just get an archon trained up, but not built till in a c5 then.. i like the fact it can do well in PVP and PVE in a c5 so a good all round ship by the sounds of it, no use in the c4 though as we run shield tengus on the sites, well i could i guess cap transfer! and get some fighters out.. least ill get some carrier experience then before chucking it at a c5! |

Not sure if your aware or not - can't jump capitals in or out of a C1-4 only C5 and C6 so if you make one in a C4 it will stay there til its destroyed.
For C4 sites you can still shove capital remote shield reps on an archon and rep the tengu just means they have to stay within 15km of you. |

Archon all the way. It beats nid in everything except pos repping OP. And I am sure you wont be repping pos's in WH since if someone wants to re'inf your pos they'd be there to finish it off.

Chimera is the almost most awesome capital there is, in a wh. Almost, as there still is the Phoenix. But then thats not a carrier. |

Niddy, in my opinion is a beaut... But I had a Chimera for the C6 pulsar we lived in, and then when we moved, that guy was sold and I bought an Archon, which is ideal. I own 2 Niddy's also, but don't use them, they are just spinners... ~Boredom Breeds Direction~ |

incorrect. if you only want to train 1 carrier, train archon.
chimera in a pulsar (obviously) i suppose. |

If you want to only train one carrier and want the one that you will have most use for in w-space, it's most def the Archon. But that's not what I said, was it?

In a pulsar, a niddy or chimera can be extremely effective. I've fought QUL enough to know that.
Anywhere else, archon is probably your best bet. |

Even in a pulsar where ofcourse you want a chimera you have to throw a fair bit of pimp at the chimera to match the capabilities of a T2 fit archon in normal space due to how tight it is on fitting :( however a decent fit and somewhat pimp chimera/nid/thanny in a pulsar is pretty powerful - with the ability to cap tank a bhaal or 2 or even more in extreme cases like Phoenix Gold's chimera in a C6 and locally tank in the region of 40+K dps. |

N.B.: Archon cannot rep a large control tower, as the Archon lacks a shield rep range bonus which all other carriers have.
Nid are very handy for repping POS as they can rep the tower shield and any defences, which are mostly armor. However, Nids are hard to fit, so they armor tank when repping shield and shield tank when repping armor.
Only the Archon and Chimera have resist bonuses.
Archon is by far the best carrier overall. |

You run armor doctrine and don't live in a pulsar because of the Archon.

If you towers got RF-ed it's because you didn't have enough archons to begin with ! (j/k)

Can you elaborate the shield repping and armor fit and the armor rep and the shield tank. |

Shield tanking modules use lots of CPU, and armor use a lot of powergrid. Traditionally ships have either strong CPU or PG, but the nid has ok amounts of both.
Therefore, you can fit a better shield tank if you use armor reps, or vice versa. |
