1.) Arty vs Beams
2.) Mach vs Nightmare
Currently I do incursions where I make all my isk, have 1.5 bil isk with no idea of what i should spend it on.
Would love to get into PvP and don't really know what the consensus is on either weaponry or ships. Need 7 days to get into Nightmare and 14 for Mach, however to train up for either T2 beams or T2 arty will take the same amount of time (about 72 days). Trying to figure out what would be best for me to commit to since it's a large amount of time.
If im gonna spend over a couple months training to use a particular weapon, I wanna make sure it's worth it! |

Autocannon setups are more versatile than pulse laser setups and generally preferred since most minnie ships are relatively fast - makes them viable for solo work. |

arty is more useful than beams, unless youre fitting a nightmare in which case tachyons are a good choice. also, arty on a nightmare is just silly. |

Don't do PVP until you have that Mach. A beam Mach is great for general PVP.

It's the logical upgrade from the Tach Rokh. |

With only 1.5b you can't afford to pvp with either ship if we are being honest. You can afford a single hull and a fit. Your isk but once its dead...and I guarantee you will die in it...your back at square one. If you really want to get into PVP, then start where everyone starts, with cheap t1 frigs/cruisers. You'll be able to afford a small fleet of ships that you can welp with impunity as you learn to fight other players. With the new t1 cruisers coming soon, I think you have just enough time to get a solid t2 fit for frigs and cruisers of a couple races. Your real goal should be finding a corp who will help you out in fitting and learning the overall meta of pvp. Forget pirate faction battleships as a starting point. Hell take your isk join RVB , jump into all the noobfleets you can and fight all day for a month or two learning the basics. About the time your reliably winning more than your losing in 1v1's etc you'll know what you want to fly and won't be on the forums asking for advice.

The mach is much more versatile than the nightmare
Projectiles are much better in PvP due to no cap and selectable damage
If we are only talking incursions, its a wash |

One does not "get into pvp" by just buying a mach or nightmare and heading out to low .... Your method is quite similar to "learning to be a better lover" by dressing up as justin bieber and getting a gangrape in a prison.
There are easier ways to make nice killmails for others ... my favourite would be plex loaded shuttles.

Wow.. thanks for the responses but seems like there was some confusion!!!
Didn't mean that I would use either the nightmare or mach for PvP.... i am going to pick one to train up to use for Incursions!
However, before I pick one to train up into.. I wanted to know what weapon class would be overall better for PvP: arty or tachyons. That way, while i could use either ship for incursions to make my isk, the weapons i had to train to use either ship effectively would be able to carry over into my PvP activities.
The time to train up arty or tachyons is a good amount.... that's why I wanted to know what is better for PvP. So while I could use it for incursions, i could also use it for PvP. I currently use an RNI for incursions and missiles aren't the best PvP choise lol! |

Basically, train projectiles. They're just straight up more versatile overall. Training up to Large T2 Arties will leave you very close to getting Large T2 Autocannons (and medium/small in the process) which together with Minmatar spaceship command (which you will need for your Mach) will give you wide array of pvp capable ships.
But as said above, don't start PvPing in a battleship, start with t1 frigs or cruisers. |

"get into PvP" and using mach/nightmare as your first fit is the worst idea.
start at frigates/destroyers and then move your way up the chain...
it will be cheaper, better for learning, and less devastating when you lose something |
