Hi all, I know, it's a noobish question, but I AM a noob (5 weeks in game)...
My understanding so far is: if I want to hunt NPCs, I can do three things: 1) do a mission from an agent 2) go to 0.9 to 0.5 and check the asteroid belts for pirates 3) scan for anomalies
As we are all noobs, we don't do any PVP and are afraid of 0.0... so my question is: we want more NPC fights, but don't find what we are looking for:
1) missions from agents are easily done by everoyne in "single play" (we build our standing but that's sloooow) 2) asteroid priates are hard to find and easy to kill in high sec 3) it takes me 5-10 minutes sometinmes to hunt down an anomaly... and then the fight doesn't take longer...
So can we, as noobs, do more NPC fights or do we need to have higher skills to do this? (two of us fly Hurricanes, the rest something lower and all have low skills... again: five weeks in game ;)).
Any help is highly appreciated, thank you Smo |

Well, if you come from a game like say WoW, indeed as new player you won't find the same group content like instanced dungeons etc... But you can create your own group content : for example there are anomalies which are too hard for one person, or too hard to solo at your level... you can also jump in cheap ships and go ratting in low sec... there are many possibilities, but there is not especially a "quest giver" to get them. It's a sandbox, you create your own quest |

Regarding missions: usually you get access to level 4 agent before you are really able to run those missions so maybe one or few of you could grind into level 4 and you would do them in fleet. Well, some L4s can be pretty drastic without proper skills and ships but maybe that would make enough challenge for your team and you could have it all: fun, teamwork, challenge, ISK.
Just saying, don't wait until somebody will "let" you play the way you want.
Belt rats are not worth it outside null, in low BS pays 500k max and they are very rare. In null I think 500k was lowest BS bounty, highest I ever got was 1.4 mil (I think it was for whatever is higher than angel saint). I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |

Thanks for the answers, but I am not refering to WOW or anything else (never playd WOW at all ;)).
It's just that we were bored yesterday and didn't know where to find a challenge except in 0.0 :). And yes, I assume even Missions level 3 would be challanging for us, but currently we can't do them... we will focus on this then.

Go to a 0.5 security system and open your scanner. Push scan (analyse) without launching probes. The results you get (if any) are called anomalies. These are pirate spawns. You can warp straight into them and kill pirates. The lower the security status of the system you are in, the tougher the pirates will be. It has been a long time since I did any of these, make sure you google the sites before you run them.

The only "real" PvE-content for groups in highsec = Incursions
However, you need atleast 10 ppl, and atleast 2 of them should fly a logistic-ship if you want to have decent income from it. |

If it is only a question of mission difficulty, that varies wildly. A good indicator for the individual difficulty is the time limit, the lower the easier.
However, no matter how difficult and no matter how few skillpoints you have, fielding two hurricanes (plus additional DPS - cruisers?) should make any L 3 mission doable...... Forum-unbanned since 2011.10.20. |

Easy way - don't do probe scanning to find signatures, instead use the system scanner (same window as the dscan) and press it, wait for 10s for the scan to complete in a system, then warp to any anomalies found. All of these will be combat sites in and will have rats (unless somone briefly just got there before you and you find only wrecks.).
Find nothing? Move onto another system, rinse and repeat. |

If you are flying a battlecruiser, shouldn't you be easily able to solo a level 3 mission, regardless of your skills? |

get one of the team to train social to lvl3 and diplomacy to lvl3, get said person to solo grind lvl3's, or do it together and get fleet members to drop out of fleet before you hand the mission back.. They will soon be doing level 4's and then you can all join in... Also it helps if you can work from a station that has multiple agents of the same level. |

Not necessarily, certainly not if you've neglected your tanking skills, and absolutely not if you don't know your ship's strengths and weaknesses. But once you can properly tank it, fly it, and fight it, a good battlecruiser will be plenty for Level 3's. |

I know this is a bit late, however after reading this.
It's you and your mates and you want to have a challenge. Well done, Eve will give that to you.
Someone said its a sandbox, this is true. Another way of saying that is, do your own thing.
Eve rule #1 don't fly anything you can't afford to lose.... <---- we ignore this rule a lot. Though we shouldn't
Eve rule #2 without risk without reward
Do not google the anom sites with your mates, wheres the challenge..... no prob scan ... warp you and mates and go for it, whatever happens, happens.
you should not grind, nor should you and your mates be forced to skill anything. Eve is game to have fun in. Blow up some ships, get blown up and have a good laugh while doing so.
Eve is not going anywhere for a long time. So kick back, relax and ponder how you can rule the universe!
Welcome to Eve Online, enjoy the game. |

Congrats,
you've realized something many people still miss- high security space has no challenging content, because it is the starter area, full of protective measures, predictable entry-level NPCs to keep players safe and entertained for their first few weeks. Incursions are an exception to this, they mimic the most demanding PVE, wormhole sleepers.
EVE happens outside of hisec, and is fundamentally and thoroughly a game about player-to-player interaction. PVE is a sideline, people do it to make isk, and it creates opportunities for PVP, but you'll miss most of this game if you focus on the NPC side of things.

I'll throw a few things out there for you to try.
Cosmos - Some very very old content in empire but may give you a bit of a challenge, lots of different things to run around and hunt down. Can pick up a lot of unique items (most are useless) will give some isk but not as much as grinding missions most importantly it will give you lots and lots of standing with the faction. Not too risky but some challenge in some places. minmatar cosmos guide.
Epic Arcs - will need some more standing for the faction ones of these (cosmos or fw standing might help) you should be able to run the SOE one now though. Mostly in empire roughly the difficulty of a lvl 4 but a fair bit more traveling which should be ok for groups of lighter ships.
FW - Good for beginners just grab a bunch of rifters/thrashers and go roaming to try and capture a few plex. Do not bring your hurricanes out to low sec. You will die a few times but it's a good way to make friends/potential allies and get some pvp experience while also earning some decent faction standing. You'll also need to start picking up on a lot of other important eve skills such as knowing which systems to avoid, how to fit better, scouting, avoiding pirates in empire.
Wormholes/exploration - If any of you are trying out probing for some of the sites in empire (sort of the more advanced version of anomalies) you'll probably pick up a fair few of these. Their risky and fairly hard. You will want to read a few guides on things like weight limit before trying them.
lvl 5's - Out of your reach at the moment but if you have a bunch of pilots and are interested in challenging pve this may be what you are looking for. These may change somewhat in the upcoming patch due to AI changes so be careful until someone else has tried that out a bit more before jumping in. |

Cosmo's missions are really a pain in the behind and cost you more to complete than you will get anywhere near making. The problem here is the missions send you to beacon which are always there and players run around farming these so when you do go to the site, the items have already been collected by someone else, yes they re-spawn, but I have spent almost an entire day trying to get in before the farmers, so you end up having to buy them of contracts for exorbitant fees. So only do them if you have isk and need the standings, the fun aspect just isn't there. The same for data center missions, just buy the tags to get standings.. they are NOT fun to do.
Epic arcs are good fun, and there are 2 in LS that are worth doing, although I did cheat a bit and bought Substancia's package for the book marks to help with gate camps. They easily doable in an assault frig.. just fit a cloak. |

Hey everyone, thank you very much for the Input. We did our first incursion and are going to do some more, at least it Looks like a real challange. The income seems to be pretty low, but we do it for the fun, not for generating ISK.
You gave us some things to check and try out... still we try to avoid low sec/0.0, because it seems you have to be in a big alliance at least, before you can go there. And we just want to stick together for now...
... simply because we ignore Rule #1 constantly, lol :) Wir (alle 25+ Jahre alt) suchen Mitspieler, m+¦glichst (aber nicht nur) mit Headset (Teamspeak 3). Corp-Mitgliedschaft ist NICHT notwendig! Going to low sec (0.1-0.4) certainly doesn't require being in an alliance, and the rats are a lot more juicy and dangerous there. Yes there is a danger you will get jumped by a (player) pirate, but this adds to the fun! If you're all 3 in BC's, you're less likely to be attacked - they tend to prefer lone targets. You can keep an eye on local to check for approaching trouble (check sec status of any new arrivals).
Getting into low sec can sometimes be a bit risky, use the map to check ship kills in the last hour, send in a cheap frigate as a scout first, etc.

Yeah, why not? :) If they don't fail like the last BC - group I had.. |
