What's the stupidest thing you've ever done in EvE?
Today I just bought a Large Shield Extender II for 800 mil thinking it was 800k. I think the moment before I hit the buy button a little voice in my head was like "nooooooooooo!!!!" but it was too late.... |

Many broker accounts like ETrade have specific buyer protection automatically setup so that when you buy something you don't make a mistake.
It is amazing that this is one of the MAJOR things that CCP knows needs to be fixed and doesn't. They need to at least allow you to set your own threshold or limit when purchasing an item. So you don't end up ripping yourself off.
Especially with the text so small - the option to make it larger doesn't work because in some menus the text is so large that it cuts off the entire menu and does not branch off ( like your windows start button menu ). This is also a fail CCP needs to fix. |

I've never made a terrible mistake but I came close once. When I first started playing, I had saved up about 450m ISK and I went to Jita to buy a Caldari Cruiser skill book but I accidentally clicked on Caldari Carrier instead. Luckily the book was around 465m so I was just slightly short of cash, otherwise the sale would have gone through. |

If I tried to make a type of coffee that made all of you happy, and you rated it, the group score for it would be about 60 out of 100. Break into 3 or 4 coffee clusters, and made coffee just for each cluster, the scores would go from 60 to 78. Classic!
(Or perhaps my "getting this" means I've been here for far too long.) To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

When I was a noob, I bought a GTC. I had a friend who was further along than me (by maybe 10 months) who had gotten into the game. He had just lost a battleship that he had saved up for, so I used the GTC to get isk and gave him a chunk (yea I'm a good friend).
Flush with all of this isk, I figured i would upgrade my mining setup. I did a bit of mining in my first month until I realized it bored me to tears and my combat skills caught up.
Mind you, I was mining in a myrmidon. Not even a mining barge.
So I decided to get some mining laser upgrades. Saw these nice meta 4's "aoede mining laser upgrade" They were pricy at the time, at 60mil each. But I had all this isk...
until I found I could only buy one, because they were 600mil each!

First of all: a mistake is becoming a real mistake when you do it twice. When you do it again and again it's a stupid mistake.
In EVE every mistake will help you to learn and adapt. With nearly 100m SP I am still learning and adapting. The biggest mistake you can do in this game to see yourself as a master eg. in PvP because you are doing it now for years. So you can't be wrong. But then you agree to 1v1 Frig duel, you will learn that there's always a bigger ***, worst of all you will learn that there's always a bigger ass trying to ransom your pod because you thought it's an honored 1v1. You told yourself last time never ever pay a ransom again but to save your low-slave set you'll do it because your brain still made the decision and finally you get podded into deep null-sec because you had forgotten to switch station. Will it ever happen again? Might be if I am again too confident.
And exactly those painful moments are one reason why I can't stop playing the game. Because the challange is: to do better next time. |
