Seem like its down at the moment.
1. What hosting company host it? 2. How much it cost per month? 3. Is it shared/virtual/dedicated server? 4. About how much bandwidth it takes per month?

Its been switched off so it doesnt kill EVE anymore than it already is.. As It interfaces into the XML feeds.

Reading xml feeds will not crash eve :s
Its hosted in germany on a dedicated server, it gets crippled by too many sql calls and generally too much traffic during unscheduled downtimes. Im on holiday but would hazard a guess the server either needs a reboot or its used up its bandwidth for this month due to the extraordinary traffic.
tbh if i were in charge, I would remove server watcher and ask CCP to put a web based server status on here. It might save eve-i from so many dt's.

No it doesn't.

There are a few other third party sources you can get the server status from. IRC, and system tray apps. Which can be found at EVE-I.

Edited by: rowbin hod on 28/03/2005 14:47:16 TBH, i can't see how the server monitor would affect the server status graph thingy. The most sensible way to do it in my opinion would be to use rrdtool to update the info every minute or so and draw a new graph every minute. That way, the only load on the server to do with the status monitor would be serving the picture every minute, which would be no more taxing on the server than serving any other picture.
Of course, not everyone reading this is a geek, so most people probably haven't got a clue what i'm on about so i'm going to stop.
edit: although DD could just be referring to the fact that everyone uses eve-i as a resource when eve-online is down, and so does a lot of traffic purely because of that. |

i am, the main reason people flock to eve-i during unsceheduled dt's is to check the server status to make sure its not just them for eg or looking for info. Obviously it cannot handle that sort of load, so by having a server status based here it should reduce that load in future. Its sheer volume of traffic that kills the site.
