How does a Cargo Scanner work? Not in relation to the game mechanics but in general. How would a Cargo Scanner be capable of scanning a ship and knowing what's in it's hold?
I tried Googling it with no luck, and have searched the forums.
The reason I ask is my Dad damends a scientific ish reason as to how they work since this is a space game, and he won't drop the subject. Lol. |

Fiction:
Due to law enforcement of CONCORD and local police forces, every piece of cargo must be declared. As it is future, this happens electronically and encoded. A ship scanner however just decodes everything and will show you exactly what's in a ship's cargohold when you scan it. And because we are all very nice persons in EVE Online, we never EVER don't declare a piece of cargo. And we always are honest when doing so. |

Actually...
The cargo scanner is a marvel of (science fiction) technology. It uses a highly concentrated (science fiction) beam to penetrate the hull of a ship. Once through, the (science fiction) beam searches for trace amounts of (science fiction) particles. The concentration of these (science fiction) particles is measured and calculated uses a very powerful (science fiction) computer. As the measurements of (science fiction) particles are processed and tabulated, the cargo scanner is able to render a picture of the actual contents inside a ship's hold.

We always declare cargo because CONCORD has Jovian cargo scanners, described below:

So, either don't declare and get guaranteed popped by space officers of the peace, or declare at risk of anyone with a scanner knowing what's inside. Convenient for station managers and pirates everywhere. |

If I tried to make a type of coffee that made all of you happy, and you rated it, the group score for it would be about 60 out of 100. Break into 3 or 4 coffee clusters, and made coffee just for each cluster, the scores would go from 60 to 78. The difference between coffee at 60 and coffee at 78 is a difference between coffee that makes you wince or makes you happy. |
