His thread gave me a idea, I like the idea of a flak weapon. But to make it more balanced here are sone ajustments that might make it a interesting defence choice, while keeping the balance.
small, medium, and large Flak Cannons, would simply fire 10 rounds back to back with out a delay. they would act on the idea of motion prediction. It would mean the faster you ship the less damage you would take if any. the 10 round shot would place its target at you current location and have splash damage of 1500m the further out you are from the center the lower the damage. now to keep it balanced it would start as a low end damage weapon, and since it has a 10 shot volley, reload time would be lengthend, kinda like wwII assault machineguns, barrel change time. say 30-45 secs. I am just laying this as a basic would like to hear thoughts and maybe ways this could work better? Just looking to widen the variety of weapons in EVE. The things we do in life echo in eternity. What does "Place it's target at your current location" mean? If it means that it shoots exactly where you are then it would be a smartbomb....

Agreed. But as long as those missile fools won't see the light we might as well get some guns that own frigates...

I reckon flak cannons are a major addition to a battleships arsenal, no matter how theyre implemented, and would require some kind of balancing, so v got an idea, dunno how it could be implemented.
Frigates/assualt frigs/interceptors can target and destroy specific modules on battleships.
No one is gonna risk flying an assualt frig near a flak firing battleship, unless... "Its absolutley VITAL you disable that tachyon, son, the future of the fleet depends on you..."

I think it would be better if the so-called "Flak Cannons" worked as follows:
1. The cannon is activated or spots a target. 2. It automatically adjusts its angle to hit the target at its "stock speed", meaning the ship's unmodified max speed. 3. The cannon fires a number of rounds in rapid succession, takes an amount of time to reload, and continues. 4. If the target goes out of range, or a different target becomes closer, it selects the next target and repeats the steps.
If the ship it targets has an MWD or an AB, the flak will probably miss and the ship will not take much damage at all. However, if it not equipped with any of these, it will probably sustain heavy damage and be forced to retreat.
I don't know how it would handle ships with cargo expanders, since, logically, a slower ship would be easier to hit. Perhaps my method is not the best :P But, of course, this is just a suggestion.

think of it like a shotgun aim in a direction and shoot, but if your target is quick enough it can evade the fireing radius. so it really wouldnt be a anti-frig weapon just a new weapon type for fleet and large ship combat. the flak cannons would be a artillery type "scatter bomb" The things we do in life echo in eternity.
