Different from any other MMO? No, not really. Grind virtually or non-virtually, it's still a grind.

it is possible to make a MMORPG without any need for grind
but would people want to play it for more than a month?
Is gate camping for loot considered a grind too?

Life is a grind. Think about it... We study at school to get a good job to earn a living so we can retire and then die. ----------------------------------------------- CANADIAN |

Unless you realise just that, and then notice that it's far more cofortable to do nothing and not have a cd-player than work like maniac to have a cd-player.
Do your own hammoc, and attach it to palms..

I guess for most people it is that way. If your job involves standing in assembly line, or mopping the floors.
In life you can do lots of interesting things. I don't think that studying in school is a grind, as you are learning about new things, so it's not a grind cause it's not the same dumb thing over and over again.
What it boils down to is how much thinking you have to do in your daily activities. Something that keeps challanging you and allows you to be creative is not a grind. Something like mining ore in EVE, gate camping, belt NPC chaining is a grind because it requires almost no thinking. There's no new information that needs to be processed no new strategies to test (aside from setting up ships).
People do grind stuff cause it allows them to do more enjoyable things in the future, either thru having more money or skill. But it's possible to have things in a way that you do fun mentally challanging non-repeatative activities and gain money or skill at same time.

I don't think that's as bad as becoming a volunteer worker, doing REAL work for no money, that's like volunteering to be a part time slave.
altho, if work is really fun, it's all good. Some of the bug hunters I talked to don't give me that impression tho, they seem irritated and grim, often lacking sense of humor.. so to me it looks like they are some kind of masochists

If you think the BugHunter guys are masochists, you should see how Wrangler keeps us all in check.
