In this devblog LeKjart says:
Quote: Now the question arises what to do with any stuff that players might have left around those spots. We think that for most of the native F11 bookmarks, there won't be much, because they are too far away for people to have warped all the way there. On the other hand many have used these F11 bookmarks to warp to closer safe spots (warping as far as the capacitor permits) and bookmarked those spots. These might be anywhere from 100 AUs to 1000 AUs distance from the sun. For these bookmarks, we have plans to move them within solar system boundaries along with any stuff around them. This would mean that the bookmark will still work and bring you to your stuff, but the spot as a whole will be vulnerable for scanning, though it wouldn't be casually found.
Why is this not the case?

They made the observatory probes to scan those spots instead. ______________

so those probes that need astrometrics lvl5 actually do something?
Can anyone verify this?

They don't work last i chcked.
Furthermore, anything not on the same plane (I think thats what its called) as you won't be picked up by a probe either. Move 1 aU down / upwards and nothing gonna find you.

..and those probes dont work. gg ccp
-added for positivity()- Except the 3 au ones, they are useful with a bit of old fashioned safebusting thrown in, which i dont mind at all -

There's also this thing that Scan Probes show up on the scanner. All someone has to do is run a maxrange scan every 2 minutes and warp to a new safespot if they spot probes. You're better off scanning for people the old fashioned way right now.

Edited by: Golgrath on 28/03/2005 11:51:10 Is the scan probe usage process described somewhere? Wasn't in the user guide.
I've been testing the probes on TQ and SISI now for few days and just can't get it if all the target needs to lie within all the 3 probes scanning radius or not. I keep getting conflicting results.
What would be the process of busting one of the F11 safespots then? Use the observator probe 3 times, each time dropping a 192AU probe. Then going down to 48AU->12AU->3AU probes. The trouble is that you cant see the probes in the system scanner because youre so out of the system boundaries and so can't place the probes in any meaningful manner. And there isn't any other objects to warp to other than back to the solar system.
So the observator probe really isnt of any use, other than knowing that there's ships out of system boundaries.
