Unlike CCP they'll be able to make a full on sci-fi sim with spaceships because they don't have a narrowminded playerbase that rages whenever they do something different.
If EVE's players don't let it expand it'll stay a niche game, whereas Star Citizen will win. |

Back when I was a kid, if you wanted to raise capital for a business you sold shares on Wall Street. Apparently things like "accountability" fell out of favor, though, so now everyone just begs on Kickstarter for money. Which is quite a scam generator, to be sure. How many projects per day on that site get to a quarter million dollars or more and then just abruptly get cancelled? A lot of off-shore banks must be happy, though.

I have actually been following this one for awhile now. The concept and idea is amazing. I've had this same idea for a space universe for about 5 years now. I don't have the time or the skills to put it together. Not to mention a way to actually get the money. I will most likely play eve for the next couple of years until Star Citizen comes out. Stick around. I'm full of bad ideas. ~Isaac Clarke |

Growing up with the Wing Commander series and Privateer, I always had the utmost respect for Mr. Roberts, but I think he lacks vision... sure, the concept sounds nice, but I highly doubt it will be anything more then then a WC/Privateer/Freelancer hybrid.
EVE is a almost completly palyer driven game... economics, politics, etc. and I don't think Robert's can (or does want to) pull something like that off... "Ginger forum goddess, space gypsy and stone nibbler extraordinaire!"

If you watch the hour long video from the GDC, you'll see that's exactly what he wants to pull off. Even travel routes will be named by the player who discovers and maps them.
The only thing he's leaving behind are the enormous alliances and fleet battles, because he, wisely, sees they do more harm than good to a game. "It's no use crying over spilt milk, because all the forces of the universe were bent on spilling it." ~William Maugham |

StarCitizen is very promised game, meny features are awesome, like arcade style, cocpits, big opened hangars, halls - ships, interactive things etc. EvE with these things would be awesome, but EvE got a bit difirent style, and is designed to offer specific view on space simulator.
SpaceCitizen is more arcade and interactive, while EvE is more strategy, In SpaceCitizen you control your ships, you feel like real pilot, in EvE you are more ship commander who sent comands to it... Somtime i dont feel like pilot in EvE i feels more than ship even this sound stupid .... or somone who sent command to it how to fly but with restricted freedom like fly to axis y or x... |

That the thing... Roberts does simulations... atleast he used to.
For me, one of the great things about EVE is that every ship is esentially useable, even giant caps... but that only works because it is NO simulation... so, I dunno. We'll see... "Ginger forum goddess, space gypsy and stone nibbler extraordinaire!"

All those promises and goals stated on that website for Star Citizen reminded me how I felt 11 years ago when I first found out about EVE.
Things change, reality bites and developers try the limits only to be bounced back hard on their backsides.
I won't deny that I'm tempted to fund that game, I most likely will do so in fact. But at the same time I'm very, very well aware of the fact that the promised product will not be the product that'll be delivered (if it even is delivered at all).
EVE hasn't achieved all the goals they promised, we still haven't seen stuff that was supposed to be in at launch day.
Where am I going with this? Basically, just don't get your hopes up too much. |

The BEST thing about Star Citizen is the ability to mod the game.
You can make your own ships! It will come with a construction set. You can submit your ship design, and the ship will appear at different vendors in the game. You get a cut whenever someone buys a ship.
So not an industry/market system like Eve, but better in some ways, as you can create/craft stuff. The desire to see your creations in-game will be like coke.

I've looked at this again, and discounting the Kickstarter and Crowd Sourcing, I'd have to say it looks like it was fairly well done. I'll probably pay attention to it a little more in the future as I do like the Space Sim with First Person Flight mode and always have. The Physics look nice, and graphics are actually pretty good.
Overall, compared to another one I looked at, this looks to have some time invested in it already, and the concept behind the game is relatively good.
The fact that it is Online only makes it better; where, were it offline single player, I wouldn't have considered it particularly seriously. Offline games are just too limited in scope in my experience. There is only so much you can build assets and accrue wealth before you decide it is utterly pointless.
Having the opportunity to fly First person in formation with other players would actually be an interesting experience. Apparently, he's already moved to support Oculus too, which gives VR as one means of play expected. Not that I'm likely to spring for it, but definitely innovative and cool.
Offering a final release of the game with a pledge, and Alpha and Beta Access doesn't hurt either. Maybe not for all, but there are a considerable number of options there.
So, with 6 or so days left, I'll consider pledging a bit and maybe getting in on Alpha and Beta to try it out if I can. Beats waiting till 2014. Would be nice if I had other than a keyboard and mouse for it though. Not awful to play that way, but an alternative would be cool.
P.S. I don't think it'll be an EVE killer by any means. zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |

it's about to hit 3.5 million and i wouldn't be surprised if the 4 million mark was hit by the end of the pledge, so we'll get more ships, 50 systems to explore, a deeper storyline, 45 missions in the ship player campaign and modding tools to create our own content.
The game is getting quite a bit larger in scope with the extra money being generated....Potentially twice as much as chris roberts asked for wich is pretty impressive. |

Actually, if they reach the 4 million target, players will be able to board ships in space and even fight with nothing but a space suit, portable jet pack and a hand gun if their ship was destroyed in a fight and the pilot managed to eject in time, wich sounds very cool to be honest.
The system names i don't mind too much as i'm sure they will be evaluated before then become official anyhow. |

Until you are but a digital goo on somebodies windscreen at any rate.
..m experience with being a Spacesuit in combat, is either getting vaporized, or hit by a ship. Actually, I usually am the one who runs them down when I see them bail. ..NPC pirates of course, in X3R zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |

Of course, there's always that possibility....
They've crossed the 3.75 million mark, so only 250k left for the 4 million mark and 3 days to go to the pledge, but an additional ship has been added and oh my it sounds dangerous.....A strategic bomber and check out the specs on this thing:
Max crew capacity: 6 people. Weight 89 tons. Trusters: 13 in total. cargo capacity for bombs( 30 tons)
Armament:
12 missile launchers with each launcher carrying 8 missles and they can be several types, including capital ship missiles. 5 turrets covering the top, bottom, rear, starboard and port sides.
If they reach the 4 milion mark, the first ship of the corvette class will be released, and should be meaner still than the above.

I just signed up today, so to speak, and figure I'll see what happens. Even if I only play Alpha for a month, or Beta for the same and never try the finished product, I'll probably enjoy that much if what I've seen of current development is any indication.
I always enjoyed space fighter sims. Darkstar One was completely awesome the first time through. Not much fun after that, which is part of the problem with First person storyline based games. Sure, they can alter some details and actions can change progression ever so slightly, but ultimately it's just trying a different scenario by deliberately straying the course from what you did the last time around.
Obviously this has more than just a storyline, but it's hard to say how much more. All appearances indicate that an effort is being made to build a player driven environment, but then I have to consider the perks of pledging: Multiple Accounts, Fancy ships, Higher DPS guns, etc..
Unfortunately, we all know where that leads. Gold ammo anyone? I'm afraid they're already handing out buffed toys right from the start, so it's not likely to engender much long term appreciation for me.
Regardless of that, hopefully it'll be a bit of fun testing it out.
That ship seems potentially overpowered, but then I haven't looked at the Specs on any of them, so I really have no idea.

It follows the overpowered nature of every ship in the game to be honest, since the carrier we saw in the official video has no less than 128 guns on it, plus the ships it can launch.....Large guns for other capital ships, medium and small guns for smaller and faster moving ships, and even point to point turrets to shoot down incoming missiles, so it's armed to the teeth basically. |

That's the idea i get, but the strategic bomber i mentioned has some drawback as it mostly operates from the surface of a planet since it's too large for anything but the very largest carriers to handle from their launch bay.
So i don't see why not if you have either friends on that particular planet or the ship is in one of those really large carriers, and your friends are also onboard that ship....Field trip for 6 and some are manning the guns. |

Woot, they've passed the 4 million mark so that unlocks modding tools and more ships and missions for squadron 42, and there will be 50 systems to explore in the finished game, but with just 2 1/2 days left, i don't think they'll get to 4.5 million, wich unlocks the first of the destroyer class, a new alien race and a vanduul base.
There will also be support for triple displays, flight chairs(?) and all the stuff still locked on kickstarter gets unlocked at 4.5 million.....Can they get over 450 000$ in 2 1/2 days is where i seriously have doubts?
I signed up for 250$, so i did my part and then some....Bring on the alpha and beta and lets see just how good it is... |

Now they're teasing big time.....Seems that the bengal class carrier seen in the video will be able to be owned by players right from the start when the game is launched, but only if the pledge total hits 5.5 million by monday 1 PM.
It's the total pledges amount is climbing fast at about 20 000$ an hour, but making 1.2 million in 40 hours is nuts no matter how hard they try, but 5 million seems possible if the current pace maintains and in aany case, they're already established the new record for publicly funded projects.
No other project has hit 4.3+ million in pledges. |
